Why are you guys only targeting the walls? Split fire between the walls and the Artillery is one thing but the walls arn't what's killing most of our troops. It's not like we're on a time limit, we can fort up and just pound the city and the inter walls for a few turns after we knock out the Artillery fire and force them to come to us.

Or we just lay waste to the inner city/center when were done with the artillery. Which means them forting up will mean after we bomb them to hell and back. Repeatedly. For like two days.

Their kinda checkmated when you think about it and will remain so unless we act too rashly or they bring some super weapon out (Which I doubt they have something like that).

Because we want to finish this siege quickly? The Imperial trust army isn't doing great and there's still the unknown structure to siege after this. Pushing through to the inner city lets us silence the artillery as well, and hopefully lets us finish this city off and move on to other targets.

But rashly losing men by attacking full force is not the way to go either. We have lost nearly half of our army, taking some time to reduce the DE and lower our casualties is more useful than rushing this and bringing millions fewer men to the next fight.

Actually, @Elder Haman - you may want to switch to targeting the artillery. Since we're going to take our time to sieze the outer city now, especially with your plan, we should reduce the damage over time they are able to do to us first.

My hope is to regain momentum, break down the inner city walls today and tonight, and then fire the Deathstrikes in the morning and have the Avernite Troops break through the inner walls.

What he said. I rather spend two turns softing up then finish them in one than spend four turns trying to force a breach as we get pounded by their artillery. Split fire if you want just don't ignore the Artillery of emperor's sake!

Up until recently, most of this war had us marching through ambushes and artillery fire. Now, however, we are in a fortified position, the enemy is within range of our artillery, we've almost wiped out their artillery... This puts the Dark Eldar right where we want them!

SO WHY DO PEOPLE THINK CHARGING IS A GOOD IDEA? It puts us right back into the same scenarios where we lost so many troops!

I was hoping to save a savlo or two for the unidentified structure. But hey let's see how democracy goes.

We've been advancing slowly and cautiously this entire campaign. It's why we've suffered comparatively light losses to harassment, but heavy losses to their artillery. I'm hoping that now that we've killed a significant portion of their army we can push through and use our numerical superiority to win a quick fight, rather than a drawn out slug fest where we consistently lose more men than them. We have numbers on our side, but we're losing that advantage quickly and if we keep delaying, we could find ourselves outnumbered before too long at the rate things are progressing.

[X] Attack cautiously- You could have your forces slowly and carefully advance, reducing the amount of enemy territory that they can take but reducing both your total casualties and the kill to loss ratio of your troops.
[X] Begin to fortify six hours before dark- This will reduce the amount of territory that you take by a massive amount but will allow your forces to erect good fortifications at their positions, clear killing fields and search for secret passages before dark making it near impossible for the Dark Eldar night forces.
[X] Attempt to gain control of the walls first before slowing moving inwards- This option will involve taking control of the outer walls of the city fist, which will allow you to either cut of or reduce the chance of forces in the city escaping or being reinforced but leave your forces spread out. This should not be selected if you are being aggressive as it will leave your forces vulnerable to counter attack.
[X] Have your Midgardians lead the attack- This will allow your more expendable troops to take the brunt of the fighting saving your elites for later use. - This option would be best if you are not in a hurry and are avoiding the inner walls.

[X] Concentrate fire on one target.- This will allow your artillery to have a major impact on the selected target at the expense of have no effect on the other targets.
[X] Target the artillery- This will reduce the amount of damage that the Dark Eldar artillery can do over time but will cause less damage then some of the other targets due to the fact that the artillery is most likely well fortified against return fire. This option would be best if you are planning to take your time and turn the fight into an extended siege.

I'll be frank, this would be a valad option if we had task force hammer or one of the Psyker choirs to just bull right over all oputishon but right now i just don't think we have weaken them enough to force the issue. After a few turns just pounding away? Sure. Just not at this time.

Great, now we have lost momentum, and have to waste time fighting in the outer city until our artillery has made a dent in the inner city walls.
We never had any momentum to begin with. We were pushing through and suffering greatly all the while due to their harassment and artillery. Due to our fortifications, we blunted the former so it now results in a 1:1 kill ratio and our artillery has taken out half of the latter. Charging against a DE force a third our size will only open up our forces to be taken out by their harassment and artillery with impunity once more.

We actually lost a lot of men to harassment quite a few times. The turn before last we actually lost more men to harassment than enemy artillery. Our fortifications will prevent us from losing such a large amount of men to harassment again, but if we go for a quick victory we'll be hit by their artillery and harassment with no fortifications to protect them.
It won't be a drawn out slug fest where we lose more men than them - it'll be a quick battle where we lose a shit-ton more men than them.

get rid of the artillery completely and we remove that ability to harm us in our fortifications. Then all that they have that can harm us effectively is harassments and night attacks.

Two points to think about:
  1. 'Expand your currant beachheads' gives us more area than 'Attempt to gain control of the walls first' and we were told that we need two times ('This leaves your men rather crowded and you will have to at least double, preferably triple, the area you are holding if you want to avoid suffering problems due to overcrowding.') as much area to contain our troops as we currently have.
  2. After the DE general called off the attacks on our fortified positions last night he will either not attack at all or shift his men around to hit us with his first line troops.
I want you to think about that. If we advance cautiously and stop for six hours to fortify and try to take the walls we will get penalities for overcrowding canceling out whatever bonus the fortification will bring.

durin can we have a update on the other fronts? I would like to know how well the other generals think we're doing in particulate.

I will provide an update after the next update but currently the Imperial Trust Guard approaching a fortress and the Timeless Army has just broken though the defenses of anther due to some work by task force anvil

Do Dark Eldar know what anvils are? This isn't relevant at all, it's just something that popped into my head.
