1. If they could survive up there they would be ready for anything but to be honest that would be a challenge for Space Marines, let alone humans. Also the Penguins are better, more powerful psykers then most of your psykers, there would be a lot of questions over who was the familiar in that relationship, the penguin may just be using the human for its opposable thumbs

Seeing as they could just use telekinesis in lieu of thumbs, I think it would be more to keep an amusing pet around - the penguin can brag to the other wildlife about how it has tamed one of those oh so dangerous humans the other species are talking about.

Honestly? So long as they attack whatever we need a bunch of epsilon-level penguins and their human pet to kill I wouldn't care if they are the sub or the dom of the relationship. :p If they are fully sapient or even just semi-sentient to the level of the Fenrisian Wolves allying with them against the giant bears would be worth it for numerous psykers on the front lines.:D I also wanted to see if we could give one of the other three continents over Quartoks to see how well they can do on their own and gain their loyalty when they inevitably get in over their heads and need us to save them from the local monsters.

This makes me want to send an expedition to the poles in an attempt to forge an alliance with the penguins.

humans are considered dangerous on Avernus, not one of the great powers like the Penguin Empires or the spoiler but still more dangerous then most
I'm starting to think we need to do some more exploring on Avernus. We've been focused outwards for so long we lost sight of how much we don't know of our own planet. Then there's the ring from the DAoT space battle we never explored. The AdMech need to get busy.

The AdMech need to get busy.

They've been busy. Look at what they've been doing; even leaving aside the constant reconstruction and fortification of the cities themselves, the tending to the various war machines from the humble lasgun to God Machines on war footing and (oh by the way) recovering multiple Standard Template Constructs just the industrial expansion the planet has undergone is nontrivial. I would not be shocked in the least if murder servators are considered necessary equipment for the cogboys doing something as simple as inspecting production lines.

That they've been as diligent, productive and on the ball as they were is a minor miracle so far.

We've been exploring pretty much every turn, unless you don't count working on the Well as exploring. Avernus is a big planet with a lot of secrets, so it's not surprising we don't know everything yet. Considering we've barely been there seventy years, what we have accomplished is nothing short of incredible.

@durin: Are there any signs or records of Ancient Helheimers colonizing any other areas on the planet other than the area the Avernites are living in? By this I mean are there chances of discovering other ancient ruins on the planet?

yes but only as research outposts, all of their cities were on the colonized sections of Avernus

Please don't disparage our Mechanicus. These guys are quite likely the best techpriests left in the galaxy and they work their servos off for us.
I'm just wanting to cut a number of the none exploration stuff and try to train up more Magos Explorators and Magos Biologis to help our main guys speed it up. I think we're missing some very big pieces of the puzzle that we are going to need sooner rather than latter.

as a note a lot of the aspects of Avernus are best discovered by Psykers rather then the Mechanicus
Can we set Psykers out as explorer groups with some Mechanicus help and Army guards? Just tell them here's a bunch of people, you got a year or seven to wonder around and find stuff? Honestly I see the biggest problem being that the Krakens make all water born craft instant death so they would have to be supported by space assets.
