They were focusing on Light Cruisers instead of the big battlewagons... Huh. Either they were more interested in hitting transports before the landings, or these guys are hitting the Panic Button to their friends back in Commorragh to send fleet aid and they wanted to lay out the welcome mat. Feeling a touch nervous about that all of a sudden.
that may be because they could not easily destroy the larger warships

Looks like we are spending every single bit of shipyard capacity (apart from the merchantmen we need for svartalfheim), on getting some ADCs out, so Garkill cant just run us over....

I should warn you that the Defence Stations are SCARY and that they will cause a lot of damage. any Omake will reduce that

I'm drawing a complete blank on omakes to fight orbital defense platforms. I just can't think of any interesting story for that.

Hope other people have more ideas or we'll lose most of our army before even getting to the surface.

Maybe we should just leave. It's looking increasingly unlikely that we'll land a big enough force on the ground and take the planet.

No. The update says we'll make it. Losses will be incurred, but we'll make it:

Admiral Freyr is confident that what is left of his fleet, in particular his two battleships, will be able to blast a hole in the orbital defences large enough to allow your forces to be landed but is not so confidant about his ability to take out all of the orbital defences without suffering heavy enough losses to leave his fleet overly vulnerable to raiding by the surviving Dark Eldar ships. Due to this he will attempt to destroy the Dark Eldar Defence Stations and around a third of the Orbital Weapons platforms but will leave the reminder alone.

Admiral Freyr believes he can make a hole to let us land. It's not as bad as you're thinking.

That will just give us the worst of both worlds. The Dark Eldar will be able to cripple our economies by slaughtering our merchantmen now that all our escorts are dead.

All our Escorts are dead? Then what about the 134 Escorts we still have that aren't dead?

as a note one of the Defence Stations shoots micro black holes and the other twists space

Joy. Anyways, can you please let the doomsayers know that in spite of that we still do have a chance of landing even if it's gonna hurt? Or are you doing the standard GM thing and enjoying the panic while sipping cognac and laughing maniacally?

I do not think anyone is saying we do not have a chance just that it is increasingly likely that we will lose everything if the next set of rolls is bad enough.

How about a ship losing power to its weapons, then ramming one and sallying forth for boarding action?

Like I said guys, I've got an idea for an omake. Give me a few hours to finish waking up and I'll get to it. You'll see what it is when I get it out. Trust me when I say you'll approve - I think it's one of my better ideas.

You're right with that.

I do think it's important for us as a thread to kind of ... well, I hate to get into the macho jingoism, but we all need to gird our loins and sack up a bit.

We won't have orbital dominance as we are effectively carving a 1/3rd envelope in the defences to camp out in. We will we facing formidable defences. We have also lost 40 million infantry, not counting however many hundreds of thousands of naval personnel we have lost in orbit. We will certainly lose 40 million more before we are through.

But we have a clear and present danger to the safety of the Nine Worlds that we need to take out and, being the Imperium successor state that we are...

... We have Reserves!

Right now, the only way out is through.

Fucking Freyr and Ridcully better not lose one of the battleships though, goddammit.

What I'm worried about is that the DE admiral is still hiding some of his fleet somewhere, to ambush the fleet once landings begin. There's no obvious flagship so far, which could just mean they only have cruisers, OR he's holding back for an opportunity to strike.

Dark Eldar don't have ships larger than Cruisers. Ships bigger than that don't really fit in larger portions of the Webway, and since until now the Dark Eldar have lived in the Webway they couldn't practically build such ships. Now, had we left the Dark Eldar alone for a few decades and given them time to build shipyards, they might have built some larger ships, but fortunately they haven't had time for that.
