Wait. The quantum-crystalline armor isn't developed yet?
If we go with the full data wipe, will we be able to possibly finish the superweapon designs that will be of most use to us? The Ionic Ring Ship would be a great way for us to speed up the terraforming of planets we intend to colonize and the World Devastator would really help us build up our fleet and obtain vital natural resources for our industries.
Also, would the Maw researchers we retrieve if we choose this option provide any substantial boost to Learning?
The vote is not open yet. The moratorium is still up for the next 2 1/2 hours.[X] Let the Maw Installation Run - Maw Installation remains operational. Option to research data added. Data will keep coming in allowing for further research in the future.
Not really because the Maw isn't in contact with anyone. The Empire doesn't waste anything or gain anything from the Maw. It took a completely random and highly lucky blind jump for the Maw to be made aware that anything had changed in the outside galaxy. They spent more than a decade not knowing that Tarkin was dead or that the Emperor died as well. So them running does not affect the Empire until they are discovered and leave the Maw itself. Which means we don't want to give them time to develop tech they will use at that point. Wiping the data completely is the best for us. We keep the information out of the hands of everyone but us, and we gain the principles of the tech which is what we want not the worthless superweapons. Even the sun crusher is worthless and all we need is the torpedo. The armor will never be applicable to anything large scale. On the other hand, if the Empire does pursue the use of superweapons, it means a whole lot of things diverted to them, meaning they'd be more shorthanded in terms of conventional assets. Dunno if my reasoning makes sense though.
No they won't because the Empire doesn't know about the Maw nor are the actually doing anything with it. The Maw worked on its own until it was forced to come out of hiding. Wiping the data forces them out of hiding but they will have nothing to show for it do the Empire will just focus on normal production. The problem with the Empire is that they will soon have to make a choice. Either keep the superweapon project alive or kill it, without the entire galaxy under their thumb I doubt they have the funding to continue on the research to the projected ends. Even assuming the most lopsided rolls for the Empire's economy, that won't change the fact that its in the process of disintegrating as various provincial powers arise and the New Republic gets their feet under them.
None of the superweapons are worth building. The tech behind their function is what we want. The ionic ring tech doesn't need to ship. The world devastator is all about the molecular furnace which can be built on anything and just fed materials. If we go with the full data wipe, will we be able to possibly finish the superweapon designs that will be of most use to us?
