The Dawi in Arda (Hiatus)

I don't feel good about the expedition. We're lucky our previous party got him safely. If we gotta I say only go to the volcano.

Our wife and some Kvinn could definitely go! This could be a great opportunity and I love Lady Galadriel .

We should build a barrow for the Eothoed. They aren't Dawi, but they should still be respectfully buried.

Over all a pretty good/great turn and a fun adventure chapter! Thank you for the updates and hard work.

I always feel like a advisor from dragon pass valley lol.

Would Daungrumm's journey to Lorien effect her dice this year @Warkeymon ?

Like what?
"The South Throng gathers close in the sunlight and whatever is outside the door does not enter. Until the sun goes down.

The battle at Belegost was bloodless, and the Deadeye can't swear that they actually fought anything. But they battled down through the whole mountain that night and several of the younger Leadbeards collapsed in the pass in exhaustion and had to be carried by the Longbeards back to Mithlond."

Did you not read the update where there was tapping on the door the throng was hiding behind?
I did. I guess I got a different impression of it just being in horrible condition and possibly cursed.

A little dumb I admit.

But I still want to explore the minor Halls, with an addendum to leave if similar phenomena are encountered.

@Warkeymon

What happened to the Slayers, did they continue East?

I say we wait with Nendumir and a Powder Hall until our forces can muster stronger runic protections against whatever the blue mountains want to throw at us. Ideally a banner rune of some sort. Once we can go there safely we can establish an outpost. This also let's us gather strength should any dwarf lay claim to the goods of our eventual outpost. E. I guess we really don't know which rune would actually do anything to the strange thing happening there but it still doesn't feel good.

Let the Eotheod (2 dice) apprentice from:
- Stonemasons of Shatterspear so they can rebuild their homes
- Farmers of Ironplough so they don't starve

Send Grazur to Fangorn.
Daungrumm - Yes, sen a small detachment of guards with them. These mountains are still inhabited by orcs.
Long Riders - Yes.

I don't know what do to about Captain Hagrim. On one hand, we should respect their traditions and wishes and build the mounds on the other hand, maybe they didn't consider that they could be buried in our tombs. I say we ask whatever they prefer we will provide (reserve one beardling dice).

Was there anything else except storage under the surface hold we wanted to build beside the fortifications? We want the silver mine for sure but I don't see an immediate need for anything else. Of course we want the siege machinery on our walls, I suggest north first, then south, east and west last. @Warkeymon How does the placement work? Is it one type per wall/set of towers?

Mostly agree on the Eotheod thtough I feel we should train some long riders to ensure we don't bleed the huskarls dry before the king can even reclaim his home.

Other that that though yeah, the hold has had a reasonable beginning. We could probably spend a turn or two fortifying and beautifying areas that we cut corners on at the very beginning. But in the coming few turns we may get to the point to the point where we can get started on large scale infrastructure pieces rather than simply establishing the hold proper.

I'm interested in a trade deal with the wealthy Mithlond, with more silver income coming our way. They're more than just the longest lasting Elvish state outside of Mirkwood, they're a naval power that is probably trading with Gondor, and mariners with centuries to millennia of experience who have probably mapped much of Arda.

They're our best chance of getting sulphur in a trade deal.

And perhaps sending a Throng to meet with the Beornings and see how friendly they are, now that we know they have a town.

What about investigating the smaller Blue Mountain halls, falling back if the danger is similar?

One thing when training the Eotheod king. Do we really want him to go full Dawi? Having a strong understanding of our norms and practices is good.... But he also isn't going to be our king. I'm just a little worried that it would be perceived as us placing essentially a puppet ruler on his throne

Do we have anything we could trade with Mithlond? It would be amazing to have goods on display in Mithlond so that any merchants traveling through there hears of us but we'd have to designate some sort of main export.

Currently we can make weapons, buildings and ale. Weapons we need, buildings we can't move but ale, ale has potential. Hobbits like ale, manlings like ale, even elves like it. If we can increase our production of ale we can not only gain silver but also spread the word around about our market. We could do a trade mission and bring ale, at a discount, to as many pubs in bree, the shire and to the elves of Mithlond as we can manage. If they want more they have to come to our market.

Right now the people of Rohan will find that better then dying to orcs. Long terms it could be an issue but if we avoid telling him to do anything and stay fair in our deals then we can just wait out those issues.

I think no matter what we do, our critics could always accuse us of installing a puppet. I'd rather we teach him the Dawi way but teach him well so that him and his people might prosper rather than do it half way.

I think we should send him to the elves to learn history and probably Sindarin, that way he will gain a deeper understanding of the world, his people and the people around him. It will also get him exposed to others which should mitigate any ideas of us wanting to install a puppet.

Things like administration, diplomacy, ethics and morals are very important if he wants his people to prosper so I suggest teaching that first. They are also sort of neutral things. War and personal combat after that and then off to the elves.

The Dawi in WHF already respect the death and burial rights of the umgi there. Not sure why that'd change here. We could offer to make sure that the mounds are *well* built so they will last but i think pushing them in the Dawi tombs is a bit much.

They have their own burial traditions, we should respect that. I dont see a point in burying them in our tombs, because their people would not be able to visit their dead to honor them.

Agreed on the burials.

I am really keen to get a quartet of bolt throwers to go along with a ranging throng though. After that we should probably build some along the 4 walls of our hold just to guarantee that any trolls would get an appropriate welcome

What about sending Grazur to Mirkwood? Could time well actually if our little gift to Glorfindel gives a good impression to Thranduil.

I think Thranduil is a secondary concern after galadrial. He's certainly important but she seems to be increasingly interested/suspicious of what we can actually do.

Thranduil is an elf, I would hope his gratitude lasts longer than a year
