The Dawi in Arda (Hiatus)

Pretty much, plus, the more we get from the Noldor, the more we can trade away directly, since it would allow merchants to come to our market to get Elvish goods without having to find rivendell, which I imagine isn't easy or possible for everyone, so that will only do our reputation some good.
Is it that likely when it's a comparatively short distance to Rivendell now that the Pass is no longer as dangerous?

I'm leery about doing that unless we can concretely work out how we will be changing it and what we will be getting more of when because right now the plan works and works well for getting what we need
If I might assuage that leeriness, how about from 10 to 3 a turn. Easily palpable while steadily growing our own.

As for more of, I lean towards dice obviously as something only possible in the five years, but there is also more of those gems.

Yeah, in a setting like Arda, time is money and the sooner you can get to a good, especially in mountainous regions, the better.
I suppose that's true. The cost/benefit ratio would make up for it over time with the less, well, time spent traveling with goods.

[X] Plan: Humble beginnings

-Initial barter

--Buy:
---Noldor Grain x10
---Noldor Fruit x10
---Noldor Vegetables x 5
---Wood x 15
---Steel ingots x 20
---Gold ingots x 3
---Noldor gems x 3

--Sell:
---Ankor grain x 10
---Dawi Ale x 5
---Silver ingot x 23

-Five year Testing agreement

--Buy:
---Noldor Grain x4 (total 20x)
---Noldor Fruit x4 (total 20x)
---Noldor Vegetables x2 (total 10x)
---Wood x25 (total 125x)
---Artisan dice x3
---Warsmith dice x6

--Sell:
---Ale x5 (total x25)
---Silver x4,8 (Total of 24 over 5 years)

We try to get as many dice as possible and secure a steady supply of timber and native food. This should enable us to focus on construction and the feeding of our people. Once trust has been established we can work on a more extensive trading agreement.

Looking at previous construction efforts we use mostly wood and warsmith dice from the options we can trade for. We don't have enough population to really have to worry about more food production yet.

If we are worried that the people out on the plains will suffer while we wait 10 years for the young king grows up here is an alternative.

[X] Plan: Why wait when we can kill Orcs now?

We gather the throng to meet the foul greenskin on the plains of battle. Attempt to rescue as many of Eotheods people as possible and provide temporary shelter until the problem of the Orcs can be dealt with more permanently or until the young king comes of age.

[X] Plan please don't sell all our coal

Well 3 a turn is what I had already and that's what I used to basically get the more dice and supplies for trade and our own crop diversity. so I think we ended up on the same page anyway?

I suppose that's true. The cost/benefit ratio would make up for it over time with the less, well, time spent traveling with goods.

Especially when it comes to perishable goods like food, drink, and so on. Plus we can arguably *afford* more, so we'd be able to stock up for more trade and thus would be a bigger hub for merchants to come to.

"Ten years is not such a long time for the Dawi young King. We will guest you here in a surface hall for you and your Huscarls and even train them if you will accept the offer. For there are few that know the secrets to Urk slaying better than the Dawi, and we have long experience training Umgi. It will be hard, and it will be punishing. But I can assure you manling, that when you are of age by the measure of your people, you will be able to leave Karak Drekfurt with head held high and a warhost worthy of the name. If you and yours would earn further aid, your throng could do well to aid us in meeting other kingdoms of your people, so that we might trade and find common cause with them. You can fight beside us against any attack, and those that do, will be girded in proper Dawi Steel and bear arms of the same. You will not find better I am confident, even if you can find its match. For now, rest, and know that vengeance will be yours in a decade's time. I will also see to it that you are introduced to the Noldor and Lord Elrond their ruler. Perhaps he can be of further aid to you."

I don't get why people have not considered the idea of putting runes on cannons instead of balistas, you know we can also put those in a cannon rigth?
Tanks to the pushes of Thorgrim grudge bearer the runesmiths considered the flame cannon to be tested enough time to be worty of receiving runes.
A cannon fires a faster moving projectile making it harder to dodge and has a bigger impact.
Selling irrepreacable metal is unwise.
Selling our runelord time is also unwise, we need to put it to work on an apprentice, whilst he is doing so he can make stuff for us.
We are a beggar as far as royal equipment is concerned, I will never support selling the work of our runelord until we have a full runic set, with weapon shield and armour.
Hold runes can easly be made by the apprentices, meanwhile our runelord keeps making stuf for ourself the future hig priest of Gazul and other important personel like our guardian of the gate.

Will his people last ten years without a unified military to counter the marauding orcs?

I am concerned that while the young king is training with us, his people will die and suffer.

I think it's a case of Orcs massing up to attack the city.
Without a city to target, they won't be able to unite in such numbers.

But yes, many will die to the roving bands.

I wonder what it would cost to hire a Noldor tutor to teach the royal children (both human and dawi) about Arda.

Bythe way, there is no need to make a dedicated place for the human king, we are finishing the guest residence for a reason like this one.

Gisilhari is gonna need more men in the army other then the Huskarls he has, we should also send out a Throng to see if we can find more of his people

10 years isn't long for a Dwarf, this seems like an excellent opportunity to make long lasting Allies of the Eotheod and teach them some Dawi values, I'd say its worth it to host him and his escort for however long they need and offer support when he reclaims Flamberg, in exchange for oaths if alliance etc.

Dice are the most useful out of the lot and we should take as many as possible, while giving as little as possible.

Gromril and our Runelord are the only things we should never trade. The first one is irreplaceable and we don't have enough even for our own needs, while our Rhunrikki's services should be exclusive, beyond the occasional trinket gifted to a King or Prince or as a reward for great services rendered to the Dawi.

I'm sorry but the idea of hiring out our runesmith for five years before we even get the apprentice going is just foolish.

Ok so there are some serious problem with the trade plans that need addressing.

Firstly why oh why oh why are we selling coal of all things? The resource that is vitally important to us takes a lot of work to get and is unreliable in acquiring more, the resource that is near valueless to our trade partners and people are trading it away in massive quantities!!! We're about to go negative on coal once the iron mine is up, if any of these trade deals win they lock our miner dice into getting both the new minor coal veins online at which point our miners will have some truly crippling negatives applied to them each turn as they'll have to work the mines near constantly. Please please please do not trade away our coal!

Secondly Goat meat! Slightly more valuable than coal but still low value and required for throwing feasts. Why are we trading this away? Feasts are an easy way to raise morale when necessary and our income is small enough that any sale is a hit.

Steel ingots! Why are we buying so much? The current plans overflow our steel storage which will lead to degradation! And we just found an iron mine. I understand wanting more for safety and this would actually help somewhat with the coal issue simply because we could shut off the forges but why are we trading something low value (coal) for something much more expensive (steel) when we can turn the low value thing into the expensive thing directly?

Ale! Are we really selling almost all our ale? This will be a serious problem if any kind of trouble strikes we've been building up a good supply so we can weather a seige that forces us into our hold, please lets not sell all of that way.

Wood! Why are we buying wood? this is less important than the other issues but what is the value in trading for wood when we already have a free source of it.

It's probably too late to win but I'm going to try for a plan that makesmore sense rather than trading massive quantities of stuff for very little gain:

[x] Plan: Please don't sell all our coal.
-[x] Immediate Barter:
--[x] Sell: Silver Ingots x4 (800) Dawi Ale x5 (50) = 850
--[x] Buy: Steel Ingots x 14 (700) Noldor Wine x5 (50) Noldor Vegetable x10 (40) Noldor Fruit x 20 (20) Noldor Grain x20 (40) = 850
-[x] Five Year Agreement:
--[x] Sell: Silver Ingots x20 (4000) Dawi Ale x20 (200) = 4200
--[x] Buy: Noldor Artisans x3 (2400), Noldor Warsmith x1 (400) Noldor Farmer x2 (1200) Noldor Vegetables x30 (120) Noldor Fruit x 30 (30) Noldor Grain x25 (50) = 4200

Please please please can people considering voting/switching to this. It gets us enough steel to be safe without buying so much we fill our storage and lose it to degredation. It trades away a reasonable amount of silver and ale that allows us to keep growing our stockpiles it get us in some food variety and a taster of Noldor wine to see how our dawi feel about it and it gets us lots of dice to spend on stuff. All without trading away stuff we need for no gain. We can trade the Runesmith after the five years are up and he has an apprentice.

Your plan is definetly the more solid one, but I don't want to split the vote and risk losing our runelord for five turns because we aperently need gold and jewels right now.

You can approval vote for both, just add both plans in one post and the tally will count you as voting for both. They have to be in the same post though or else it will count as you switching your vote.
