The Dawi in Arda (Hiatus)

I think we can just sweep the Eotheod lands with a large Kull, ignoring Framsburg for now, and we'd greatly disrupt the Urki horde. It'd go towards a Grudge, and help our erstwhile allies.

Of course, getting scouting information this turn will really help in planning. I still see turn 21-22 being the start of some war turns, unless we do decide to turtle.

We could start scouting for the Urki mountain holds to the North to scour. I bet they're tunneled in more than a few places. Close quarters gives us such an immense advantage with our superior armament. Tunnel fighting is really strong for us, after all. And we'll want to push North anyways, to better support the Eotheod.

And every Runic item we can get to the throng is a huge bonus. Given our struggle in improving already established items we might want to look into new build items while we have an apprentice. (Runes of Light(If they ever become an actual action), and Runes of Stone are activities I want Linn on since they've got low DC) King G should totally get a runic item to celebrate the reconquest. A lance/spear or banner is probably best.

But for our throngs: Elder Urtain has a terror helm (Rune of Dismay is a weapon rune though so maybe an oversight by @Warkeymon )that's new build so it should go pretty easy, do it for more Leadbeard and Throng approval; Banners of Slowness and Courage can be knocked out pretty quick if singular-two runes are used and seeded amongst the throng; A warhorn with just the Master Rune of Dismay would be ridiculously OP in tunnels, great everywhere, and a fairly low DC; And then since we tend to go with our Throngs when we make big moves, I'm thinking that armor might be a priority for Gatrim's panoply, with each of the three armor runes Gurfroy has, and one of our few Gromril (Or Mithril maybe) pieces, otherwise I'd like to think about an Axe with double cleaving and a fire rune for explosive blows, or that Hammer idea Gutfroy has since we can use it for war and the forge (Karstah should be trained as a Warsmith since we're a healer) and it can become a King/Queen's weapon in later generations.
Once Linn's initial five year training is compete I'd prefer to put her and Gutfroy on projects together, get those 50 and 60+ DC things, custom and preexisting, handled.

IIRC Linn suffers a pretty bad malus for her journeyman years. If I didn't have to go to the shops right now, I'd go look for where that was said. Especially since it was something like starting at halving her rolls and diminishing over ten years.

I also want to stick Linn together with Gutfroy for the higher DC items. But while she's got that malus, stick her on the DC 20 Rune of Stone fortifications, and Rune of Light-ing the hold to lower Coal consumption.

Still lower DC items can have a large impact for a low cost, and it might be worth on some turns splitting up Rhunki actions.

The malus is half. That's still 75 on average with them working together, 85 with the Workshop.

I'd only put her on the fortifications if it seemed likely an attack would come, when more likely we will go out eventually. And the items would still contribute to a defense.

I was just reading about the Nameless things gnawing at the foundations of the earth, the creatures that inhabit the endless depths, older than even Sauron.

Its unsettling that the earth beneath us is home to such monsters.
Ancient tunnels carved by unknown things that infest the darkest reaches of the earth.

We already seem to have come into contact with some surface stragglers, but what lies deep in the sunless oceans and twisted caverns?

Probably Ulmo-centric, like that amphibious creature we spotted.

You take a step back as the creature bursts from the river. It is a brown scaled creature, narrow with the body of some great fish but four thick webbed feet carry it slowly from the water towards you. Two huge eyes bulge forth from the body and a maw of terrible fangs reach out for you.

Osse for a time harkened to Melkor's discord, who is to say others, perhaps even Ulmo himself, did not as well, spawning things such as the Watcher and more from the acute connection water has to the Ainulindale?

Others may be born of the thoughts of Aule, master of the earth, for might not he have had failed in his prototypes and early attempts at the shells of the Naugrim? Aule it is mentioned was most heavily pressed by Melkor in sabotaging his works, who is to say what emerged from such?

One need but look at the Petty-Dwarves to visualize a failed product.

Melkor was jealous of him, for Aulë was most like himself in thought and in powers; and there was long strife between them, in which Melkor ever marred or undid the works of Aulë, and Aulë grew weary in repairing the tumults and disorders of Melkor.

I read a theory that they are something even more fundamental, unaffiliated with any of the great powers.

Essentially Melkor introduced discord into the song of creation, these creatures were not created intentionally, but rather sprung into existence from that dissonance. Like an off-note manifesting into a nightmare.

So they obey no-one, they serve no-one they were created by no-one. They are horrific manifestations of discord at the heart of the worlds creation slowly gnawing at the roots of the earth.

Gandalf the Grey describing the Nameless things from his fight with the Balrog.

Deep is the abyss that is spanned by Durin's Bridge, and none has measured it.

Yet it has a bottom, beyond light and knowledge.

Thither I came at last, to the uttermost foundations of stone.

He was with me still. His fire was quenched, but now he was a thing of slime, stronger than a strangling snake.

We fought far under the living earth, where time is not counted.

Ever he clutched me and ever I hewed him, till at last he fled into dark tunnels.

They were not made by Durin's folk...

Far, far below the deepest delving of the Dwarves, the world is gnawed by nameless things.

Even Sauron knows them not. They are older than he.

Now I have walked there, but I will bring no report to darken the light of day.

In that despair my enemy was my only hope, and I pursued him, clutching at his heel.

So does Silverplunge have routes out of the mountains if the way through Udrabax is blocked/sealed?
Most of Durin's Folk are centered around the Heath in the eastern part of the range. A large vale between two spurs of the Ered Mithrin that meet at Silverplunge with the Dwarves dwelling in those spurs. The southern spur bends towards the Iron Hills and there's some of Durin's Folk there.

The road to Udrabax is their only connection to the rest of the world in the west but they have routes to the Iron Hills in the east and then from there they can go to Erebor or the rest of the world as they like.

And what I get now then is that there is no proper way out of Udrabax if Silverplunge is denied to Neith, at best they might use the roads to leg it east before heading through the mountains.

If the diplomacy training and Gazrik's kull succeed this turn, next turn would be a good time to send him to Rivendell for tutoring in history or something, now that he's learned the doublespeak, synchronize it with the Barrow Downs expedition and really get Elrond's attention.

Quite possible. By that argument the aquatic ones are either not so vulnerable to water as other creatures of discord and Melkor because they're not shaped by Melkor and thus don't bare Ulmo's hatred, or because their form was unknowingly influenced by Ulmo or one of his Maiar in the Ainulindale.

Ok fingers crossed we finish the entrance this turn as that will open up like 5 different things to do.

Also really hoping the Eotheod succeed in their rolls.

I'm looking forward to the meeting with Erebor plus the shifters and woodsmen. I wonder if the shifters will be annoyed we put them off so long. They have to know we've been here for a while.

Considering the Beornings (not every Beorning is a skinchanger) probably think we're dwarves, I doubt they're gonna be indignant, so much as just generally wary going on curious when people are clearly coming and going.

We also stayed as far away from their settlements and structures when feasible.

After initial exploration at least.

Other than that and traveling through their lands here and there, we've been really respectful for a culture that is unlikely to be really hot up about borders since we aren't hunting there or anything.

Hey, just wanted to apologize for not delivering on the Omake yet. Just been in a down mood due to recent events and its killed all motivation.
