Taking the Mickey: A Save Disney Quest

One question here, according to the deal with Nintendo the ride in Tomorrowland 2055 will be opened during the third quarter of 1986 in order to coordinate with the release of the Metroid game.

Does that mean that Nintendo is releasing the Metroid game in a specific date? Because the first time that happened was in the 90's, with Sega, and Sonic 2.
Nintendo is borrowing a bunch of translators to get an English version ready for when the ride opens, projected for mid/late August this year. The game won't be on regular shelves in America until September, but instead will be an exclusive Tomorrowland pick up for a week or two. It's a one-off PR stunt right now, although that could change if it proves successful.

Huh, so Nintendo might beat Sega to the punch here before they attempt their whole 2sday for Sonic 2.

Nice.
It'll still be there next turn and we might be slightly less overwhelmingly busy, is the thinking.
The muppets option has a DC of -25, so we win either way. Furthermore it gives us 6 successes towards the Hollywood Studios planning, which basically means that we finish the planning now.

I'm in agreement that we should take the Muppets, it is an insta-win (and dice willing could be an amazing success maybe we could get Sesame Street too), and it accomplishes the successes we need for Hollywood Studios. I took out Learning French for 'Making Time' there's time in Q3 and Q4 for that. Earth Rocks I think works better than Wonders of Life, and potentially allows us to put in Star Tours at Hollywood Studios. If it wasn't for Jeff... I'd have put personal focus on Clean Cars. We have time for Disney Labs, Going Greener, and some much needed renovations to the Magic Kingdom in WDW later this year. I'm placing Who moved the Animation Department first, mostly because I want an insane success quality on Roger Rabbit. The higher the better. There's no indication that we can't push for female leads next turn.

In terms of Q3 and Q4... I think we need to focus on Magic Kingdom (we keep putting it off) working on hotels to groundbreaking, and TV and maybe Stores. Oh and take Learning French twice. I have an idea too to make the Mt. Fuji coaster a reality. We make it a Matterhorn type coaster, and get maybe Toyota to be the sponsor (let's be honest they are WAY bigger than Nintendo. ) Also it might convince corporations in other countries to build up their showcases... Perhaps a Formula 1 Autopia in France? Just a thought. Anyone have ideas for what new pavilions to do too? Norway? Australia? South Korea? Brazil?

Looks like it.

Voting now open! Please keep all votes inside a plan until the voting process comes to a full and complete stop.

And since we broke 100 pages, you all get me rambling about the title I chose for a bit.

1. Taking the Mickey: poking fun at, and this quest is poking fun at Eisner just a bit.
2. Taking the Mickey: Eisner taking control of Mickey.
3. Taking the Mickey: the players taking control of Mickey Eisner.
4. Disney Quest: Gotta pay homage to the ambitious VR playground, even if it was horribly outdated when it went.
5. Save Disney: the campaign Roy Disney started in '84 that ended with Eisner as CEO.
6. Save Disney: the campaign Roy Disney started in '04 that ousted Eisner from Disney.

[X] Plan: Taking Care of Business

Disneyland
:

-[*] Tomorrow's Tomorrowland: The project is all set to finish without you. It's a huge load off your shoulders, and you can sit back and relax as all the updates and the new ride goes in.

-[X] Clean Cars: You had this marked down as part of the Tomorrowland update, so it's probably a good idea to get to work on this. With the literal death of the planet looming, you have companies lining up at your door to help on this, as well as several prominent green tech research groups offering to let you take a peek at the future of batteries. Might be worthwhile to see if you can't make the cars run on electric and stick solar panels on the station. {CONSERVATION}

-[*] A Bona Fide, Electrified, Six-Car Monorail: LA has asked for your help getting in touch with Martin Marietta, the makers of the monorail system you use, in order to bring the electric transit method to the city. They'd also like to have the line include Disneyland, of course. It's a simple enough meeting, one you can't really justify ignoring.

-[X] A Nintendo Legend
: Nintendo just released a new game in Japan that's been getting rave reviews, and having gotten a copy yourself from the company, you can see why. It might be worthwhile to try and start getting The Legend of Zelda into Fantasyland ahead of time.

-[X] Nintendo Meet-and-Greets: Which reminds you, it might be worthwhile to have Mario and Samus start making appearances as well. It couldn't hurt, certainly.

Walt Disney World:

-[X] A New Ride is Brewing
: The Black Cauldron movie wasn't just a hit, it was a phenomena. It only makes sense to try and turn it into a ride. {PLANNING}

-[X] Find a New Sponsor: With the recession, Eastern has gone under. It's a shame, but more importantly, it means you need a new sponsor for If You Had Wings, and fast.

EPCOT:

-[X] The Living Seas
: There are plans for a massive aquarium in Future World West, and while it might take a bit longer to actually get all the work needed done, you think it'd be just the thing to really set EPCOT apart from every other theme park out there. {CONSTRUCTION} {DEVELOPMENT}

-[X] Journey to the Center of the Earth... Rocks!: You've had an idea for another Future World pavilion, one based around the interior of our planet, with tons of educational value. Send it over to the imagineers to polish off, and see if you can't get something set in stone. {PLANNING - 7} {CONSTRUCTION - 7}

Disney Movie Studios:

-[X] Lights! Camera! Camera Again!
: It might be worthwhile to go to the live action studios and help out with some of their projects ahead of time. Your perspective on some reshoots would probably be appreciated. May be taken once per film. Upcoming film: "Flight of the Navigator" {LIVE-ACTION}

-[X] Man of Steel: Warner Bros. is concerned about the new Superman movie they're going to be distributing. They're right to be, after Superman III. They've asked you to see if you could help out the producers a bit, maybe throw some funding and directors that way. There's a coaster for the movie studios park in it for you. {LIVE-ACTION}

-[X] A Fight!: Jeff and Don are having a spat over a rat. Well, something involving mice, but you wanted to rhyme, and hopefully diffuse some of the tension. Sadly, Joe's gotten involved, and really, why can't everyone just get along?

Disney Television:

-[X] A Nintendo Series
: You've got the rights for Nintendo, you've got ideas, perhaps it's time to put pen to paper and get a new show based on a Nintendo character out there.

Ready Creek Improvement District:

-[X] A New Hotel
: The board has asked you to start working on a number of hotels this year. It's time to knuckle down and start working on some major expansions here, just so you can handle the increased guest flow. {PLANNING}

-[X] Opening Day (Disney's Animated Adventure): Elizabeth finished everything up last quarter, but you wanted to have a real opening day ceremony, starring her. The hotel wouldn't even be finished right now if it wasn't for her, after all, and you wanted to see if you could have her stick around for some future projects.

-[X] Continue Planning (The Grand Floridian): Jerry Allison is here to help you finish off the plans for the project, and see it all the way through. {PLANNING} {DEVELOPMENT}

-[X] 15 Muppets of Fame: Hollywood isn't just about movies, it's about TV, too. Maybe you could get Jim Henson in on the project to really round out the park?

Disney Company Offices:

-[X] Recession Planning
: This recession has the potential to gum up everything, and you suspect other recessions will bring their own problems. Still, you can do your best to plan around it.

-[X] Continue Planning a New Resort (Lille, France): You've finally got a location down, now it's time to start getting to the nitty gritty details. Some people were a bit surprised about the exact placement, but given how cheap the land is here, and the fact that it's liable to become a European hub once the chunnel gets done, you think it's the best choice. {PLANNING}

-[X] Making Time: While they have said you're unlikely to beat Reagan for man of the year, they do want to run a piece on you. This could be a good way to get the word out about some things.

-[X] Go See How the Disney Store is Doing: Steve has been moping about the office lately. From all accounts, that can't be because of how the Disney Store is doing, since you've been seeing more profit from it than expected. Maybe he was hoping you'd be at the opening? Hopefully you can go over and patch things up with him.

-[X] Houston, We Have a Problem: There's a letter on your desk from NASA detailing a massive breakdown of management. You've been asked to help. It's up to you whether or not you do so.

-[X] Take a Vacation: You're taking on a ton this quarter. You need to make sure you take time for yourself, as well.

-[X] Personal Focus: Sometimes, that personal touch is what you really need. Can only be taken once per roll, but can be taken multiple times in a turn.

I proposed this plan a while ago, I feel that it can work very well.

Hmm... These plans are getting long. It might take a while to decide which one to go for-

everyone goes for the three Ms

Or I could go with everyone else. That works too.

It's too late! The MMM train has no breaks! More seriously, I prefer this plan off the ones on offer so far, not that there are many differences between them.

By the way, regarding the Super Mario Bros movie I'm going to have to express an unpopular opinion. Oh don't get me wrong, the movie was a pile of garbage, but I actually kind off liked the idea of it being a prequel of sorts to the video games, and I liked the idea off the whole parallel world where dinosaurs survived (I just hated the execution of both of those ideas). The problem was... well on the movie front, literally everything else (except for the comedy sometimes, it was hit or miss), and all the problems of the 'WTF happened' video Overmind kindly provided behind the scenes. This is coming from the experience I had as an older child (10 or so?) where I bought (yes, bought) the movie from Blockbuster (who were already starting to fold) alongside Scooby Doo!: Winter WonderDog. I still have the DVDs, though I don't know why. One things for sure though: I should have bought more Scooby Doo compilations instead of the Super Mario Bros movie.
Alongside Operation: Dumbo, one of the worst movies I personally have seen. I'm starting to ramble. The point is that I think the movie is terrible, but had some good ideas, just executed in the worst way possible.

Exactlt! The ideas behind the Super mario Brothers Live Action movie were good enough, the main issue was the horrible execution done with them. But this time around, since it is Disney who has the rights, the movie could become what it was meant to be: A faithful adaptation and homage to the videogame itself.

So long as we don't try the same with Legend of Zelda, as I feel that franchise works better as an animated series.

Omake: Not a Crook... Honest! (Semi-canon)
Omake: Not a Crook... Honest!

The governor seethed as he got off the phone conference with Wilson and Cranston. Generally he liked to keep an ear to the ground of the happenings in DC from California's own Senators, but apparently he should have been more paranoid about what was going on in DC. Whenever Cranston was happy, it was never a good sign. The news was worse than he had feared, Reagan had folded. Increases to spending, small business stimulus, and apparently Meese had recused himself from the Exxon and related cases. This was a disaster for the Governor, for three years he had slashed budgets, cut environmental spending and other spending and cancelled planned tax increases across the board. There were only 6 months until election and Bradley was going to try and take him down again. George looked at his advisors sitting across his desk. "Well, let's hear it."

Oscar cleared his throat, "It may prove to be a difficult campaign..."

Governor George Deukmejian of California looked at him dead in the eye, "I may be grossly overpaying you... Rob, what are our donors looking like?"

Rob shook his head "If you want good news... I don't have much. Petroleum Executives are jumping ship, and well your record as governor isn't exactly compatible with national politics anymore. The GOP Is currently trying to find someone to take on White in Texas, but after Clements shit the bed with Petroleum, and that SMU thing... Honestly we aren't high on the GOP's rescue list this year."

The governor frowned, "I've cut taxes and slashed spending, and was a popular governor before this shit with Exxon started. This is the president's home state and we can't get help? Schedule a call with the President please. Maybe he can lend me Atwater."

Rob sighed, "I tried that. I tried the Vice President too and everyone else I knew. Money's tight, they think Martinez has a shot at taking Florida, that and a few other races are taking priority"

The governor rapped his knuckles on the desk, "Anne, how's polling?"

Anne frowned, "Not good, your opponent in November is a black liberal mayor of Los Angeles who was vocally against your environmental record and handling of AIDS, has already secured an endrosement from Brown, and is due to have a very public meeting with Michael Eisner along with the rest of the Los Angeles City Council regarding installation of a monorail mass transit system.

The governor put his face in his hand, he was so fucking dead. "How can this get any worse?"

Oscar coughed, "Umm... well Nixon's in Sacramento rounding up GOP legislators. He's trying to mop up his legacy but..."

The governor sighed, looked at Oscar, not seeing Oscar's colleagues gesturing for Oscar to shut up.

"...well... he's trying to create a High speed Rail Initiative Proposition for the ballot. The goal is to get up and down the state easily, and offset airline and other intrastate traffic/smog. He's using the whole "I founded the EPA, I had a feeling this was coming thing in the ads. He's gotten 200,000 signatures, and is taking some state senators under his wing."

Governor George Deukmejian looked at Oscar for a moment, before saying "Oscar, you're fired."
