Taking the Mickey: A Save Disney Quest

My plan compared with Overmind's replaces Cutting Room Floor with "Push for more female leads" since that gives us a long-term bonus to our movies if successful.

It also drops "15 muppets of fame" since the board goal regarding the movie studio park is "finish planning by the end of the year" and we're already almost there. We have been unobtrusive regarding the Hollywood Studios park so far. We built it on their land and picked a nondescript name, they are probably happy with how things are going, so we can afford annoying the other participants by delaying work for a quarter, especially since there's a recession on.

Delaying work on Hollywood Studios gives room to start a Research Division which will give us extra actions and help us push the boundaries of technology later on with things like Hydrophobia and Hurricane Proofing.

[] Plan: Onward, to the future!

Disneyland
:

-[*] Tomorrow's Tomorrowland: The project is all set to finish without you. It's a huge load off your shoulders, and you can sit back and relax as all the updates and the new ride goes in.

-[] Clean Cars:
You had this marked down as part of the Tomorrowland update, so it's probably a good idea to get to work on this. With the literal death of the planet looming, you have companies lining up at your door to help on this, as well as several prominent green tech research groups offering to let you take a peek at the future of batteries. Might be worthwhile to see if you can't make the cars run on electric and stick solar panels on the station. {CONSERVATION}

-[*] A Bona Fide, Electrified, Six-Car Monorail: LA has asked for your help getting in touch with Martin Marietta, the makers of the monorail system you use, in order to bring the electric transit method to the city. They'd also like to have the line include Disneyland, of course. It's a simple enough meeting, one you can't really justify ignoring.

-[] A Nintendo Legend: Nintendo just released a new game in Japan that's been getting rave reviews, and having gotten a copy yourself from the company, you can see why. It might be worthwhile to try and start getting The Legend of Zelda into Fantasyland ahead of time.

-[] Nintendo Meet-and-Greets: Which reminds you, it might be worthwhile to have Mario and Samus start making appearances as well. It couldn't hurt, certainly.

Walt Disney World:

-[] A New Ride is Brewing
: The Black Cauldron movie wasn't just a hit, it was a phenomena. It only makes sense to try and turn it into a ride. {PLANNING}

-[] Find a New Sponsor: With the recession, Eastern has gone under. It's a shame, but more importantly, it means you need a new sponsor for If You Had Wings, and fast.

EPCOT:

-[] The Living Seas
: There are plans for a massive aquarium in Future World West, and while it might take a bit longer to actually get all the work needed done, you think it'd be just the thing to really set EPCOT apart from every other theme park out there. {CONSTRUCTION} {DEVELOPMENT}

-[] Journey to the Center of the Earth... Rocks!: You've had an idea for another Future World pavilion, one based around the interior of our planet, with tons of educational value. Send it over to the imagineers to polish off, and see if you can't get something set in stone. {PLANNING - 7} {CONSTRUCTION - 7}

Disney Movie Studios:

-[] Push for More Female Leads:
Samus and Ripley have shown that a solid female lead can generate a ton of interest, if the hype about your new Tomorrowland is accurate. It might be worthwhile to push more female leads in your films.

-[] Man of Steel: Warner Bros. is concerned about the new Superman movie they're going to be distributing. They're right to be, after Superman III. They've asked you to see if you could help out the producers a bit, maybe throw some funding and directors that way. There's a coaster for the movie studios park in it for you. {LIVE-ACTION}

-[] A Fight!: Jeff and Don are having a spat over a rat. Well, something involving mice, but you wanted to rhyme, and hopefully diffuse some of the tension. Sadly, Joe's gotten involved, and really, why can't everyone just get along?

Disney Television:

-[] A Nintendo Series
: You've got the rights for Nintendo, you've got ideas, perhaps it's time to put pen to paper and get a new show based on a Nintendo character out there.

Ready Creek Improvement District:

-[] A New Hotel
: The board has asked you to start working on a number of hotels this year. It's time to knuckle down and start working on some major expansions here, just so you can handle the increased guest flow. {PLANNING}

-[] Opening Day (Disney's Animated Adventure): Elizabeth finished everything up last quarter, but you wanted to have a real opening day ceremony, starring her. The hotel wouldn't even be finished right now if it wasn't for her, after all, and you wanted to see if you could have her stick around for some future projects.

-[] Continue Planning (The Grand Floridian): Jerry Allison is here to help you finish off the plans for the project, and see it all the way through. {PLANNING} {DEVELOPMENT}

Disney Company Offices:

-[] Recession Planning
: This recession has the potential to gum up everything, and you suspect other recessions will bring their own problems. Still, you can do your best to plan around it.

-[] Continue Planning a New Resort (Lille, France): You've finally got a location down, now it's time to start getting to the nitty gritty details. Some people were a bit surprised about the exact placement, but given how cheap the land is here, and the fact that it's liable to become a European hub once the chunnel gets done, you think it's the best choice. {PLANNING}

-[] Making Time: While they have said you're unlikely to beat Reagan for man of the year, they do want to run a piece on you. This could be a good way to get the word out about some things.

-[] Go See How the Disney Store is Doing: Steve has been moping about the office lately. From all accounts, that can't be because of how the Disney Store is doing, since you've been seeing more profit from it than expected. Maybe he was hoping you'd be at the opening? Hopefully you can go over and patch things up with him.

-[] Houston, We Have a Problem: There's a letter on your desk from NASA detailing a massive breakdown of management. You've been asked to help. It's up to you whether or not you do so.

-[] Take a Vacation: You're taking on a ton this quarter. You need to make sure you take time for yourself, as well.

-[] Start a Research Division: With the expanded imagineering department, you can afford to set up a branch just for blue sky research. {RESEARCH}

-[] Personal Focus: Sometimes, that personal touch is what you really need. Can only be taken once per roll, but can be taken multiple times in a turn.

Those do sound interesting, but in the end I decided to leave them for later.

Guess we'll see which plan the others prefer, but I think we have both hit the nail on the essentials in the end.

Given the bonuses and the DC for 15 Mippets of Fame, not taking it seems kind of pointless.

Also, Muppets of Fame lays the groundwork for us acquiring the muppets. Perhaps we could prevent Jim Henson from working himself crazy hard.

Oh! Hear me out, for a Nintendo series we go animated. In fact, play up the animation. Paper Mario! Sure it's real early, but it's perfect for a show.

I also like the idea of doing CG Metroid movie, even keeping the Samus reveal, but that should wait until after Toy Story. Obviously. Probably best to avoid any live action work for a while. Tron aside, the tech just isn't there.

Legend of Zelda is probably the only one we could pull of live action, but I think we should wait for more games and established lore.

The concept for Paper Mario has still noet even been established, or for Super Mario RPG. We have to use the franchises as they are.

Personally, I like the thought of using Metroid for a CG movie after Toy Story, however i feel that we can do a Super Mario Brothers Live Action movie, unlike what happened in OTL. The main issue in that production was, well, I'll let this video speak for itself:

As for Zelda, I think we should focus on cartoon and animation ofr the series itself. I think it lends itself better to that instead of Live Action.

That's an advantage of doing it animated, you can use an unknown voice actor. This isn't the age of the internet where you can google someone. Bonus points if the actress has a gender neutral name like Alex, but's overboard. Don't have Samus take her helmet off until, use gender neutral pronouns when necessary... or anyone she meets assumes she's a dude and she doesn't bother to correct them. Whenever she's wearing the helmet it can distort her voice into something less feminine... probably best to hire a contralto though. Or maybe the suit is damaged and that's why she doesn't sound like herself.

Point is, it can be done. Gamers have played Metroid sure, but "What if Samus was a girl!" Hadn't entered the public consciousness yet. Don't advertise it to gamers specifically. Advertise is as Metroid. Aliens is coming out soon right? We can take it in that direction.

That is way too complicated; besides, there's a better way to do this: write the movie the same way Alien was, with no gendered roles. Ripley is a phenomenal character and it shows the audience that women can badasses without making it the twist of the movie.

Aliens was about 10 years ago (But I get the point but I don't see a reason to hide Samus is a girl when Ripley is a well known female badass)

But aren't we starting a ride where Samus is shown to be a girl at the end? Also, we will be having characters around the parks, and Samus will be shown to be a girl there if she unmasks.

Samus won't be revealed unless you hi-score, and if you do meet and greet Samus she won't take off her helmet unless the guest has a badge signifying the hi-score.
damn it, thanks for reminding me (I thought the second one came out in august though)
Should be July 18th, unless I'm mistaken.

That's what the meet and greet covers. She'll be wearing the helmet unless she spots a guest with the score badge, at which point she'll take it off to converse with them,

One question here, according to the deal with Nintendo the ride in Tomorrowland 2055 will be opened during the third quarter of 1986 in order to coordinate with the release of the Metroid game.

Does that mean that Nintendo is releasing the Metroid game in a specific date? Because the first time that happened was in the 90's, with Sega, and Sonic 2.
