And I'm sure that Alex will be grateful for that fact too. It will be much more comfortable for him.

Later that evening I was riding Red, as usual, we were flying above my patrol's partners, Miss Militia and Manpower.
Miss Militia was replacing Velocity who was still recuperating. He was doing much better and was awake, it was mostly the doctor insisting on some rest. He should be cleared for action tomorrow. Physically at least, mentally it was another story. I hadn't seen him personally but Hannah was a little worried, she said that he was pretty jumpy and paranoid.
I wanted to offer a visit by Hug, however, unlike the more physical sort of healing I had access to, mental health was a much more delicate subject. It wasn't something that I could offer casually and I was still waiting for a response on that subject.
For my part, I was worried for Hannah herself, despite her status as a Noctis cape replacing Velocity meaning that she would be doing three four-hour patrols in a 24 hours period. One this morning, when we encountered Purity, one now covering the start of the night, and one last patrol at the very end of the night. My newfound Beastmaster healing helped a little but it didn't replenish her stamina. She reassured me a little when she said that she would use the period before her next patrol to sleep.
Despite those worries stewing in the back of my mind and despite the fact that I need to remain vigilant, I was bored. Terminally bored. Nothing was happening. The streets were desperately empty of people, not even a tagger. There was no sign of any gang activity. And I had the bad feeling that this was the calm before the storm.
Was I becoming too accustomed to always having something happen during my patrol? Was I becoming an adrenaline junkie? I have never been very active, preferring to spend my time reading and playing video games. Only doing sport to keep in shape, I started on Akemi's insistence. Nobody that knew me in my civilian life, as few as they may be, would recognize me now. Hell, I was currently riding a dragon bat in the middle of the night while actively looking for crime in progress. if it hadn't happened to me I wouldn't believe it.
Knowing that it was useless to dwell on that, I thought again about the only event of note that happened this evening. At the tail end of the previous patrol, headed by Armsmaster. A warehouse was attacked by Squealer and a few Merchant thugs using a big armored truck. They smashed through a wall revealing it to be an Empire drug house.
The attack was conducted lightning-fast, less than five minutes from start to finish. They were gone before either the Empire or the hero could intervene, taking all the drugs with them of course. And leaving behind a few unconscious E88 gangsters and workers.
It was an unusual level of activity for the Merchant, they normally avoid direct confrontation. Of course, the gang of drug dealers could just be using the current tension to their advantage still we would be keeping an eye on them once the situation with the Empire was resolved.
There was also the question of how they obtained that information. Did they have a plant in the Empire? Did Squealer manage to build a spy drone?
My musing was cut short when I felt a new power coalesce in my soul. Idly I examine it. Armored Creature allowed me to garb my partners in armor, as the name implies but also some miscellaneous equipment and even weapons for those that could wield them. The only limit was that I couldn't choose what to give them, the Menageries itself would determine it.
Still, this was another good power, it provided defense, offense, and utility. Finally, my mount would have saddles, stirrup, and even rein. So far my Rider skill help compensates but this opens a lot of options for acrobatic riding.
After warning him, I applied the power to Red. Armor appeared on him without any fanfare, one moment nothing the next he was fully kitted out. It was black, made of something resembling kevlar, covering its torso, its head, its arms, and its legs. In addition, the tip of his tail now sported a metallic spike, and the front edge of his wings, blades. Being the only one among my partners that came with a saddle by default that part didn't change.
It was badass as heck and he appears pleased with it.
An hour later the patrol ended with nothing to report. Miss Militia was pleased but she shared my sentiment that this was probably a prelude for something.
When we returned to the base the next group was just exiting to start their own patrol. It was composed of Dauntless, Assault, and Triumph. As was agreed during this morning's reunion I adjoined to them one of my partners, using Relay Summoning on Dauntless. In that case, it was Raptor, my second oldest partner. I gave him strict instructions to follow the command of my fellow heroes.
I also instructed the Greek-themed hero on my robotic partner's capabilities. While I was at it I used as many boosts on him as I could, namely Speed boost, Grant Movement for flight, the Clockwork variant, and with my new power a shiny chromed armor. With all that it would be able to challenge nearly all villainous parahumans in the Bay.
The group quickly departed after that but not before thanking me for my help.
Now that I was back on base, and not feeling tired, I need something to occupy the rest of the night. I started with an hour of meditation to visit the Mental realm. I want to meet my new partners.
Sombra turned out to be a mischievous and playful little thing, she enjoyed scaring me by jumping on my back out of nowhere and then running away to hide, just so she could do it again. I spent a little while playing with her before she agreed to just stop and talk. I was now well versed in explaining my unique situation and she accepted it readily.
After bidding her goodbye I visited Chandelle, the pseudo-dragon-cat proved very affectionate. Rubbing against me the whole time I was with her. Proudly, she demonstrated her power and I rewarded her with head scratches each time. She couldn't really purr like the cat she resembled but her soft growl was still nice. The puppy dog eyes she made as I was ready to leave convinced me to not leave her alone. Instead, I brought her to Mane realms. After a brief moment of hesitation, the two really hit it off and were soon playing together. I left them to it.
Once I returned to reality I decided to join Clank in the lab. He returned there immediately after our patrol to continue working on the Blaster. It was slow going but he was making good progress. I thanked him for his work.
For my part, I want to tinker a little. I look at my options trying to decide on a project. My formation with Miss J as a Mechanical Engineer would be complete in just a few minutes and I want to put it to good use.
