I approached the two celebrating girls, my little sister was recounting the fight even though it finished less than a minute ago and that Vista was there to see it.
After listening for a little bit I choose to intervene. "Personally I don't remember seeing you doing a backflip and launching Clockblocker fifty meters in the air and making him rebound on the ceiling. But points for creativity."
"Bah, you don't know what you're talking about. It's much more fun that way."
I shake my head at her exuberance. "Congratulations, you won. You have some good reactions at the end there. And you didn't even need to Digivolve."
She took on a bashful look. "It's was nothing, Clockboy isn't worth my time."
"Digivolve? What's that exactly? Aylamon mentioned it before but she wasn't very clear."
"We don't have time to go into all the details, the next match will start soon and it's your match. But you can think of it as a Changer power for Aylamon, only she needs my help to use it." A thought occurred to me at that point. "You remember the promise I made at the start of this tournament, a patrol and a ride on one of my partners?"
She nods confusedly. "Well, when transformed Aylamon is largely big enough to be ridden." I address my sister. "Would you be willing to team up with Vista?"
The response was immediate."Hell yeah, that would rock." She turns toward Vista. "You got to win, we'll make a great team." She paused for an instant. "Or I could win and ask for that myself?" She gave me a questioning glance and I nodded.
Vista smiled in turn. "If I wasn't motivated enough before, now I am." She turned toward the ring but paused mid-step. "But what does she look like? Her description was confusing."
Aylamon was about to reply but I stopped her by putting my hand on her mouth, resulting in a muffled and incomprehensible sound. "No, no little sister. I think we can keep that secret. Unless we get to use it in public before that it could make for a nice surprise."
Vista shook her head but smiled. "Very well, keep your secret."
Sergeant Blair was motioning for her to move so she hurried to the ring where Browbeat was already waiting.
Once both were in place the signal was given by the Sergeant immediately. But neither combatant moved, taking time to observe each other. I used the opportunity to look at the spectator, something I neglected to do so far.
It appears that Clockblocker and Kid Win support Browbeat, being positioned behind him. Scalpa was also with them. He may be carrying a small grudge for his previous loss.
Gallant was on Vista's side with Aylamon and Buoy, with Spike still on the latter's head of course. My little sister was chanting "Go Vista" repeatedly.
Olky was right next to Sergeant Blair, ready to intervene in case someone was wounded. He was taking his role of medic very seriously. Both were positioned at the edge of the ring in between the two supporting groups.
As for myself, I was trying to remain neutral and I was positioned on the opposite side of Sergeant Blair.
Of the other "persons" present, White and Red were sleeping slumped against each other near the wall, Zap was sulking in a corner but regularly throwing glances at Buoy in anticipation of their fight.
Seeing movements in the ring I refocussed on the combat. Browbeat made the first move, his appearance began to change. I expected more muscle, perhaps hardened skin but he chose to go in a different direction. His arms and legs began to lengthen, a substantial amount not quite doubled in length but not that far down. In addition, his fingers seem to fuse together, forming bony masses at the end of his arms. The resulting sight was a little unsettling, and I didn't quite understand the goal of that transformation. The answer came when Kid Win asked the same question to Clockblocker.
"I think that he is increasing the area that his body occupies because Vista can't affect an area where something living is present. It's not that much but it may help."
The Tinker nodded in understanding and I did too. That was very smart on the part of Browbeat. And Vista's scowl proved that she didn't like that trick.
In response the girl tried to strike at a distance with her baton by way of space warping, targeting the newly lengthened legs. While she succeeded in hitting her targets, Browbeat didn't visibly react to the hits. Lengthening his limbs made them tinier but seemingly not weaker.
Browbeat started to advance slowly but inexorably toward Vista, he didn't want to repeat Scalpa's error by running.
Vista wasn't out of tricks, with a visible effort the space inside the ring twisted into a pretzel. I was forced to turn my eyes away, I couldn't look in that direction without feeling some sort of pressure just behind my eyes. None of my enhanced senses appear to help. I wasn't alone in having trouble, everyone was looking away.
After a few seconds, I turn back toward the ring, the effect seeming to have settled. I winced a little but it was better, for a given definition of better. Browbeat was standing awkwardly with his eyes closed and holding his head in his hand, his silhouette was blurry around the edge.
The space around him was weird in a way I couldn't really describe, mostly because besides this strange blurriness it wasn't really visible to the naked eye. But my brain was still able to tell that something was wrong. Concentrating and zooming on the ground, I finally spotted that the pattern of tile wasn't right. It appears that Vista creates a circular area of space that was folded on itself.
Browbeat tentatively extends a hand. I saw it disappear in front of him and reappear behind him cut at the wrist. I resisted the urge to turn my head again. That was really freaky. Vista managed to create a ring of space all around her foe, where each point was linked to a point on the opposite side of the ring.
The youngest Ward wasn't moving a muscle, the concentration needed to maintain the effect appears to be considerable. I wondered how long she would be able to keep it active.
I wouldn't get an answer to that question because after Browbeat tried to open his eyes and promptly closed them again, while visibly resisting the urge to vomit. He lifted his hand and spoke up. "I give up! I can't do anything." The visual effect inside the circle must have been extreme for him to give up so fast.
Vista immediately dismissed the effect with a sigh of relief. I was pretty sure that she wouldn't have been able to hold the effect for much longer.
Sergeant Blair announced her as the winner and the spectator rushed to congratulate her, my little sister in the lead. She certainly deserved those praises, it was spectacular. Her Shaker 9 rating was definitely warranted.
As was moving to add my own praise one of my Minds spoke up.
Did you feel that?/Feel what?/That! It was really subtle but I'm sure the Menagerie triggered again./I think I felt it too./That's weird, it's much more obvious normally. You're sure?/Yep, I've checked, another minor power. At first glance, it looks like a second instance of Relay Summoning but it works differently. Instead of using a person as the reference point, it uses a point in space./So less flexibility but more robustness because you can't kill a place./ And both can work together, Anchored on one partner and Relay on him for a second partner.
That was interesting but it also made me notice something else. Since the big batch of creatures, the Menagerie only gave me powers. I wondered why. Was it some sort of cycle?

I'm very proud of that fight, I hope I didn't make Vista too strong but I didn't want to have her too weak either.
I am hoping to get a high level power to help are endurance as we still are a squishy human which is currently the greatest weakness we have. Or hope to get the choice to chose a summon that would help increase are defense.
For 600 points I'm confident enough to vote for creatures hoping for a high level one, personally want Amaterasu even if rolling a 1 on the Okami section is a long shot.
I named one in an earlier post as an example Amaterasu is 600 points she's small enough where she can be used street level but can definitely hit above her weight class if needed. There's also a ton of powerful Pokemon with the points we have that could easily be used in street level.
