Kyubey is obviously living inside of a nature documentary series.
Just look at this young witch, how she majestically rise out of her book and hunts her natural prey, the idiotic wannabe shounen protagonist.
[David Attenborough voice]
The newly born witch completes her metamorphosis and emerges from her seed. She begins to form a labyrinth, an elaborate nest that she will use to trap prey. The labyrinth also helps complete the witch's complex reproductive cycle. Larval witches, or meguca, will be lured into the labyrinth. The adult witch, acting on instinct, will aid the meguca in beginning their own metamorphosis.

I just realized something
Ash is a walpurgisnact
She's already eaten one witch and one magical girl and gained their powers, she's going to eat more witches,
She's an amalgum of multiple witches she's a walpurgisnact

So,... that's a thing...huh.

Mado-deer aside, do we know what's going on with Homura?
She hasn't shown up yet so I'm curious what's going on with her. I think a few people speculated that this story is set in a pre-time loop setting so she isn't a magical girl yet. But in that case, shouldn't she already be a student at Mitakihara Middle School?

My current headcanon is that she is busy waging a secret war against Oriko, who knows about Ashy through her visions and sees her as a way to get rid of Walpurgisnacht, prevent Madoka turning into a witch by subsuming her and avoiding a direct fight against Homura.
All Oriko has to do is keep Homura too distracted to learn about Ashy, instead of trying to manipulate Kyubey or killing Madoka.

Would even fit with Mami getting into trouble several times during her hunt for Ashy. I doubt she would run into several Witches during one night, but if another magical girl distracts her and every meeting could lead to a fight...

It's possible that she has no clue that any of this is happening. I am reasonably certain that this timeline has no precedent.

Homura was mentioned just once.
<Mami-san! Madoka! Transfer Student?! Somebody, anybody, help!>
From this, we can say that Homura is currently a transfer student at Mitakihara, and that Sayaka believes she can solve a witch problem. Furthermore, Sayaka seems to consider being rescued by Homura somewhat less favorable than being rescued by Mami or Madoka.

In conclusion, Sayaka knows Homura as "that oddly memorable classmate who I don't really trust but may be able to help me". So... we have reason to believe that Homura has been looping as a magical girl for a while now, but I don't want to jump to conclusions with minimal evidence. At the very least, Homura should know about witches and magical girls at this point.

Normally if Sayaka is a magical girl then she should have already gotten a warning from Homura to not become one.

In all likelihood, yes. Homura has failed to befriend Sayaka at this point, which suggests that she was already driven to cynicism by her inability to convince everyone that contracting is bad. So we don't know if Homura has gone full Determinator yet, but she should be witchbombed by now.

Is Ashtaroth a Walpurgus? Maybe she could be by eating enough witches. Hope she doesn't eat enough that her witchstincts take over fully and she Walpurgis out.

Alright, so. The update as it stands is very, very close to done. However, it's also currently sitting at about 6500 words, which is more than I envisioned this fic ever containing in a single post. It feels like it's going to kind of drag if I post it all at once, so I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up splitting it into two. Unfortunately, I'm really not quite sure where to do that (despite thinking it over for a while), and I'd kind of like some feedback on the sequence at large before posting anyways. Which I suppose means it's once again time to ask if anyone would like to serve as a beta reader? Also sort of an advisor in this case I suppose, but... yeah.

I'm prepared to beta, if you want me to. What angle do you want me coming at this from? Just spelling/grammar? Something more in-depth?

I can throw my hat into the beta-ring as well. More generally, when it comes to chapter length, I think where the chapter breaks is more important than the actual length. Some fics stick to 2k chapters. Some fics stick to 20k. Most people only notice a chapter's length when it's over!

...why do I never expect as many beta offers as I actually receive? ^_^; I've sent a PM/conversation to the people I chose, which to be honest was pretty much done at random. Thanks to everyone who offered!

Well I can help with word choice and grammar but that's about it
I'm encyclopedic but I'm not good at making stories making sense of lore and creating a coherent whole yes otherwise no

As someone who is used to reading 10K word updates, I can tell you that a 6500 word update is definitely not too long to post at once.

And not a moment too soon. Happy Halloween!

Even better! I look forward to it.

Oh. Hm. Sadly, literature is definitely not my forte, despite my way with words.

Because lots of us are willing to make corrections to a draft if it means we get to read a juicy chapter. I think you underestimate your popularity here.
