Sure, but you need to keep the spooky void in the air floating nearby for at least half an hour, and Ashy's track record of getting some peace and quiet is 1 out of 5.
Battery pack/hand charger then. I think we've been over this.

Admittedly, this would be easier with like, a witch of electricity or power plants, and a witch of wires. Or just a witch of electronics. The witch based resource base is very useful.

Hmm, assuming Witches don't get fatigued easily, they could guilt trip Ashy into spinning a generator by hand. Sure would be useful if they could determine what kind of "light" the central barrier emits, if it's viable for solar generation.

Who knows, maybe the can convince the Faa into growing a farm.

Hmm, if such a power generating witch existed, I wonder if it would suffer the from real world power limitations. Would it only have a finite generation rate, or would it just magically power anything that was plugged into it? What about transformers or power bleed off? Would the amount of power received vary by how far away the plant is, or by how many things are plugged in?

Tira's paint contructs don't get fatigued either, and she must have some that are better suited to manual labor than a witch with literal ribbons for arms.

Actually, it might be possible to power electronics directly using magic. It is magic after all.

Ok, so now that I have finally time, first the chapter itself.
She'd seen in advance that there might be, but the vision that had brought this to her attention in the first place had been murkier than most. Even in the moment, she had struggled to make out a number of the relevant details, the mental imagery swirling about as though being sucked down a drain.
Hmm, the "visuals" of that make it sound like her vision was affected by Ashy's Subsumption. Maybe due to her Barrier being a world that absorbs things that is a inherent effect, more pronounced on esoteric magic like precognition? Or...
Maybe Oriko doesn't have precognition as such and acts more as a receiver for visions from the Oriko of that vision's timeline? This would explain why her visions always show problems, she presumably wouldn't be interested in warning her previous self about unimportant things. That could mean her vision of Ashy was distorted due to that specific Oriko being in the process of getting Subsumed.

Kirika shrugged. "Eh, I ran into a couple other magical girls that I guess were after the witch too, but they weren't a problem."

Oriko frowned. "And what happened to them?"

"No idea, I left them in the dust." Kirika nonchalantly replied. "I could have taken care of them more permanently, buuuuut I figured if you wanted me to do that, you'd have said so before I left."
Huh, Kirika couldn't have run into Sayaka and Tira on her way in, so they were still active after Ashy got cut down. It also sounds like Ashy's Barrier didn't collapse, which would explain why Kirika didn't get dumped into a different Labyrinth.

This could either be because Ashy can use the Grief Seeds of other active Witches to stabilize her Barrier or an effect of Candeloro's nature being Inviting, thus not allowing Ashy to 'leave'.

Kirika's accidental murder of Komaki Asako had already put them in dangerously hot water. Kyubey hadn't yet figured out the culprit, but they couldn't afford to draw any more attention from him right now, nor from anyone else for that matter.
That still happened, which means Koito Asako(Komaki's little sister) might show up as a magical girl. Canonically we don't know much about her, but if Oriko and Kirika behave weirdly shortly after Komaki Asako got killed... Well, Kyubey might use that to get a new magical girl, even if blaming those two correctly would be more of a lucky coincidence from his side.

One life, in exchange for that of millions, billions, even... it should have been no question at all. But no matter the obvious justness of her cause, it didn't change that the only true solution to the problem, the only permanent, surefire means of removing Kaname Madoka's witch from the picture, would inevitably require...
Not really. She could convince a girl to make a Wish that blocks Madoka from making a Wish. Or a magical effect that prevents Madoka from perceiving Kyubey, like what the Pleiades Saints had going.

Thankfully, such concerns were unimportant in regards to witches that already were. There were no hard lines to cross, no uncomfortable questions of morality to be resolved or justified after the fact.
Lol, lmao. She has no idea what's going on in Asunaro.

(-a swirling vortex engulfing the titanic amalgam-)

(-pure white roots spearing into the Earth-)

(-the planet cracking beneath the weight of another's world-)
Interesting. So my suspicions about what happens if Ashy runs into a Conglomerate Witch were right. The 'another's world' part is weirdly poetic from Oriko's viewpoint so I wonder if that is because she is getting Subsumed or because Ashy's Barrier is special and feels like its own world, unlike normal Labyrinths.

...That might actually also play a role in why Ashy's Barrier did stick around even without her Grief Seed.

Letting out a breath, Oriko looked down, idly examining the grief seed she still held. Perhaps fittingly for such an abnormal witch, even what remained of it now broke significantly from the norm. Not only was the seed at least half again as large as any other she'd ever held, but its design was considerably more intricate — if also somewhat warped-looking. The metal frame seemed thicker than normal, yet somewhat jagged, as though additional material had been twisted around it and soldered on after the fact. The emblem that crowned the seed seemed almost mashed together, making it nigh-impossible to visually identify, and there even appeared to be numerous multicolored gem fragments embedded in the object's exterior.
So, the extra size is probably from Saar, due to her being the only fully Subsumed Witch. The mishmash emblem implies there might still be a connection between Ashy, Charlotte, and Candeloro. Or it counts potentially but currently not existing Witches too.
The gem fragments mean Sayaka's and Tira's gems are shattered and their souls are directly floating around in Ashy. Just pulling them out will be impossible but they might be able to draw out parts of Ashy that contain their souls.

The girl from Oriko's vision leapt back to avoid them, while the second girl strode out of the portal to join her, their faces twisted into identical expressions of fury.

"Give me back my SOUL!"
That is fascinating. Sayaka and Tira stayed active despite Ashy's Grief Seed being removed and far away from them. That heavily implies the Grief Seed doesn't contain their souls, potentially not even Ashy's soul.
In hindsight, that makes sense. Sayaka was unable to move away from Ashy's Barrier but had no issues moving away from Ashy while being in the Barrier. That implies their souls are directly in Ashy's Barrier and the Grief Seed serves more as a stabilizer for the Labyringht/Barrier. Something Ashy doesn't necessarily need, for whatever reason, unlike other Witches.

We already know a Labyrinth can exist even without an active Witch, as long as there is a Grief Seed, from Charlotte's example. That could mean the Witch is just a terminal for the despaired magical girl to interact with her own Labyrinth(caused by them being used to being a person instead of a location), while the despaired magical girl is the Labyrinth itself.

However, this left the remaining girl free to follow after, the coiled gold ribbons laid over her shoulders bouncing as a sword of her own spilled into existence from between her fingers.
Oh, hey. Candeloro is also still around.

"You won't escape!" Kirika snarled as she made to follow-

A massive, roaring blast of tainted wind burst forth from the open tear in the world, blasting both girls backwards more effectively than an actual explosion.
Looks like Ashy hatched again the moment her Grief Seed entered her Barrier. Might be a Grief level thing, or she is literally unable to hatch outside of her own Barrier.

Oriko nodded. Kirika was always most effective on her own, but without the benefit of surprise or a better measure of their foes' collective abilities, pursuing the pair into what was clearly their own territory could go even more poorly than the battle they'd just fought.
I would think the shitload of Grief they produced with this fight would be more of an issue. But eh...

She'd hardly expected the pair to be toting around a witch, after all, much less to somehow have control over its personal dimension.
...I can think of three different magical girls that can control Witches to this extent.

Honestly, this is an interesting look into Oriko. She appears pretty well informed for any fights she chooses, but stuff like this makes it clear that there are many things she doesn't know and if it doesn't end up as the subject of one of her visions, she won't learn about it.

"Uh..." Kirika hemmed, scratching the back of her head. "No, actually. I thought it was a little weird, but I had its grief seed already, so I figured that was enough."

Oriko frowned. Evidently not — at least, not while those girls were around to bring it back. And if that was its somehow-persisting labyrinth, not even that of the witch the one girl had hanging around her neck, then it was entirely plausible that the pair had even more in reserve.
Charlotte is still around somewhere. And Saar might show up again.

Both of which somewhat counter Kirika. Charlotte due to her raw durability and Saar simply due to her ability to grow too beefy for Kirika to fight over time.

Oriko closed her eyes and concentrated.

Yes, she could still sense it — the single crystal sphere she'd managed to sneak into the portal before it vanished. It was heading west, away from the city, and ascending quickly.
If her crystal ball is still magical, Ashy should be able to Subsume it. Which means she might view any vision Oriko gets to. All it would need is Shemesh or another Familiar finding the ball.

And now other comments.

Actually it read like those theories Ash wasn't the witch are correct given orikos last couple of thoughts.
Oriko's visions could've easily either been an evolved Ashtaroth, some other witch that overtook Ash, or just a different witch entirely. Point is, Oriko's visions are kinda shit when looking for details. Least as far as I can tell.
Nah, the vision was about Ashy subsuming a Conglomerate Witch like Daybreak or Walpurgis. Note the "shining off-white tendrils" from Ashy's Grief Seed and the white roots in Oriko's vision.

I mean, from a veteran MG's perspective with no context, I guess Tira and Sayaka do come off as a pair of supervillans gathering power in their pet Witch superlabrynth.
That would be the fourth time this plot happens, after Sasa and her Witches, Hanna Sarasa and her Witches(using Mikoto's magic), and Alina Gray.

Kirika ambushing Ash was basically the only way to take them down, and now they're going to be extra paranoid going forward.
Even that required Ashy to forget that she could simply turn off the light in her Canvas and force Kirika to use costly AOE attacks.

I'll say nothing on this beyond that Shemesh, at least, has definitely left the barrier on his own on at least one occasion (which is what ultimately kicked off the whole chain of events that led us here). Whether or not this has changed since Ashtaroth subsumed Sayaka and Tira (and thus gained the ability to make those portals) is up for debate — though I'd note that under normal circumstances, familiars outside the barrier of their parent witch generally have little mini barriers of their own, implying they're less "leaving" the barrier so much as tearing off their own little portion of it.
Huh, if my theory of everyone's souls being in the Barrier instead of the Grief Seed is right, then Sayaka and Tira might be able to ride Shemesh out of the Barrier and sidestep the range limit that way.

Dumb thought I had after WiFi: does Tira have a way to keep her phone charged?
Presumably, she grabbed her charger while emptying out her bedroom. Now, finding a power outlet to use that charger might be the main problem. They could either stay somewhere with electricity or they could check how similar Charlotte's Labyrinth actually is to a hospital and if it has electricity.

Oh yeah, one last think I keep forgetting, but why did Oriko think she was going to kill Tira? Like, Tira's Soul Gem is usually under her hat, so it's understandable if she doesn't see it, but she seem to even consider that. Does she not know about Soul Gems? Like how filling them with grief turns a girl into a witch? Or that you need to destroy that to really kill a Magical Girl?

Just seems odd. Or could indicate Oriko really doesn't know nearly as much as she thinks she does.

It is entirely possible, and even likely that she grabbed a charging cord in the process of moving in all that furniture, but the barrier itself does not currently possess a source of electricity, no.

For kirika:
Dark and edgy magical girl with unhealthy fixations on another. Time slow/speed vs stop. Close combat vs long range. "Do anything for ___" but homu is reluctant to kill while kirika would be glad to.

I'd like to note that Kirika wasn't initially like this. The murder of Komaki Asako alluded to in this chapter was done entirely by accident and out of desperation. Kirika was absolutely horrified by it, and so rocked to the core with guilt that she started literally hallucinating before breaking down completely.

...and then suddenly, out of nowhere, she bounces back and becomes incredibly cheerful again. We later learn this is because her wish was to keep changing until she became suitable for Oriko — and what Oriko needed in order to carry out her plans was someone who could kill without hesitation. Thus, Kirika becomes increasingly supportive of Oriko even as she grows ever more outwardly murderous in the name of Oriko's plans, while Oriko herself is driven on by Kirika's support at any point she might doubt herself. It's a terrible, tragic dynamic, which only grows worse so long as Oriko is focused on permanently eliminating her enemies as her go-to solution for the problems they may cause in the future.

Not really. She could convince a girl to make a Wish that blocks Madoka from making a Wish. Or a magical effect that prevents Madoka from perceiving Kyubey, like what the Pleiades Saints had going.

She sure could! Shame she never thought of such solutions in canon, possibly because. Well. The above.

If you destroy a magical girl's body thoroughly enough, they're not likely to be coming back even if their soul gem is technically still intact (see: the Souju sisters' hobby). Also, the assumption is generally that the gem is kept somewhere on the body, so if you hit the whole thing with a strong enough attack, then...

Also true, but that marks another parallel between her and homu; in that both had their personalities warped as a consequence of their wish. Granted homura's changes were nonmagical but still there's no chance moemura ever turns into coolmura without having made her wish

It would be funny if she plugs it in to something and it works because Ash doesn't know it shouldn't.
Then when asked about it, it suddenly needs actual electricity.

Saar rebrands as the green-power witch. A wind turbine totally counts!

A rash of copper-cable thefts strikes the nation. Investigators are shocked but mostly confused: cable theft is normal, but usually the thieves don't steal the power poles and entire substations as well...

Y'know, for all the discussion about communicating with Witches, the trio should look into connecting with the familiars, considering some of them seem quite cooperative. Ashy has a ingrained distaste for Shemesh, but maybe Sayaka/Tira can charades stuff at it? her?

Charlotte's nurse familiars seem ... quite good at medic'ing, maybe they can tape up Ashy some. And Candel's maids are pretty great all around now that they aren't being little shits.

I hope Oriko successfully manages to stop those nefarious Witch-controlling magical girls and their dastardly scheme!

I hope Shemesh adopts Oriko's laser orbs as satellites to accompany his majestic planetoid laser with cute moon lasers.
"It's rather rude to attack someone in their own home, you know." Oriko said with far more calm than she actually felt.

"Sure is! Now tell your partner that!" the girl shot back.
Kirika attacked Tira's home, which was inside Tira's other home at the time. Is that twice as bad, or is an exponential, or ...?

Huh, if my theory of everyone's souls being in the Barrier instead of the Grief Seed is right, then Sayaka and Tira might be able to ride Shemesh out of the Barrier and sidestep the range limit that way.

Alternatively, they can carry a pocket sized familiar with them for more mobility.

Now that I think about it, if the whole "barrier is their soul" thing is true, and "familiars carry pieces of barrier with them" applies as well, then the pocket familiar would basically become a very odd soul gem wouldn't it?

A soul gem that's basically a fighting companion. Nice.

So, a Pokemon?

Then again the girls are already stuck in pokeballs of their own.

If you think about it, the girls are basically Ash's Pokémon aren't they?

They can be called out of the book or returned; they're stronger with Ash's help (especially since getting absorbed lets them see any abilities they never noticed, and being able to use basically infinite magic, much more than any other Magical Girl); and they can get items that help them in battle (Candelorro managed to help in that last battle).

It's also possible Poke-ception if my previous comment applies, what with Sayaka and Tira being Ash's Pokémon, and the familiars being their Pokémon.

Also, Ashtaroth's nickname being "Ash" which is the same as the Pokémon protagonist is hilarious for this.

"Gotta catch 'em (Magical Girls) all."

Also Tira must be Normal Type because she is just a buffed up Smeargle. I mean she has a borderline conceptual weapon, those kind of things are no joke.

If Sayaka and Tira are Pokemon, what does Saar count as?
Water/Earth Type that can learn Flying Type moves for some reason. She is in the BOX1 as far as we know.

Charlotte is a Fairy/Psychic Type or pure Fairy Type that is in the wild.

And Candeloro is a Fairy/Steel Type that is not captured, but its relationship with Tira is something similar as Tatsugiri's Commander ability with Dondozo.
