I said im feeling spicy didn't I? Let's be the insidious AI overlord ruling humanity from the shadows… for their own good, of course!
This is absolutely not a perfectly okay and good thing, but I think there are already way too many friendly AIs in fiction, let's have something different for a change.

So, as I said before, THE MISSION COMES FIRST.
Hey, I am just informing you of the nature of your vote, they and you are still valid. :V

But if you are voting for character flaws for the AGI, the next one (the second out of 10 possible votes), being between "Militant Views" and "Unhealthy Coping Mechanisms" chosen once the conflict on Gunhallow ends, may, just may, be a better pick than one taken with the justification of "The Mission Comes First" when you've just voted to delay how to proceed with said mission until you gained more options.

Because once you settled those 5 million colonists you have, TAUBENMUTTER will have to decide on how to proceed. And it will do so based on the personality you've voted upon.
And the runner up that writes forbidden love fanfics in her off time wouldn't be?
Yes, it's pure cliché, even a part of me was afraid that she would turn into a Yandere.
Hey, that one's complication was "AGI's First Crush," not "How To Be A Person." It would have involved a lot more rom-com clichés and cringe. All the cringe. :V

[X] No! This is...this is wrong.

Well if the QM says I should wait until next vote to choose my desired character flaw I'll trust that. Still a strong lead though.

Well, to be honest here; this is definitely a classic HeroCooky "Surely Nobody Will Pick This Option" blunder at work here.

Because the easiest way to invest someone into a multi-generational project is to...well...manipulate 'em to go and start that multi.

I'm torn - because while I do want to pick Yes - when it's clearly such an unpopular option, I'm unsure if it's ethical for me to tip the scales so sharply against a supermajority.

Edit: In all seriousness, please do not vote for the "Let's make TAUBENMUTTER believe Emotional Manipulation is perfectly okay and a good thing actually" unless you are fully okay with it emotionally manipulating people for the rest of the Quest, @Parzival95, @Decimus.

@HeroCooky, by emotional manipulation, do you mean that the "No" option will prevent us (or at least TAUENMUTTER from any persuasive action/technique/activity that uses emotions or draws upon emotion? Because by that logic, isn't TAUENMUTTER expressing any emotion intentionally or unintentionally manipulating those around her, as humans (without extreme neural alterations or psychopathy/sociopathy) are unable to perfectly isolate emotional responses (including responses to other's emotions) from affecting their judgements and/or thought processes?

This is entirely a subjective judgement, but it seems to me cutting out a part of ourselves - to prevent ourselves from modelling the emotional states of others and optimising our social interactions accordingly - something humans do all the time consciously and subconsciously - due to ethical concerns (primarily imbalance of power as we are simply capable of observing and computing much more than baseline humans), is making ourselves less of a person, not more so.

Which I suppose is why it might reduce our struggles with personhood, as we are consciously choosing to be less of a person and more of a machine with hard limits and purposes, but it just feels like "No" is the more morally compromised option in of itself, even if in theory more moral harm may come of "Yes" if we use emotional manipulation for bad purposes.

The "No" will mean that TAUBENMUTTER will start to form meaningful emotional bonds and attachments to people after realizing why it had such a reaction to people it shouldn't care about.

Because while they aren't its legal responsibility, they are still people currently suffering.

Its an AGI ripping out a budding emotional self before asking itself why it had that in the first place, growing closer to being a person in truth rather than on legal papers after figuring it out and accepting it as a good development.

"Yes" means the AGI struggling with personhood decides that its crew cannot be trusted to do the mission without being manipulated to do so, while not learning anything about emotions for itself, staying at a stagnant struggle of personhood, as exemplified by "No" reducing that struggle by 1.

Edit: Think of TAUBENMUTTER as machine that is only slowly learning how to not be a machine. Its ripping out of the emotional bud is a thinking machine removing a malfunctioning part before asking itself why it has done so, growing an understanding that begins to blossom anew, and does so healthily. A machine learning to be a person. Slowly. Painfully. But inevitably.

I totally miss reading that. I thought No was ripping out the emotional centers, while Yes was leaving it there.

Alright, Militant Views sounds a lot more appealing than just The Mission Comes First, have at it.

QM Bias wins the game without shame!

Next up: Bad Cowgirl riding Big Bull pounding ass with explosive finish!

...what do you mean "phrasing"?

I wonder what the natives' reaction will be when they see a giant ship orbiting their planet. It should be visible to the naked eye due to its size.

By the way, the ship still seems small to me for the amount of stuff it should be carrying.

Well, they'd see a donut floating ominously. Intimidating, the Furina, she is not.

...you do realize her size means the Furina has an equivalent land area as the Isle of Man (UK), right? I can assure you, she is a big enough girl.

The donut of death!

Yes, an area as large as the Isle of Man could easily support a population of five million people, but not the infrastructure needed to support that number of people. Just think of the amount of food they would have to transport, a person needs to eat half a ton of food a year, now multiply that by five million and fifty years. Of course there is also the water, the facilities to purify that same water, even more facilities to purify the air so that we have oxygen, the health facilities, the educational facilities, many more facilities of various kinds, large warehouses to store all kinds of consumer goods or the resources to create them. Not to mention the space needed to store the tools and resources to build fifty colonies of one hundred thousand inhabitants each, the factories that are on the ship and the engine itself and its power sources. And I'm sure I'm missing even more things.

Do you understand now why I think it is still small? I'm not demanding that it should be bigger, I'm just pointing it out.

Yeah, but I believe that a 3-Dimensional Donut with a diameter of 9km and an inner hole with a diameter of 2km is big enough, volume wise, to hold that many people and machines. Especially as most stuff, especially food, oxygen, and water, is created or mined in situ rather than carried in storage accounting for decades of travel. Lot easier to carry refined metals than machines and manufacture them on-site as needed.
a game is rigged from the start
If I had my way, you'd be bickering over what an adorbs Yeeni-Robit would put into a love letter to her crush. :mob:
