Remember the part where I was like, "Oh, we might send a few preachers to begin doing stuff" and @HeroCooky pointed out that with a three-action investment we can send entire huge armies of experts and trained, hardened revolutionaries?

And yeah, we can do this.

We are a polity of 25 billion people going up against double or triple digit trillions on a single world

I don't think you're grasping the sheer size mismatch here. We could conscript every man, woman, and child in the Federation, drop them in, and they'd be lost--presumed eaten by the locals--before getting out of the Underhive.

We may have the sharpest and sturdiest toothpick ever forged. Doesn't let you kill an Elephant with it. Chaos can ignore the logistics of taking a Hive because the very thing that makes a Hive nigh impossible to seize using Realistic Methods, is something they can use to effectively magic up Infinite Actions to seize it with. We don't have that.

I never argued "It's the wrong thing to do", It's absolutely a nice thing to do. I argued in favor of it being a black hole that devours hope and spits out misery, and that we do not physically possess enough hope to even begin to make that choke.

See. That's the thing that makes it frustrating. The QM has confirmed that this isn't fucking happening!

Also you got the number disparity wrong, lol. The QM actively told you this as well when he said that he put the disparity higher than it was.

Uuh, just as a quick fact check on that number, I did an "oopsie-doodie" by writing x400 instead of x40. Voxx Primus has around 700 Billion people. Not 4 Trillion.

:sour:

You can make a Write-In to have Choirs assigned to that Class. As your Choirs get more Songs and Melodies, the more versatile they'll be.

I am hereby informing you that I am stealing this. Do not resist.

To quote it, by the way, since you missed it!

It's still much bigger than us, to be clear! But talking about Trillions is factually inaccurate.

I guess I'm still not convinced of how effective this is going to be.

The entire existence of Hive Worlds breaks down if you try to apply any degree of actual thought to the matter instead of "MOST CRUEL REGIME IMAGINABLE". Double or triple digit trillions doesn't feel like something any amount of Numbers can flip in its favor, especially if the same level of "We're willing to kill ourselves and our most loved things to mildly inconvenience anyone who's Alignment Differs From Mine" remains true here, and unlike Chaos, we can't just get Infinite Actions as long as we can get a seed cult started and enough toughs to enforce the magus' will.

EDIT: Yeah, I did miss that in the crush.

Meh, it's just hard to feel positive about that pit of misery.

It's not trillions.

[X] Plan: Opportunity Knocks

[x] Plan: We are patient; let them hold the wealth we shall get their souls
-[x] Federation is willing to let the Alliance control Fixxy and Tom, but the Federation shall own every other celestial body in the Yivv system.
-[x] In exchange, Alliance shall allow free passage of our missionaries in all of their territories
-[x] Alliance will also give us 33% of auramine production (without tariffs or unfair markups)
-[x] Create an Official Donation Drive for the affected people of Sub-Sector 621. (No Action Cost)

[X] Plan: Choir and Save An Action
-[X] Federation will concede Yivv system and offer Choirs to train and build up the Shipwrights' psyker institution (namely teaching them navigation) in exchange for the following concessions.
--[X] Try to bargain down the number of Choirs involved in the teaching mission to 10.
--[X] Federation gains access to enough Arumite for study and research.
--[X] Preaching rights
--[X] Cultural Exchange between the Federation and the Alliance.
-[X] Federation withdraws the offer to directly assist in reconstruction.
-[X] Create an Official Donation Drive for the affected people of Sub-Sector 621. (No Action Cost)

The Voxx thing can be viewed a few different ways.

The first way is that we're trying to take it for ourselves. Which... might happen? The way that happens is the way we're doing it. By converting the billions of people who live there to our side with covert drops of expert missionaries equipped to make the underhive livable and then convert upwards from there. We'll spend an action on it every three or four turns and in fifteen or sixteen turns maybe it'll just flip.

More likely is that van Zandt spends a couple of actions suppressing the unrest and the hive doesn't flip. But then they're not fighting us, and they lose a lot of the production capacity of the hive world. This infiltration is probably far more effective an action sink than anything else we could do to prepare to fight van Zandt. It's the sort of thing that means they have fewer fleets in ten turns when we actually fight them.

The one thing I'm convinced won't happen is nothing. Hive Worlds are vulnerable to infiltration, and we're doing it right. Our infiltration is going to do something, even if all it does is aggravate the imperial wannabies and distract them. Or maybe not! They might be busy frantically holding off an orcish horde on the other side of their space and can't spare anything to supress Voxx.
