Any name that we chose is going to have a starting bias for the reason that all anybody knows is war. It would then be our job to clear those names through hard work and perseverance in the path that they are going to follow.
We can even preach the name as the other face of the coin for the name Templar. The point being that we protect and safeguard those who are in need of aid while they kill and destroy everything in their path.
Or something like that.

But in unverse no one remembers the original templars. They associate Templars with violent crusades, exterminations, purges and religious extremism.

We don't really know much about what kinda government Humanity had before the Age of Strife. Could have been one big Empire, a Federation not too dissimilar from Star Trek, or several different polities. Not much info to go off of.
