HeroCooky, did you roll for who got what in the scramble for territory or did you specifically stop us from gaining the entry/exit subsectors to make the Dutchy and the Unfallen share a border and stop us from leaving the Sector?
World after world, system after system, one Sub-Sector falls after the other under the concentrated might of the Federation and the Duchy are now free to slaughter all enslaved puppets of Rotting Ruin that do not cast down their arms, each side eager to claim as much space as they can, though for different reasons.
The Glimmering Federation seeks Sub-Sectors to exploit and colonize, already fleets with billions setting out to settle the worlds cleansed and cleaned from both hostile capacity and corruption running deep, trying to ensure that its future will be safely held in the hands of a polity growing day by day in all aspects on the backs of new conquests.
The Van Zandt Free Duchy requires these planets and worlds to recuperate its losses in materials and wealth, war a costly business that even its deep coffers and war-geared society cannot bear for so long at such a degree, with servitors and serfs already setting up extraction colonies and exploitation stations wherever the frontlines moving away permit their existence and investment to pay off within a reasonable timeframe.
Regardless of the reasons and the difficulties each side will have in their own ways, Fleets and Armies soon met in united purpose, and the new borders between the Federation and Duchy born by conquest were swiftly left abandoned in favor of striking deeper into Maggot territory, though not without gifts and well-wishes exchanged between each side.
Yet, as they do, and the Maggot falls before both and Duelists fall before one, with their last feeble attempt at glorious combat cut short with brutal tricks and vicious artillery casting death over ranks before their rituals can turn the tide, and as both sides turn from wholesale extermination of soldiers to mercilessly rooting out rebellion and restive corruption, another player enters the board officially.
A fleet of automated ships of gothic opulence closes ranks side by side with winged ships of blessed white, sharpest blacks, and holiest of blues, targeting sensors casting wide nets over the approaching ships of organic matter so reminiscent of the vessels of the Irrita yet so unlike them, their organic nature melding seamlessly into the technological aspects. Transmissions are sent to officially open dialogue...
The ships identify themselves to be of the "Unfallen," particularly of the "Pruton Communality," declaring to the gathered fleets that they do not care about the existence of the Duchy and Federation, as neither was "of sufficient corruption to bother exterminating for the one, and of the wrong type of to cleanse for the other" in the words of the leading Third Admiral Frumculv.
Both the Duchy and Federation Admirals try to open communications and dialogue regardless, seeking some way to conduct diplomacy but are rebuffed and instead given to understand that the Unfallen will consider any incursion into their held territories as denoted by maps they shall send as a declaration of war.
With little to go on and less urge to start a war with people who seem unwilling to fire first, both Admirals decide to return to their duties and let the higher-ups deal with this problem.
Yet, said "Higher Ups" were already dealing with another problem; that of the Choirs lent to the Duchy. Technically, with the Maggot conquered, they weren't needed and could be returned to the Federation, yet there was an argument to be made to allow them to help purify the worlds conquered before they did so. Discussions were held, and a decision was reached.
