[X] Plan Courier and Research

Seems like a safe choice to me, which for now is the smart thing to do

[X] Plan Courier and Utility

so I've been thinking about this before, but in universe how is it that our shipyard has been operating with what looks like no access to basic ship materials for several generations? like, this is a family business we must have had some kind of supply for hull plating and engines atleast.

Your company mostly repaired ships and made some custom jobs. You know plenty but don't have any patents or such things. So you need to either buy the parts or develop them yourself. Think it like this, any engineer properly knows how to build an engine for a car or at least in theory. That doesn't mean that he will make a good engine or one that works in its first go.

The personnel in your company are professionals, they just never develop something by themselves, the costumers had the plans and told you "built this ship!" or "mod this ship according to this!".

I get that it'd really suck to fall to finish the courier, but we need 21 points on a d100. Doubling up is a huge waste of resources

Basically using the 1 budget from not doubling up to combine the other 2 plans

that really doesn't answer my question, a mechanic still needs a supply of parts to repair ships with and the same is true if we were being contracted to build other companies ships. so where were we getting these parts from before, and why has that supply stopped now

There wasn't any stop in the supply chain. You still have your contacts and such on the market. The difference is usage.

Before you order single parts for special costume jobs or parts for replacements in repairs. That is a completely different way of usage and numbers. Now you plan to build your own ships. That means you need 1. the allowance of the producer to use his parts in your own design and 2. you need much more than before.

You don't only ask for the cost if you wish to buy x number of, say, hyperdrive but also to use them in your own design, profit of it and buy them in large numbers.

Most companies, don't care if you use small numbers of parts in some odd costume build. But if you go along and say, build one thousand of the same build, they want a share of the profit.

You still can do the costume job and don't go too much hassle, but if you wish to produce large numbers of your own designs you need to have contracts that cover your ass. Or they will take you apart in court.

In addition in RL having contracts for supplying a part tends to be cheaper then just ordering as companies tend to be willing to offer discounts for guaranteed income.

Do you know what I would like to build? Ships made from battlestar galactica deadlock. Just not with railguns but with lasers and turbolasers.

Anything in particular? Most of them can relatively easy be made in Star Wars if you swap out the weapons. It isn't anything groundbreaking but they could be used as a visual reference.

I was thinking mainly about this one.

It only has two guns in the back and one in the front below, but that can be changed.
A Corvette
a frigate
A (Light) Carrier
A cruiser (like a Dreadnaught-class heavy cruiser)
A battle carrier (like a venator only with more weapons)

I'd be okay with these as visual reference except for the Atlas-class. That completely exposed core and internal structure front and center is just begging for a torpedo to wreck the entire flight deck at least. In fairness, the Venator has a similar problem, but it at least has solid-looking bay doors that slide over the gap on top. Even if that part sticking out of the ceiling is an armoured shutter, it looks like it'd be pretty slow to open or close.

The Atlas-class is somewhat similar to the Imperial Escort Carrier. It would be needed to operate more in the classical way a carrier does and less like a battleship-carrier hybrid that is so cost-efficient when you make movies or series popular through the galaxy. Ideally you don't take it anywhere near a potential dangerous area or protected it closely by your heavy units.

That's also the reason why I called it a light carrier. You only bring a light carrier when you have a convoy to escort and not to a battle. And if you bring a light carrier to a battle then it is in the second... no third line back.

I'm currently playing deadlock and I noticed that the Adamant frigate has a hanger and a squadron of fighters. Just so it won't be forgotten.

The hanger is under the ship.
