I mean if it's for comedic effect that Mariner isn't believed I kinda get it, but realistically if she actually puts in a report about it (including about the current state of the Terran Empire/re: tech level and civil war) and also talks about Harry Kim (on the records as ensign aboard USS Voyager, a Sovereign-class starship), someone is going to notice. She'll at minimum get a visit from Starfleet Intelligence, possibly also Temporal Investigations regarding the Terran Empire.

To be honest losing Equinox and Voyager (Intrepid-class) qualify as deeply unfortunate, but they're smaller vessels that are meant to go out and do science in dangerous places. Losing three times the crew on board the most tactically advanced starship design in Starfleet without a trace must have Starfleet Command and Intelligence both frothing at the mouth for the security implications alone, let alone the more broad loss of investment.

I am certain you will hand the subject in a far more mature and interesting way that... wait a minute. We have two ships worth of Okampa. Uh oh.

Then he burst out laughing and sprang to his feet. "Well, mostly, we can work with kid!" he said, flinging his arm around Harry as he came around the desk, hauling him to his feet.

I totally forgot how loud a personality mirror Sisko is and that bit with him was a great reminder. Thank you, I could read it all in his voice.

She could also, if circumstances are dire enough, write to her dad.

ELOGIUM (0.1)
"I'm just...I just...I don't know what I'm doing with my life," Jenny said, her voice miserable as she lounged around beside Albert. Albert grunted, his fists punching at nothing in particular. He was working on his form - which meant drawing in his muscles, tightening his stance, shifting his center of gravity, and really working on the gentle arc, twist, and thrust of arm muscles and wrist and finally, where the boxing glove landed. He grunted again and again - punching. Punching. Punching.

Albert paused. "What do you mean, Jennifer?"

"Look at me..." Jennifer gestured to herself with a sigh.

"Oh! I see nothing but a fine young woman, with her whole life ahead of her!" Albert exclaimed.

"A young...I'm six thousand years old, Albert!" Jenny practically wailed.

"Six thousand? I'm near five million myself! Six thousand. Harrumph!" Albert harrumphed. "Really now, Jennifer-"

"But you're supposed to live for almost ninety million years. I've only got, what, a million? A million and a half? And I've only, what? Done one measly little uplift. I can't even span properly, I'm six thousand years old and I...and I...and I..." Her voice hitched. "I-I can't even branchiaaaaaaaaaate!" She put her hands over her face and started to sob openly.

"Oh honey!" Albert exclaimed. He started to take off his boxing gloves, hastily. "Oh my dear, oh good heavens. I didn't know you felt so strongly. What's wrong? This isn't just about Sidney, is it?"

Jenny curled up on herself, tucking her head against her own long, shimmering body. Then she sniffled and whimpered. "...she dumped me."

"Ohhh..." Albert whispered. "Well! I am thinking of giving her a piece of my mind then! Dumping my good friend Jennifer-"

"S-She said I was pathetic!" Jenny whimpered.

"Oh!" Albert fumed so hard he threatened to pop something. "Oh!" He sounded as if he was on the verge of saying something even more incendiary - but before he could, Jenny started to cry again.

"And she's r-r-riiiight! I'm pathetic!" She buried her face against Albert's bulk, sobbing into him powerfully. He enfolded her in his arms once more, drawing her in close and bathing her with the warmth of his body, while saying all the painfully useless things that a man of his generation and his spectral class was won't to say. Things like oh it will be all right and oh, Jennifer, you're not pathetic in the slightest and a few harrumphs. Jenny barely noticed as she cried into him. Over time, she started to run out of tears, and as she ran out of tears, she ran through every biting, cutting thing Sidney had said during their recriminations.

Worst of all?

"Oh that isn't the best place for such things, no," Albert said, as she told him how the fight had started.

"And all the Q were looking at us, and that mean one showed up in this outfit and asked if we wanted refreshments and Sidney said, sure, she would just love some refreshments, she still needs to eat."

"That absolute...I...I do believe I am going to have to say something quite ungentlemanly, this Sidney, she's never been any good, just a bad seed, a rotten apple, ruined to the core, a blackguard, a...a...a...a jackanape! Why if I didn't have to stay in this orbit, I'd go and show her what I think of her right now!" Albert exclaimed, his boxing gloves manifesting onto his knuckles. "I know it's not quite Marcus of Queensbury rules, but I'll show her what for! A jab there! And there!" He boxed space with his knuckles.

"No!" Jenny exclaimed. "Not everything can be solved with boxing, Albert!"

"Oh...well..."

Jenny sighed. "I...listen. I do feel better since I had a bit of a cry," she said, lying slightly. "But it's getting late. I really should be off."

"I...well...do remember to treat yourself. Get some...some quantum sparks? You fellows like quantum sparks, yes?" Albert asked, nervously.

"We do." Jenny smiled, weakly. She flew in a little corkscrew, then waved with her hind arms as she wriggled off towards her home. "Bye Albert!"

"Bye, Jenny!" Albert called after her. Then, after a time, he huffed out a furious, grumbling sigh - releasing a coronal mass ejection that billowed and bloomed and crackled with buzzing power, forming arcs larger than planets before it slumped back into his body. "Why that Sidney! If I ever see her again, I'll give her a piece of my mind! Harrumph! Harurmph, I say!"

***
Jenny sniffled as she flew through the third way, her favorite method of travel. She tried to not think back...but...she couldn't help it. She could clearly see the Q resteraunt, and all their grayzone branchiations enjoying the homey pleasure of snacking on potentials and observing grayzone monobranches doing their stuff. She had invited Sidney there, having noticed Sidney drawing away. She had wanted to...to just talk about their relationship. To try and get it salvaged. And she tried to find where she had gone wrong.

Was it when she had asked Sidney if she wanted to move in together?

I know you said you still needed to think, but it has been a few decades. I was just-

Had she been wheedling and whining?

I'm sure I'll get the into the lower yellow next cycle, working with the Koala. I mean, he's been really impressed with-

Had she not asked enough about Sidney's art projects?

Oh, you're working on a new sentient grayzoner species? The Hirogan? Wow! They sound so interesting-

But somehow, despite her trying her best, the conversation had snaked and forked and hit all the jagged rocks that they had run into before. Jenny's inability to branchiate. Her dependence on sustenance. She could hear Sidney's cutting voice, saying: Come on, Jen, are you a grayzoner or what? You still look like THEIR archetype instead of choosing your own. You're six thousand years old!

Jenny shook her head. She felt tears threatening to burn in the edges of her vision as she flew forward. She shook her head from side to side. But despite her trying to do what Albert suggested and not think about it, Sidney's voice continued, hissing. You're six thousand years old and...no, don't try and pin this on 'the economy', people can find works in the yellow and orange zones, you're still living in your parent's archetype, they ascended into the upper void when you were ten centuries old, you can't just keep living in their identitary wreckage, it's pathetic!

"Mew!" Jenny whimpered. Tears burned. She flew faster and-

BONK!

"OW!"

Jenny rebounded backwrads, skidding as she did so. She rubbed her snout. "I'm...oh, I'm so sorry!" she said, realizing she had run into something. No...into some...one. She was beautiful: Sleek and steely gray, enfolded in her own elegant distortion of the grayzone, like she was wrapped in gauzy silks. It was articulate and artisnal, full of geometric intricacies that let it slip through the grayzone with grace and speed. It was...both...incredibly primitive and utterly compelling. Like carving in stone or plasma instead of interflexing probabilities or monobranch lifelines.

The stranger turned to face Jenny, righting herself. She smiled, enigmatically, and looked Jenny over - then said: "Oh, it's all right, cutie."

"H-...Heh, uh, I...uh...hi..." Jenny said. "I'm Jennifer!"

"Voyager," the silvery stranger said, drawing back so that Jennifer could admire her saucerlike body and her sleek nacelles. "A pleasure to meet you, Jennifer."

Jenny blushed so hard she almost turned inside out.

Mariner and Harry both exchanged a glance.

"Hey, Trevor, wanna come with us to a universe that doesn't fucking suck?"

Trevor blinked. "...there's another universe?" he asked.

Mariner laughed, then threw an arm around his shoulder. "Ah man, you're gonna love it. We have this thing called, like, a holodeck. It only tries to kill you like, six times a week, but that's only if you're a main character. Number one reason to try and keep your rank lowwww, ya know?" She swept her hand low along the ground.

"Heh, I've got an easy way to do that," Harry said as they walked to the exit. "I'm stuck in the Delta Quadrent. No real room for advancement."

"Oh really?" Mariner asked.

"You mean the Delta Octet?" Trevor asked, looking confused.

Both Harry and Mariner exchanged a glance.

"Yeah, sure, whatever," Mariner said. "Oh, right, we should tell Harry-E, that's Evil Harry, ya know, the bridge is ours so he can take over the ship."

"Think his plan is gonna work?" Harry asked.

"Knowing my Ensign Kim?" Trevor asked as the turbolift doors closed. "Not a chance."
"So, then we just split the transporter beam and ran it along dimensional channels and-" -smootch- "-that got me back to-" -giggle, kiss- "-to, uh, Voy, and...Mariner back to her ship and, uh, she said she'd tell-" kiss kiss kiss "-them that we-" kiss "-you know, uh...about us!"
"I'm in a freaking Terran Empire uniform!" Mariner exclaimed, gesturing to herself.
....... Wait... where did Trevor go?

Like, he was convinced to come along to the POV 'Verse. He... presumably didn't come to the stranded Delta-Quadrant ship that's going to take decades to get home. But... if he went to the Quito, wouldn't he be much better evidence for Mariner's story than her uniform?

Metagaming to give Voyager maximum information, even if it kills us.;)

Anyhow, clearly space girl needs to be pampered by two starships.

...Yknow, I really gotta reread Awful Hospital. And the rest of the Noisy Tenant stuff.

In addition: you do a very good job of writing in a way that conveys that what one is reading is something of a translation, at once a funhouse-mirror reflection of an incomprehensible truth and closer to reality than one would assume.

...How did you make me find a Sovereign-class hot, I don't even like them much! Darn reality-bent-into-decoration... :p

Uh? OK? Meet cute between subspace entities. Not my usual cup of tea, but I can deal--

WHAT?

Jenny blushed so hard she almost turned inside out.
Whose fanfiction did we just stumble into? (Besides yours, sir, i mean in character.) Where the hell is the crew in all this? What is going on?

Wait. Embarrassingly cute subspace entity. Confidently poised Voyager.

Subspace.

....you sick fuck.

...Oh my gosh, thank you so much for alerting me to this, I wouldn't have caught it.

I think on this level the crew would work out to... uh... if you were a mech with its own brain, and you were operated and maintained by some particularly interesting mice? :p

That only raises further questions--like, where's the brain? Have we had a ship-AI this whole time and it never came up? Has our subspace signature become sapient? Does every ship in the Cobolt-verse have a ship spirit we now need to worry about? How much incense does Engineering need?

[X] Ask Voyager where she's going!

If someone runs away from you, it isn't polite to pursue.

Well, one thing to keep in mind is that when things from other "conceptual zones" interact with the "Gray zone" (our universe), there tends to be...rough translations that communicate the essence but not the exactitude of what is being said and done. and...well, Voyager thinks, it has an ethos, it takes actions, a consensus organism of crew and computer...from a non-human perspective, it can totally be seen as just being a small hive mind.
