Cardassian Ship – Durable, uncomfortable, close, cramped and cheap. The fact that the starving could have been avoided if the government were less...you know, monstrous doesn't seem to have occurred to that many of them.

Okampan Crew – the crew are bright, perky, cheerful, and incredibly psychically powerful. Individually, they're all better than Vulcans, and as a gestalt? Who knows!

I think it's the term for arboreal movement facilitated by swinging from branches, often seen in monkeys.
No, that's brachiate. Branchiate is the tubes connected to the tiny air sacs in lungs.
It actually looks like it means "to have gills," which probably won't be relevant but who's to say.

A nonsense word. Its only relevant definition is in this story as the thing that Jenny can't do and gets mocked for; and also the thing that Jenny would need to do to get Voyager and Val Jean back to the Grayzone quickly. Instead, they're going on an adventure :>

i could tell you but, lets be honest: the real question is why did this quest become an Awful Hospital reference?

I think you may have messed up your link and/or spoiler text? Here's the spoiler text for those who want to read it easier:
the universe is best understood as a series of conceptual zones - regions of thought-space that share a unified concept. Each part of a conceptual zone is a person, but each zone is also a person, and each person is a different person at different levels of thought, fractally and recursively all the way from the top to the bottom. Coloration indicates how far up and down you are from the spinup or spindown of the universe, with the grayzone being the lowest/closest level to the origin point. Concepts in the grayzone are uniquely simple and discrete, and rarely if ever overlap, and when they do, they create extremely minor metaselves like states and starship crews. Branchiation is the practice of "branching" between zone, which can be used to both merge and unmerge persons into persons as you move through zones and coloration. fun fact: It's also why grayzoners can die!

That's bizarre...I wrote that, then I deleted it, no idea how you can see it...

OH I copied the wrong thing, that explains it

I interpreted as, yeah, based off of those air-sacs in the lungs.

I mean, think about it... each crewperson and system etc are, in the grayzone, like all those individual sacs. None of them do all that much by themselves, but in conglomerate add up to perform all the O2/CO2 transfer from the red blood cells. They're still part of the lung, but an identifiable part.

In this higher plane, there are no little air sacs, none of the limited-fractal structure of tubes leading up to, eventually, the trachea (I'm simplifying don't @ me Bones McCoy), nothing. It's all just... the concept of lung. It's all abstracted.

So, branchiating (as I modeled it in my head) would be the process of safely and correctly de-abstracting something from a higher plane into a lower plane, and so making it leave the higher plane and return/enter the lower plane.

...which means Bad Times if done incorrectly ._.

i could tell you but, lets be honest: the real question is why did this quest become an Awful Hospital reference?
...Hm. Definitely moving it up on the "to reread" list- my memory of what branchiation was was totally off, though I think it's mostly because I was only remembering some of the early stuff from a higher-zoner perspective...

...(The process of rereading Awful Hospital and related stuff is, of course, referred to as entwining one's exospine with a Furler.)

All right, Jenny's got 2 dots in Charisma, 10 skill ranks in Diplomacy, and a wiggle dice in Hypercharm, so, she just needs to roll 2d10+1d20+10+1wd, with a will cost of 2 and a Obstacle of 5 (roughly on par with petting the demonic kittens that live on Eros.) I'll ballpark that at TN30.

The dice also explode due to a passing far yellow event.

We scooted over into a wholey different TTRPG!

1 success, 18 total, that means you've drawn one card and it's The Moon (18), a major arcana relating to major fears and illusions...I'm afraid that, since she has no sets NOR has she drawn any jokers, kings or clubs, that Jenny may have made a hash of things

ELOGIUM (0.3)
Jenny touched her fingertips together, looking between Val Jean and Voyager. A single bead of sweat gleamed, then slid down the back of her neck. She gulped, then stammered. "S-Sooo, uh, how about I show you my DVDs!" she said, eagerly. The two ships exchanged a glance. Voyager arched an eyebrow. Val Jean scowled and crossed her arms over her chest, leather jacket crinkling slightly as she took a step forward.

"Can you. Get. Us. Home."

The voice was dangerous and husky. Val Jean had the look of someone who got into a lot of fights. And not, like, grayzone fights. She got into metaconceptual fights. Arguments. Discussions about identity. Trans stuff! It was exciting and exotic and made Jenny gulp as she stepped back a bit, bumping into a wall shockingly quickly. Val Jean stepped another bit closer, her eyes boring into Jenny's.

"W-Well, uh...uh..." Jenny said, then reached to her side. "I have a copy of The Producers!"

She held up the DVD. The two Andorian tricksters on the cover were standing before the fictional poster of Springtime For Khaless. Nervously, Jenny started to sing. "Y-You know! Uh...Spring Tiiiime for Khalesss and Quooo'noooos!"

Val Jean slapped the DVD box aside with one hand, then grabbed onto Jenny's shirt. She pushed her against the wall.

"Can you get us home!" she said, fiercer. "There were hundreds of people aboard me! Voyager has nearly a thousand! We're all they got to get home!"

"I can't!" Jenny wailed, which was better than her first impulse which was don't bully me, I'll cum. She closed her eyes and let most of everything she was going to say come spilling out, except for how arousing it was to be roughed up by a sexy butch. "Ultrazoners can branchiate between conceptual zones! Since everyone's a person and every part of a person is a person, recursively and fractally, that means going from zone to zone and disentangling you two will require branchiation, which, that is, branching your metaselves back into your grayzone components, but I can't branchiate! I can't! I cannn't! I've tried, bu-bu-but-but everyone always ends up all...puddly!"

"Puddly?" Voyager asked, her voice gentle. With a single soft hand, she caressed Val Jean away, so that her gentle arm could loop around her shoulders. She drew her in and her voice was gentle - calming. Like she was some kind of...nice cop or something. Jenny's cheeks flushed as she felt one of Voyager's fingers gently twirl her hair, tugging it and putting it back behind her ear. "What's the closest way you can describe that for us poor grayzoners?"

"Oh, um." Jenny paused. "You know that thing where your atoms get all quivery."

"...no," Val Jean said.

"You do it all the time!" Jenny said. "You make the atoms go buzz and then the chemical states change. Then you do the thing with your teeth?"

"Ahh!" Voyager said. "Eating. Cooking."

"Yeah, it's like that, but worse and on six dimensions and when it comes out, it's alive, but in eternal unspeaking agony, then the koala has to fix everything and it's just..." Jenny put her hands over her face. "It's just mortifying."

Voyager clicked her tongue. "Well, we can't do that. We need to get our crew home."

"Well, you do," Val Jean said. Her grin was playful, her earlier ire dripping away as she basked in the warm closeness of Voyager's comforting presence. "I'm mostly here for the ride."

"Oh you!" Voyager shook her head. "See, Val Jean's bark is worse than her bite." She kissed Jenny's cheek and then murmured. "Now, if you can't branchiate us, maybe you can find someone who can?"

Jenny gulped.

She knew a few good branchiators. There was Albert. Of course, going to him after how pathetic she had been was...ugh. No. But then an idea hit her brain. An idea so genius that it must have emanated from the far purple, unfolding inside of her brain and reaching every part of her body in a single flash of dazzling, perfect brilliance.

She did know...a very good branchiator. One who had dumped her. One who might rethink her opinions if, say, Jenny showed up with two utterly gorgeous girls who were so put together and so competent that even being yanked from the grayzone to the shallow red hadn't been enough to disrupt their savoir faire. Jenny could practically see it unfolding before her eyes.

"I know a few," Jenny said, thinking. But first, she had to get them to want to be her girlfriends. Or fake it. Or like her enough that them acting normally would get Sidney jealous, right? Jenny blushed. "B-But, uh, they're all in the pretty weird reaches - I know at least one's working at the hospital, and a few other are in the deep cthonic reefs, so, they won't be back for a few big bangs and cycles. So, we could always just...sit around and relax. You can check out my DVDs! I have a lot?"

"What's a DVD anyway?" Val Jean asked, frowning, her arms crossing over her chest again - it seemed to be her favorite posture.

"Oh! They're Dimensional Vision Disks!" Jenny held one up. "Beams right to some place with a beginning, middle and end. Some of them do watch back, be careful with Gublon or Globle or Golb or Prismo or-" She stopped listening the names off, hesitating right before He heard his name. Shit. had she thought it before saying it? She tensed, looking at the windows. A thin layer of hoarfrost peeked at the glass, but didn't quite furrow over it. A face seemed to glower from one of the icy patches - formed by condensation, hinting at deep, pitless eyes. Jenny stepped over and wiped the condensation off with a squeal of flesh on glass. "O-Or Any of the other far watchers!"

Val Jean and Voyager exchanged a glance.

"How long do we have to wait?" Voyager asked.

How long until they like me... Jenny thought. Uh. Uh.

"Six hours!" she said. "They're not actually hours. But they're kinda like hours, from your perspective. Hours-esque!"

"Fine," Val Jean threw herself down on the sofa. Voyager sat across from her - leaving a space between the two of them.

Jenny turned into a robot, purely so she could bluescreen.
