Skitterdoc 2077

Taylor engaged 3x Kerenzikov bullet time speed to demolish her omelette and French toast. Well done.

I wonder if the mac and cheese will throw off attempts at analyzing her drugs?

That Bonesaw section at the top was quite revealing of her current mindset, and very fun to read.

I'm curious, is Hiro the same pickpocket-type kid that tailed her on the way to the gang offices when she paid her dues that first day? If so, he's come a long way.

Rule 2: Don’t Be Hateful
"Hey, you want a replacement head for that guy? I got a contact named Igor that totally can set you up!"

"Really?"

"Yeah! Just...uhh...avoid the 'Abi-normal' brains on sale, those always seem to attract Gypsies who like to play the violin."

Taylor smirked at the reference but, whatever she was going to say vanished from her mind as she faintly heard someone playing a violin from far off down the hallway.

:p

with a focus on the primal prey-predator dynamic.
I know it's mostly fanon that overstates it, but I think it's clear where a certain someone's alt cameo appearance has to be.

That, or in a twist, as an Exotic that needs saving from them. Catgirl Sophia, the real reason Taylor doesn't like furries. (Or the reason she feels conflicted.)

(Also, the term 'furry' stuck around and became common enough that a 12yo knew what she meant, yet gun runner didn't?)

Wait, by that metric, the Emma expy would be targeted by the Tyger Claws?

Or, well, the 'farm' isn't run by them, but that doesn't make it better.

The Tygers do forcefully recruit people for their brothels though. One of the Pacifica Psychos in 2077 is a Black Ops Vet Dad going Rambo on the Tygers because they basically forced his daughter into being a Doll, of course the absolute geniuses tortured her, killed her and then 'returned' her to her old man which drove him off the deep end and he basically took on a small army of Tygers solo which is when V finds him.

Taylor: [after kicking in door at the end of the hallway, only finding a violin on the floor] "Well...this explains the music."
Hiro: [whispering in wonder as he picks up the antique] "It's still warm."

I just had a brain flash. When her weird brainbox bodyguards are inevitably discovered nobody is going to point to powers anymore now that her 'background' is so established. Obviously she's just someone important enough to have a full conversion cybernaut looking out for her 24/7. One that isn't even a psycho either.

This will not help clear up confusion about her family at all.

was not something that good girls did.
Oh boy... Is Taylor channeling some Bonesaw here or what?

Some corrections.
interesting things that I could know them too
"that I could know too"
rates I often had made use of his services
"I had often made use"
He didn't only did food, either,
"didn't only do food"
Otherwise, you had just to have
"you just had to have"

Great chapter! Little Hiro's got a nice little business going there eh? Can't wait to see more of this story, and Taylor's eventual rise as the premier Ripperdoc in Japantown.

Not sure if I've ever actually posted before but I've been reading from the start and I love this story, it's definitely up there in my all time fav Worm fics.

That meant he obviously knew interesting things that I could know them too if I was patient.
This sentence is a little off, I think it should be either:

That meant he obviously knew interesting things, and I could know them too if I was patient.

Or

That meant he obviously knew interesting things that I could know too, if I was patient.

Edit: Ninja'd

So, this means Hiro will be making regular appearances right? In a year or two he'll be ready to work his way up to bigger jobs and by that point, Taylor should be ready to start her career as Night Cities' youngest but well-respected ripper/fixer.

I keep imagine Taylor having to explain to Trauma Team that she can't work for them anymore because she has become the preferred ripperdoc for an entire megabuilding and just doesn't have time.

the bit where you said was a bit confusing then, as it makes it sound as they don't use those modifications at all
I changed that paragraph to:

It was kind of like the opposite of what the boostergang the Animals did. If exotics were more a part of a fashion-culture then the Animals were a lifestyle. They were more about turning their personalities (although they'd say spirit) and sometimes their bodies into a primal, almost shamanistic totem caricature of an animal rather than putting cat or dog ears and a tail on their body, and as such, the Animals usually beat the crap out of exotics when they saw them.

Wait, wait a moment!

I just remembered that Taylor has a Dragoon 'borg in storage! One that, convinently needs a brain to pilot it. And soke other repairs but those seemed minor

Damn Chekovs gun, that one

Unfortunately, that has a pretty large hole all the way through it (Taylor thinks someone that might be her dad shot it with a rail gun.) It's listed as not repairable on his list, which probably means that Alt-Danny couldn't figure out any way to get any of the spare parts from IEC without raising red flags.

I see what you did there :p
I really like the day to day we get in this story, and this Taylor is still TAYLOR which is really rare in straight up 'Taylor in another world' type stories so that is just a lot more ontop of a great story.
Now I'm having to push down the urge to do a little animation of Taylor tinkering at her workbench while either No Save Point or Gr4ves plays.
Why push it down? Dew it.

Thanks for the chapter. Taylor has certainly gone native when she thinks a kid trying to buy a gun and get a good deal is "cute" lol.

Did conscious Brain in a Jar bring up memories of her Trigger Event in the Locker? She stopped it as soon as she thought about it. Was it just for ethical reasons or did she empathize with the helpless brain in a closed box? SpiraSpira, Can you explain the effects of her tinkered anti depressants? She started with a PTSD about the Locker and creepy crawlies, if nothing else. Did the drug stop it? Depression and PTSD aren't the same, I think. Did the Hive Mother fly maker trigger her too? What about the mecha spiders her Shardlets want?

edit: it seems medicines that affect serotonin can help in both:
"selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). It is used to treat major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, social anxiety disorder (SAD), and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)."
But her memories of the Locker weren't deleted. Just like she distrust authority and feeling weak, closed spaces, restrained mobility and creepy crawlies should affect her even if they don't paralyze her or push her to hyperviolence.
Worm Taylor wasn't disabled by the memories of the Locker either but they did affect her. I'd say she managed to suppress her reactions by further exposure to Winslow in the following months or her swarm awareness of many bodies in a large volume of space was a hard counter. It also heightened her para abilities. Who knows how that works here or if it's relevant for a noncompliant Shard.

It's August 2064, and she is closer to 18 than she is 17.

I wanted to ask, are Bet-Taylor and CP-Taylor Birthdays the same? Bet-Taylor was born in June 1995. Was CP-Taylor born in June 2047? Or is her birthday a different date to make them the same age? Our Taylor jumped from January (the Locker event) to August. If they're the same age CP-Taylor was born in January 2047.

Ah, but Alt-Danny didn't Shard-based Super Science(tm).

As I said all Taylor needs to do is look at the borg body as a life-support machine like silver samurai from the wolverine movie and boom her shard tells her how to make it so

That wrecked borg is a dinosaur. It's huge, weighs a ton, can't fit in tight places and she'll need industrial tools to repair. The mecha spiders are more useful. Maybe she can take pieces of the dragoons to build her mecha surgical assistant. At the very least it's made of high end materials.
