Yeah, we probably need to find DIO before we can unlock Time Stop.
This is, of course, assuming The World's real power is time stop and not the ability to replicate the powers of the Stands of all of Jonathan Joestar's descendants -- explaining how Dio had access to Hermit Purple and also explaining why he went on to sire so many kids after being awoken.

But that's silly, right?

Not really. Makes a lot of sense considering that JoJo was time stopping when he was in the jail cell.

There's also the running theory that Dio deliberately let all his subordinates die so he could have access to some yummy Joestar blood because (a) it was the only way to synchronize with his new body and (b) it would allow him permanent access to the abilities of whichever Joestars he drank from.

Star platium filled Jotaro's jail cell with stuff that he subconsciously wanted. It used it's time stopping abilities to look like it was teleporting stuff.
I don't remember it looking like the things teleported in, just that they weren't there when the cops left the cell but were when they came back. I just assumed the cell had a barred window and SP was bringing the things in through it.

Actually, how was it getting that stuff anyway? Isn't Star Platinum's range, like, 20 meters at most? Is there really a place where you can pick up beer and manga just 20 meters from Jotaro's prison cell?

It was only a single manga and beer, right? If so it could have just been something SP stole from people walking outdoors next to the cell.

Watched the episode again.

There were two sets of items, one when Holly first tried to get him, and second when Gramps came.

First set had the manga and beer, but there was also a pen he used to pierce a hole at the bottom of the beer, as well as one of those long radios people carry on their shoulders.

Second set...well...*ahem*

Let's see, I counted...

A stationary bike exercise machine,
an office chair,
a motorcycle helmet on the office chair,
an electric guitar,
a classy table,
a Pixar lamp,
a cup of coffee with saucer and spoon,
a vacuum flask,
a metal box lighter,
a mini-computer (I'm not quite sure what's it called),
four books on the occult (one had the title 'Magia y Mysterio', another had a bent spoon, otherwise it was all Japanese text),
an RC car and remote,
a barbell,
and finally two sphere dumbbells.

...Then again there may just be an exercise shop and an occult bookstore next doors or something, the rest might have been grabbed off passer-bys.

"Range" as a stat refers to a Stand's effectiveness in combat. It's not like a Stand runs into an invisible brick wall if it tries to go farther away. I think of it more like an invisible bungee cord where exceeding the limit takes increasingly more effort - not a good thing when you're fighting for your life. For nabbing random stuff from clueless bystanders, though, I have no trouble believing that Star Platinum could go more than 20 meters away.

DIO's use of Hermit Purple was actually Jonathan's Stand, not Joseph's.

Only if you take Over Heaven as full canon, which has never been confirmed. Besides which, that is extraordinarily unlikely: DIO having two Stand abilities that perfectly match the then current Joestar descendants (and there's apparently a flashback in part six where he also heals Pucci in a similar manner as Crazy Diamond, who would've been born just around the time of DIO's emergence). This is something that has never happened at any other point in the story. Children have had similar abilities to their parents, but never exactly the same.

My headcanon/understanding has always been that The World's power is to copy the abilities of its wielder's descendants. Given that in all statistical probability DIO was stabbed with the arrow somewhere on Jonathan's body, this would make it Jonathan's stand (which, along with his body, is being hijacked by DIO).

Well, it was suggested somewhere in Part VI that if not for DIO's dominant personality, The World would somehow go out of control... But then again, the alternate Diego Brando in Part VII also had The World, with time stop only, and he was fully human with his own body and had no children...

If anyone cares about my thoughts on the whole matter.

This thought is completely ignoring Over Heaven and only using what we got in the manga. The World copying other powers is what originally was going to happen but Araki decided it was too stupid and just made it have time stop.

It's unlikely that The World was Jonathan's stand, as stands represent their users.

Jonathan's stand would be something different, seeing as Joseph's stand was different from The World as well.

Star Platinum is a high speed, precision, and strength stand, and also able to manipulate itself similar to the techniques done by people who used Hamon.

Star Platinum is fast. It simply brought things back to Jotaro, things Jotaro wanted to pass the time, or things he subconsciously desired.

He could have been reading the manga and thought 'hey this shit is pretty cool, i want that bike/radio/random object'. Or I'm thirsty, I wish I had a beer to chug back and Star Platinum snatched it from a store or bystander. Jotaro walks out of restaurants without paying all the time, I'm pretty sure Star Platinum would care even less about stealing what it's user wants.

A similar thing happened when he fought D'arby, he light a cig when D'arby wasn't looking, and snatched a drink again when he wasn't looking. It's the reason D'arby lost, he was freaking out because he though Jotaro's abilities were similar to Dio's, but Star Platinum and Jotaro just move quickly.

Ora Ora Ora is pretty fast you know.

Star Platinum's inherit strength is adapting to a situation, another call back to Baoh/Kars. It can learn and react at extremely high speeds.

Zoom Punch and Star Finger being the prime example, I would also say when Star Platinum sucked up Justice, it could be a ridiculous tie in to your lung capacity being huge with Hamon.

Jotaro learned to move during time stop by learning it's concept and experiencing it, Star Platinum's precision and speed evolved into learning to move during time stop subconsciously.

It's just a coincidence that Star Platinum and The World ended up being extremely similar stands build wise

If Jotaro never gets in contact with Dio, I'm sure something equally as stupid a power as time stop can come from combining Hamon and Star Platinum. Having Stands develop bullshit just because is par for the course, it's not something to stress over too much in general.

I mean we all know what Johnny did with something that didn't seem too strong at first.

It's Jojo, it just works.
