We have a bit of buffer with the rations, so let's see what the low risk options will get us.

We aren't desperate enough to go for the high-risk ones yet.

As for the ears, idk. I lean towards not hiding them.

[x] Hide your ears once more. "Permanent cat ears" still seems more problematic here than "lone female, etc."

If she's away from the horrible bugs, better not to attract any trouble she can avoid, at least until she's got a more solid foundation.

[x] Maintain your pace and put off mana practice until later. Your reserves are already more than halfway empty, and it'll let you arrive before sundown.

Likewise, best keep some power in reserve until she has a safe place to train/recover. Being out of juice and running into a problem is a bad situation, the more so when there's no immediate prospect of restocking any ammunition she expends. Mana she can regenerate on her own, bullets, not so much. (Not yet anyway, and she hasn't even considered it as far as I can tell.)

[x] Aim to learn what you can about Lady Amadea's kidnappers. This area seems too overgrown for them to travel off the paths without disturbing the undergrowth.

This will naturally include the "try to listen to local gossip" action, to get an idea of what's going on, just with a goal rather than being generally snoopy. It doesn't sound like an unaffiliated Wizard is going to get much in the way of work that isn't underpaid, shady, or both, so best to put the effort into something that will build a bit of reputation directly.

I suppose now that we've gotten a better idea of how they'll be received, we can go back to the basic concealment without being overly worried about it slipping.

Both because maintaining reserves when entering a new area seems wise, and because trying to keep enhanced physical abilities concealed is a waste of time when they're the basis of everything Blake currently does.

As I said before I want to keep the ears out. Leaning into the Take Over magic assumption will help hide us from people digging deeper. And I think trying to hide the ears wont really work against the people we should be worried about, and trying will make the people who do find out that more curious about why we did it.

I'm going to put forward a little on why I'm against hiding her ears, namely, I think they actually attract less attention in some ways.

1) They're a way for Blake to advertise her status as a wizard passively, which should earn her a base level of wariness and respect she'd otherwise have trouble with, which is important when she's viewed as "young" by all the people's she's met so far. Young but competent is much better than young and vulnerable, both for not attracting the wrong sort of attention and finding work. Why take the risk of tangling with a wizard who is at least good enough to pull off take over magic? I think this is also important because her weapon isn't seen as a weapon on first glance, as we saw in the last update, but instead a weird black box.

2) It provides an explanation for her physical abilities. Take Over Magic. Now, it's the wrong explanation, but once people find an answer they usually don't dig further. Sure, her abilities don't match exactly, but the usual speculation there would be that she'd figured out a trick or variation of the normal take over method rather than toss the idea out and dig deeper.

And my actual vote.

Just to say it, I don't disagree with your reasoning, I just think it's more in character for Blake to err on the side of caution given her narration and conclusions.

While hiding ears might offer some benefits, i can't help but suspect it is atleast partially fueled by Blake's habitual hiding of her ears, and i'd rather kick the habit now unless there is more specific reasons to hide them.

I agree it would be more in character.
Which is partly why i want to not vote for it unless it becomes really important.
Hiding is a good skill, but can be a bad habit.

Hm. How many spells in Fairy Tail are able to cut through space or ignore conventional durability?
Blade Dragon Slayer, I guess, though that's from the sequel, and is a conceptual cutting ability. Can't think of others off the top of my head.
... I think Blake needs a primer in economics. Just because the SDC handles incredible amounts of wealth doesn't mean that all that capital could be liquidized; if they tried the world Dust market would collapse with horrible consequences for everyone. Sure, they're still insanely rich, but you can't just conflate corporate and private wealth.
It's a fairly common misconception, to be fair. I have at least one IRL friend (not Alivaril) who can't seem to grasp the concept. It makes discussions about related topics...frustrating, to say the least.
It provides an explanation for her physical abilities. Take Over Magic.
Just to remind you, this is what a presumably fairly good mage thinks about at least some Take Over mages:
"They'd really just be better off training what they've got rather than looking for easy shortcuts. Hard work gives better power-ups than any spell."
While we can't know how widespread this opinion is, I expect at least some others share it. Just something to consider.

Yeah I'd like to try and avoid any more attention than necessary when kidnappers are prominent enough to warrant specific warning.

Based on caution like the above, low reserves are what convinced me

[x] Walk around town and try to gauge the general mood of the whole area, not just the main path and market. You don't even know if they have slums yet.
-[x] Try to guess what colors of mana are associated with which areas. You won't have the focus to learn as much from eavesdropping, but you could use the sensing practice.

We have rations and while we need to secure our own income for food etc I figure we can afford to investigate somewhat before rushing into work

That was in relation to going after creatures way too though for them and getting killed asa consequence.
Taking over a housecat for some minor boost of reflexes and senses is probably lot less silly.

The longer she can delay before coming to the attention of organizations that might be dangerous the better. Why arrive sooner and less skilled than she could otherwise?

If she slows down she'll spend the night outside, which means she'll have more time to rest and recharge as well as additional practice.

Right now, her problem solving skills are more aura-based rather than magic-based, so even low magic reserves doesn't actually affect her capabilities much.

Travel time is inevitable, but there's no need to prolong it and waste mana in the process when doing so might cause a situation where that very mana would be useful. And the potential downsides of being a fleet-footed takeover wizard are way less than the random encounter table rolling someone who can detect that we're practicing with Black mana. Hell, if we happen across someone who's in need of wizardly help it's a decent advertisement that doesn't give away anything close to our full potential, which mitigates the dangers of being a lone wizard somewhat.

-[X] If there are any relatively easy errands, complete them as you go along.

But don't avoid showing off a little bit if you come across someone who could use the help and needs you to do literal or figurative heavy lifting. Sure, using Gambol Shroud might not be a good idea, but for now gaining a positive reputation is a must for a lone wizard with hopes of joining a respectable guild. Or even just finding more work by way of job references.

Recon is always useful, and doing said recon is even consistent with the 'public' persona we're currently cultivating. Also, magic sensing is always useful and should not be neglected as a skill. (And also it might help move plot-type things along if this recon finds something too horrible for Blake to ignore, but that's not something I'm so much looking forward to as awaiting with amused trepidation.)

While I understand the desire for Blake to be more open, now's a poor time for it. Blake's the weakest she'll ever be in this quest, and gathering information is a lot harder if she constantly attracts attention due to her unusual physical features.

Notably, if Blake is unlucky enough to find herself attacked or drugged, there's a good chance she'll be forced to Planeswalk away. If this occurs before establishing a land bond, finding our way back to this convenient 'legalized warlocks' country could prove prohibitively difficult.

Similar to last turn's vote, I encourage people to include most of the default options, so long as they aren't obviously incompatible with each other. Blake's going to need a little spending money before she commits to rescuing the missing noble (to rent a room at an inn, if nothing else), and she might as well practice her mana sense while performing odd jobs around town.

The only default option I'd recommend not including in any vote is:

--[] Try not to pick anything that would require obvious demonstrations of abnormal physical prowess.

Since physical prowess is expected of any sufficiently skilled wizard in Fairy Tail. None of the people at the camp appeared terribly surprised by Blake's ability to scale their walls, and it's likely better for her to appear reasonably dangerous than an easy target.

True, but that's something that the basic nature of the magic encourages. Wouldn't surprise me if it's generally looked down upon as a result.

Any hidden advantage is an advantage that can be used a surprise. People will think she's a take-over mage if they see the ears, so hiding them means hiding the immediate 'Mage' reaction when people spot Blake, which in of itself isn't always a bad thing...

Not a lot we can do with it right now besides instant-death touch someone with Wither, but always keep some ready when traveling.

Grow what we know and have first, we've got a couple days to situate Blake before she needs to start acting. Getting even a little Green going would probably be the best way to quickly grow Blake's personal power because she could use Aura+ Green buffs for some pretty impressive bursts. I don't expect that any small little town out on the frontier will be big enough yet to pick up serious White.

At the current moment, our control of magic isn't good enough to really use it safely in combat for any option other than 'horribly kill everything', so having an empty tank isn't much of a downside, and fixing said lack of control is a priority.
