Renascence: A Homura Quest

Honorifics or Western-style Titles? I've used both before, which is bothersomely inconsistent

I'm mildly opposed to any profligate use of magic until we get some Grief Seeds. If we're expecting to need it, I don't see why we can't toggle it on, but I favor keeping it off unless we need it (or suspect we will).
We just had a heart attack because we didnt have it on and with how things are going i think its better if we KEEP it on till we area able to heal ourselves completely, dying just because of a heart attack is a cheap way to go.

Have to ask. If just cheering on Sayaka is enough to give us a heart attack how the hell did Homu survive timeline 1?

That is all.

It wasn't cheering on Sayaka, it was the emotional overload. She just a well disguised, very intense panic attack. Her heartrate spiked through the roof.

Said heart attack was (presumably) brought on by the stress of Homura trying not to glomp Kyouko. The big problem, though, is that we simply don't have the reserves to keep up the spell for long periods. It's 5 Corruption per Hour; we're at 350 (I think), Magic Blast is 20/Second, Time Stop is 1/Second, and Shield of Protection varies on the strength of the attack blocked. If we get into any fights that significantly damage us or require us to abuse Stop a lot in order to win, we're going to be in a bad place WRT Sanity and Grief Spiraling. If we don't get a chance to go hunting tonight - or worse, if we do and don't find a Witch we can beat - it's only going to get worse and worse.

Very happy for Crow's rolls (praise Crow!). That went far better than I thought we had any right to expect.

Though we didn't actually have a heart attack until Kyouko looked back at us with that heartbreaking smirk of hers. As long as we don't start plastering our room with posters of Kyouko, I think we'll be ok to let the enchantment drop during downtimes (sleeping or other low-stress periods at home). Hopefully it won't take too long to actually fix the heart problem, though.

There's a hand on your shoulder.

Wondering if that's a memory, or Mikimom? Only reason I'm not sure if it's Mikimom is that we see her making her way towards us later in the post. Would still be completely unsurprised if it was, though.

Also may have to revise my 'in love' vs 'loves' statement. Those are some pretty significant feelings of attachment, there, and hints that it was definitely 'more than friends'.

No one was in position to place a hand on your shoulder.

I think that's pretty clear now. I'm not sure on a precise theory, but I think Renascene!Madoka must have made a wish related to Homura. There's an outside chance that this is in fact post-Rebellion ('Where are the walls?') and MadoKami is in play, but that's very admittedly very unlikely.

First part is a good assumption, the rest is just groundless speculation.

....

You have to give me bad thoughts, don't you?

Madoka is super sad about Homura being lonely all the time, and constantly rejecting any attempt at friendship.

She wishes that Homura could learn what it means to truly love the friends she had around her.

This wish affects Homura as a whole, and is thus at least vaguely retroactive, and so carries past the time loops.

Homura lives loops with Mami, Kyouko and Madoka, receiving a remembrance gift from each.

Eventually, though, this is about to break her, from constantly losing these friends that she's truly fallen in love with.

She does something drastic to seal her own memory, and completely empties her shield so as not to give herself any ties to the past.

And here we are.

Either Madoka's wish or whatever Homura did to seal her memory caused fractures in the barriers between universes (given the power necessary, probably Madoka's wish).

Granted, even if this were true, it still doesn't give us any hint as to how to fix things, or even what we actually need to fix.

On the other hand.... HomuHarem go!

That... is a pretty good theory for the evidence we have at present. Kinematics, do you mind if I send you a Conversation with further thoughts on this question? I know my thoughts can get a bit too intellectual at times, so right now I'm afraid to annoy people by stating them in the thread. You, however, I think might be interested.

Diner Introductions
The four of you eventually make your way on foot to a nearby diner. Sayaka keeps shooting glares at Kyouko, who keeps throwing looks at you. Meanwhile, you trying to engage Sayaka in conversation, with only modest success.

Her mother, meanwhile, is texting furiously.

Once you get settled in at a table, you quickly open conversation in the best way you know how, "It's on me."

That gets a smirk out of Kyouko, "Huh. I won't say no to that offer."

Sayaka sighs, "I do have money, you know? You don't need to..."

You give her a deadpan look, "Rich. Father. You're taking care of me, so I'm taking care of the money for this trip. Seems like a fair trade to me."

She hesitantly nods, "Um...about earlier. I, uh...can I please..." She glances at Kyouko, hesitates, and then continues, "Please let me be your bodyguard. I know it's traditional for you to have one, and I...that Wish had a price."

You almost choke at that, glancing at the elder Miki to see if she heard. She's still texting.

Satisfied, you look at Sayaka before giving a meaningful glance towards Kyouko. Sayaka pauses for a moment, before nodding in understanding. This isn't the time, not with a certain fiery redhead around.

Kyouko, however, lets out a loud *harumph* and suddenly opens up telepathy, 'Okay, you two. What the hell's going on? I appreciate dinner and all, but who are you and why are you in Mami's territory?!"

Your eyes slide over towards Sayaka. She doesn't appear to have heard, so you respond, 'Sayaka isn't a Magus. Her Wish...was something different. I still don't get it, really. As for me...I'm Akemi Homura, and I'm here to protect some friends who are very dear to me.' You carefully smother the bubbling emotions as they try to infect your mental voice, '...in two months, Walpurgisnacht will arrive in Mitakihara. I'm here to protect my loved ones who live here.'

She goes still, staring at you intently. You loosen your control a little, just enough to show her how much you care about protecting her, although you're careful not to imply who you want to protect. She nods after a moment, seemingly satisfied, 'Huh. Didn't see that coming. You sure you're up for it? That heart of yours is in pretty shit shape.'

You go to respond, when Sayaka suddenly interrupts the conversation, "So, who are you anyway, crazy? I can't just keep calling you that?"

Kyouko blinks, remembering the human in the room before smirking, "Sakura Kyouko. Toughest girl in Mitakihara."

Sayaka snorts, "Yeah, we'll see about that. I may not be able to beat you at DDR, but that's just a game. In a real fight..."

The redhead just shakes her head, "You don't get it, do you? I'm stronger and faster than you, and I'm sure as hell more ruthless. You'd be crushed in no time."

Your best friend (for this loop) scoffs in return, but doesn't continue the argument. Even Sayaka's wise enough not to pick a fight over nothing.

After a few minutes of quiet, with neither verbal nor telepathic conversation, the food arrives.

Kyouko's plate is piled high with a variety of foods...make that plates, as two more soon join it. She pauses for a moment, staring at it, before digging in almost violently.

Sayaka and her mother, on the other hand, take to their more modest meals with enthusiasm, but do maintain some level of decorum.

You take your time, making sure to finish every single bit of your modest meal. No point in pissing off Kyouko, after all.

Conversation eventually picks up as the elder Miki gets the other two talking about gaming. They get into a few arguments, but seem to forget the earlier implications of violence. You and Mrs. Miki simply watch, chipping in your respective bits of gaming knowledge when appropriate.

Finally, after a long, tasty meal (and desert), everyone's done, and Kyouko is looking at you in a way which implies a conversation needs to occur.

You're not looking forward to being alone with her. She won't understand why she's being hugged, if that happens, and you're not sure you'll be able to stop yourself.

Alright, I'm done for tonight. Please enjoy, and I'll look forward to seeing what you guys have come up with tomorrow.

I would say arrange a meeting tomorrow rather than just 'later'. Our schedule for today is going to be hella full: Nanoha movie and possibly meeting the real thing, serious talk with Sayaka, sneak out to armory up, and hunt at least one witch.

It's either tomorrow or explain what we can by telepathy now. A LOT depends on whether Kyouko is willing to wait, or if she takes it as dismissing her in the wrong way.
