Renascence: A Homura Quest

Hm. The hunt witch plan makes sense, but should we call Sayaka beforehand to warn her we might be late? It's only polite given she's hosting us.

I agree with Macros on at least letting the Mikis know we're going to be late before running off to hunt witches. We might also want to have Sayaka around as backup in case things go south. There's still the threat of whoever or whatever sicked Heracles and Sesshomaru on us to worry about.

The votes to hunt that I've seen have also been votes to stay as Koko. So Homura being kinda crazy right now is a non-issue as the hunting votes currently go.

Do remember that actions Memento!Kyouko takes can impact Homura's sanity. While resting in the background is likely a net positive on its own, we run the risk of freakin her out if Memento!Kyouko gets hurt or, god forbid, in over her head.

Going to eat dinner, then will lock. So, consider this your 10 minute warning.

Currently, you will be remaining Homura and going to Sayaka's.

Currently, you will be going Witch hunting.

Urk. And I see this 11 minutes later, with only one vote needed to tie the leading vote.

Might still try? Frustrating to see the vote lose despite a majority going for it and disagreeing on a small detail.

Votes don't lock until after I get back. You're good.

Looks votes over more closely.

Oh, hell. Okay, yeah, two of those votes should have been combined, since the only difference was a harmless addendum. Apologies to everyone on both sides of the vote for the error.

"...might as well go stock up on Seeds." You mutter to yourself. Taking a bite from a loaf of bread, you make your way out of the Church and reach out, using the Grief-sensing functionality of your Soul Gem. You're pretty sure it's not actually magic, oddly enough--it seems to simple and consistent across Puella Magi for that.

'Probably Incubator-tech. Little rat's useful for something, at least.'

You begin making your way to Kazamino--no point in risking trouble with Mami or the other Kyouko. It's nice being able to run around again, you reflect--watching everything from the outside was not exactly pleasant. Especially when you couldn't do anything.

Now, at least, you don't have to watch helplessly as Homura breaks.

You take a bite from a chocolate bar as you jump off a rooftop--

'Sayaka's going to worry if I don't contact her.'

--and crash, landing face-first on the ground below.

"Ow." You say, paying lip-service to pain you haven't let yourself feel in long time.

'Ten points.'

Rolling your eyes, you retort, 'Hey, not everyone's used to hearing voices constantly.'

A pause follows, and you worry you've actually pissed Homura off.

'Says the one who wanted to be the next Jeanne.'

It's on now, 'Right, I forgot, you only admire Saint Madoka.'

She scoffs, 'The one time you two actually talked, she wrapped you around her finger in five minutes.'

'She did not!'
You protest, but the smug silence that follows crushes your defense, and you change the topic, 'Look, I'll just text...ugh, I don't have your phone.'

'I'll try telepathy. Hopefully, Kyubey will patch me through.'

Groaning, you brace herself as you go blind in your left eye again, and Homura's voice projects itself along your connection to the telepathy network.

'Can you put me through to Sayaka, Kyubey?'

There's an instant response, of course, 'I can and will. It must, of course, be temporary.'

'Because of Madoka, of course.'

'Yes. I will add her to the network for the time being, however.'
There's a brief, likely calculated pause, 'I would like to speak to you soon. In light of the anomalies, I have come to the conclusion that a measure of collaboration would serve us both. Some time in the next day or two would be best.'

You really aren't comfortable with that, but--

'March 21st. 11:12:04 AM. Location?'

'I will meet your outside the Miki residence.'

'Acceptable.'

--but Homura doesn't agree. You suppose it's her body, at the end of the day. She better not get you experimented on, though.

'Sayaka.'

Sayaka's response is surprisingly violent, 'I'M TRYING DAMMIT! NOT EVERYONE'S BEEN DOING THIS SINCE THEY WERE--" She cuts off suddenly, pausing, "Wait, what? Homura!?'

You are officially worried for Sayaka's sanity.

'I have some things I need to deal with tonight, but I'll be home before morning. Who were you--?'

Sayaka quickly stammers a response, 'I was--I was dreaming! Dozed off! Nothing to worry about.'

You call bullshit. Going by the fact that you just felt your left eyebrow rise, you think Homura does too.

'...Of course. Have a good night.'

'G'night!'

You regain your full vision as Homura steps back. Her voice, however, remains, now addressing you. She feels puzzled, and a bit terrified, '...Is insanity contagious? Do you think I could have infected...?'

You chuckle, shaking your head, 'Nah. Whatever's going on, you can't make people crazy just by being crazy in the general vicinity. Whatever's up with Sayaka, it's not that.'

You can feel her relax at your words, and your awareness of her fades somewhat as she returns to her rest.

'Alright, time for that Witch. Finally. Should be...' You jump back onto the roof and begin following the signal again.

Eventually, you find yourself near an old, well-worn home. Inside one of the windows, you can see a family sitting down for dinner together. You go cold at the sight, and immediately begin tracing the signal within the house, staying out of sight as you walk the perimeter. It doesn't take long to figure out which window the signal is strongest at--glancing within, you can see it's an office. Luckily, it's empty right now.

You pop the lock with a twist of magic--you're no Homura, but this is the basics of the basics--and pull the window open. Stepping inside quietly and closing the window, you walk a bit deeper into the room.

Your Soul Gem finally pings the Barrier, and you quickly reach out with your Magic, open a gate, leap inside...and find yourself in a bedroom. It's a relatively normal looking space--the walls bend in strange curves, and the furniture seems to be scaled randomly, but the space is consistent and seems to more-or-less follow traditional geometry.

There's a small desk--on it, you find a notebook with a word written on it in Witch Runes. You still haven't cracked how to translate them, sadly.

Moving to the room's only window, you glance outside, and find a normal-looking suburban view. You doubt you'd actually be able to go out there, and you're not going to gamble on it. Instead, you turn to the door and open it up slightly, glancing through it.

You appear to be in a large manor, based upon entry hall and staircase you can see from here. You can hear something moving nearby; it's probably a familiar.

You can probably fight your way to wherever the Witch is easily enough, but you'd prefer not to use up your new Grief Seed before you get it. Stealth is always risky, though, so you might be better off just bursting through and rushing.

'Hmm...'

This seems like the Kyouko-est approach of the bunch.

Well, I suppose the actual Kyouko-est aproach is fighting her way through every single familiar before murdering the Witch with extreme prejudice, but Kyouko is on a budget right now.

Hmm. Stealth is a risk if we get spotted without spotting that we were spotted - and it's even worse if the Witch starts preparing for us instead of just mobbing us with familiars, which would at least tell us that Stealth has failed.

Blitz is probably the safest option, but it runs into the problem that the Witch will probably be awake and ready for us when we finally reach her.

And Assault is expensive and runs into the possible dangers both with regards to overextending and letting the Witch dictate the terms, because it will either be fully prepared to face us or could actually come out to attack before all the familiars are dead.

Hm. Homura's Stealth is a terrible 2/100, but does Kyouko use that or her own (hopefully at least a little better) number, @Higure ?

She uses her own number. It's a bit higher, since she can't cheat like Homu.
