Renascence: A Homura Quest

Honorifics or Western-style Titles? I've used both before, which is bothersomely inconsistent

Okay, found a mundane Sayaka render. Not ideal--it's not a full body shot, and she's holding a present (I blame Magia record), but it fits her tone here decently.

Yup, didn't really remember the current status with Oriko either; the rest was mostly fine, but a reminder never hurts.

Did everyone forgot about Kayaba the guy that started the death game that killed over two thousand at least, Kotomine, Gilgamesh and who knows what other villains doing whatever their plans are.

Whatabout Yuma, Charlotte, the serial killing magical girl, Pleiades and the various factions in this loop.

He didn't seem to have done that here, though? I mean, the players seem able to respawn and log out just fine so far? (I do admit that the whole SAO plotline in this quest is kind of fuzzy in my head, so I might not remember all the details)

As for Kotomine and Gilgamesh, we're not even sure they're in this timeline. I mean, it's definitely possible, given Herc, but right now we lack too many informations.

And while other villains will no doubt pop up, it'll be hard to stop them before they reveal themselves - after all, the almost unlimited realm of fiction means Higure can draw them from almost anywhere, we can't just do a checklist to try to see if every potential problem might end up appearing down the line - it might even be timeline dependant, with some villains appearing in some loops, but not all.

Well, Morpheus has caught me, so I guess I'll finish the update tomorrow. Votes are definitely locked though.

You can always use Blues, or just ask about canon characters--you have access to the same memories that Homura does (within the limits of my willingness to write things out--meaning that you shouldn't expect me to transcribe her textbooks or something).

As for the SAO situation: Soul Arts Online is still in Beta, but so far nothing weird has happened. The same was true of Sword Arts Online's Beta, though, so...well, Kayaba's not just here for decoration, even if there isn't a Death Game or something happening right now.

Soul Arts Online is still in Beta

Ah yeah, had forgotten that, that might explain it, then.

(that being said, meta reasons tell me that whatever Kayaba has planned is probably different than canon, because from a quest perspective, we really don't have two years to waste being stuck in a virtual world. We have more important things to do! Which I'm sure was the opinion of practically everyone who fell for it in canon too, but they weren't quest protagonists from a different series!)

EDIT: that being said, if we can still reboot the timeline by the end of April, even while stuck in the game, that does make for one more crisis we need to solve for a Golden Ending. So okay, maybe the death trap will proceed as planned after all.

And I really need to get over my instinctive "but asking meta questions is kind of cheating, right?"...

Is it possible to convinve Kayaba to use his inventions for good or to change his plans to a more heroic one maybe ally with the heroic factions and magical girls.

Since fantasy is a reality now, he doesn't have to implement a death game to experience magical fantasy since this is reality.

He can still work on ais , sentient npcs and a virtual world just minus the whole killing people thing.

Maybe he can invent a magical girl training simulator or something.

Considering this time it's a souls game I heavily doubt people are going to survive the two years.

I'm actually interested in finding out If we can survive having our brains fried though.

Anyways we can't really do stuff until we know that something is happening/we have an actual reason to look into stuff and going super metagamey is bweh.

Well, I've never played a Souls game, but I've heard enough to not dispute that statement.

And yeah, I suppose having your brain fried out might not be fatal to a magical girl... though maybe letting someone else test that would be less hazardous to Homura's health.

As for going full metagame... I do share your reluctance, but then again, I suppose the whole "Homura has looped for a looong time but does not remember it very well" do leave room for some metagame.

Theres the whole paranoia angle, to leave no stone unturned or practicing mechanical skills and by chance choosing the nervgear to take apart.

I'll ask again what about recruiting Kayaba or at the least push him towards other heroic magical (girl)organizations that would benefit from his expertise.

Several problems with it, I think:
- we don't know him
- while the whole "world turns into real-life fantasy" might shift his priorities a bit, what he wants is a fantasy he imagined. I doubt the current chaos will make him change his mind
- if there's still a couple of months between the beta and the real game, the whole death thing will only become relevant way after the end of the loop
- it is still unclear how this game may help with training. Physical capabilities are entirely different, and there's no way to train a specific magic tied to a wish. With time, he might be able to cook something up... but a loop probably doesn't give enough time (also, why would he do that?)

All in all, right now I'd peg Kayaba as a low priority issue. Having him as an ally might be something to explore later, but right now, I think we have enough on our plate.

If you're asking me: No answer is incoming. You haven't even met him yet IC--You'll need to actually try talking to him.

Look, here's the thing about metagaming: Homura will literally not do things that she can't personally justify to some degree.

If you voted to randomly kill Sayaka, for some reason, she'd be horrified by the thought and reject it utterly.

If you voted to start talking about things Homura doesn't know, she just wouldn't be able to. You can't directly tell her things.

You CAN try to maneuver her in the right direction based on metaknowledge, or try to push her to do something slightly odd that might pay off, as long as it seems reasonable to her.

A LOT is reasonable to her, at this point.

So don't be afraid to act on OOC knowledge: I'm keeping secrets from you guys for more reasons than just suspense, and I've given you Truths to make it possible for you to pursue information OOC (and then IC, if that stops being fruitful).

You NEED to learn things (IC AND OOC) and use that knowledge if you want to win.

So, guys...was getting ready to post the first half of the upate, when I realized the big issue with that:

It's Saturday, IC. There's no school.

If you guys want to change you plans, I'll allow votes to be changed until tomorrow. Otherwise, I'll simply proceed, skipping over the part about walking Sayaka and Madoka to school.

... Japan does have school Saturday mornings.

[x] Enlist the aid of Kyouko, Mami, Nanoha, and Mrs. Miki in sneaking Sayaka and Madoka out of the house without waking them up. You're going to wake them up with a surprise picnic. In their pajamas. It's a surprise picnic pajama party.
-[x] Warn Nanoha ahead of time that Mrs. Miki doesn't know about magical girls.
-[x] After the picnic lies a day of laser tag, ice cream, and homework. What? You didn't think you were going to party the whole day, did you?
-[x] While Sayaka and Madoka do homework, study that medical text. Your heart isn't going to fix itself?

Okay, so: Canon is unclear on Saturday classes, but those apparently mostly vanished in 2002. Thus, I'll be running with weekends being days off.

Well we can just cut out the stalking escorting part I guess? I imagine we have practice with focusing on things even with distractions and at our sanity levels just being around either of them is probably good for us.

*Shrug*

I could do that unless we want to do something with the two of them?

I'm fine either way? I guess it depends on if they're up for it since we just did that last night (they might have other plans already?) and whether we want to try and patch up our Sanity, which I'm honestly just starting to wonder if it's even possible at this point, or if we want to try and get into solving our medical issues.

I actually rather like this idea. So, day of san-fixing and building Bonds Of Friendship, and then meguca things in the evening (or as they pop up on their own)?

Edit: A fair point, revised back to earlier vote.

Besides the general vote having already been locked, with only a minor mistake in it really, Nanoha is probably still reeling from the bombs dropped just last night and you expect the surprise pajama party to actually be enjoyed by them? In Japan? Especially when we're talking about Homura here?

I had honestly just dismissed that entire thing as a joke vote because of that.
