Long term thought- We have the potential for a 40 Wordsmithing, so I think once we get around to explaining magic to Sayaka we should gamble on telling her the whole truth. We do so in stages, to be sure, but we tell her everything. That way, we can use her to keep an eye on Madoka and stop her from contracting.

The way I see it, I see several stages.
1- Explain basic magic to her. Explain about wishes but not how they work, while recommending strongly against them.
2- Show her a Witch or Magical Girl so she believes more about us.
3- Explain about our Wish, and get into the matter of the Timelines.

Between our WordSmithing and our strong Bond with Sayaka, we can get her to believe us. Then she can keep Madoka from contracting at all costs, while we make preparations to fight Walpurgisnacht.

In addition, we can get her to tell us useful information specifically designed to allow us to persuade Sayaka and Madoka and get them on side next time loop.

Listening for Rumors at the Taver...Ice Cream Shop

    • You look at the man across the counter, "Strawberry. 3 scoops. I'm paying for their orders as well." You gesture back at the Mikis.

    He stares for a moment, then nods, extending a hand hesitantly for your card.

    You realize you have forgotten your Moe, and switch it back on, "O-oh, u-um...here? Yes, here."

    He twitches before sliding the card and returning it to you wordlessly, before proceeding to scoop your rather large bowl of strawberry ice cream.

    As you wait, you take a minute to listen to conversations around the room...it's pretty busy today, and you know several notable rumormongers who love to chat here. Maybe you can learn something useful.

    You focus in on each conversation in turn, carefully extracting every delicious secret the crowd has to offer, and turn up quite a few interesting comments:

    • "IT'S OUT! The beta testers get their copies today, and I'm one of the lucky 1000! Any of you guys get a copy!?" - random guy, black hair
    • "Notable politician and businessman Mikuni Souichirou's company tanked last night, and the man himself has disappeared and is presumed dead." -news report on TV
    • "There are these black cats all over town! I keep running into the things! It's the rat infestation in the industrial district, I think..."
    • So, did you hear? The Akemis are back! The youngest, Homura, was seen just a little while ago, not too far from here. Yeah, she's still just a kid, but the Akemi blood seems to have bred true in her, if her temperament is anything to go by...and oh my GOSH she's right there! Let me get my camera!" - random girl, magenta hair, taking photos of you
    • "Looks like Akemi Homura has a girlfriend!" "No, they're half-sisters! Can't you see the resemblance?" "Nah, don't you guys get it? She's an Akemi. Girl must be her bodyguard...probably trained from birth for the job."
    • "The new Nanoha movie is playing today! Some really good cosplayers too, I hear." -random girl, pink hair, not Madoka
    • "Well, I hear Matoko's finally gotten that garden of hers to grow, and it's really taking off! I hear there is going to be a public award ceremony for those roses tonight!"
    • "It's weird. She just VANISHED! No note, no phone calls, just gone. If you see her, please call us, okay? We're really worried."
    • "...from the military base, she said, but that uniform was NOT normal military. I've seen those plenty, but that girl was...I don't know, but she gave me the creeps. Told me I should contact her if my..."
    • "...weirdest rabbit...cat...thing the other day. It was just watching me...scared me to death, but I haven't seen it since, so...just watch out, okay? That thing gave me the creeps...too many ears..."
    You want to keep listening, but you're interrupted by a sudden weight on your shoulder. You turn you head to regard Sayaka, who appears to have decided your shoulder is the proper place to lean while she waits to eat her ice cream, "...c-comfortable, Sayaka?"

    Sayaka nods silently, still staring at her soon-to-be-devoured blueberry ice cream, "Mmhmm..."

    Her mother finally picks up her own order (chocolate ice cream with peanut butter, cookie dough, and white chocolate chips), before leading you both over to a booth.

    "So, Homura-chan, what do you think of Mitakihara? Are you liking it so far?"

    You nod, "U-um, yes. It's really very plesaant, and the people seem friendly enough..." You eye a young girl with a camera, who appears to be inching her chair slowly closer to you every time you look away, "...maybe too friendly, even. Mostly, I'm glad to finally get to go shoppping with a friend. Thank you for that, Sayaka."

    The young paladin blushes brightly, "M-my pleasure, Homura-chan. We should do it again sometime! So, what do you want to do later, after we finish shopping? Maybe go see the new Nanoha movie, or go see the sights? I know some pretty cool spots around town...or we could just go home. I bet you haven't gotten to try out any new games recently! I've got a big collection!"

    You smile slightly. To think that it would be Miki Sayaka, of all people, who would finally pry you out of your armor.

    Maybe that's not such a bad thing.

    "How about we..."

    I can't think of anything productive to do with the time. The Sayaka bond is already ironstrong, and by choosing to act earlier we can save time both for exposition and explaining things to Sayaka, or alternately for trying to glean at least some understanding from our medical books.

    If you've got a productive option so be it, but our bond with Sayaka is already as strong as it could possibly need to be for practical purposes. We even have matching earings!
     
    For those people suggesting seeing Nahona- Homura's primary purpose is still to save Madoka. What productive purpose does wasting time seeing a movie serve? The bond is already strong enough!

    Could spell trouble for Sayaka, but mostly harmless. Hints, however, at just how Special the Akemis are. Which means a bigger magnifying glass on us.

    Yup. That's Kyuubey. Some Shmuck's gonna go Meguca. Unless we immediately get Sayaka on board, there's no way we can stop it. In the end? Not our problem.

    My two cents on letting Sayaka in on the whole MG thing...
    We should let her confront us. We should let her demand to know what we're hiding, then break down a bit and explain how shitty our life is, having to fight for the rest of it. We shouldn't hide it from her too well, but we shouldn't talk to her about it. If she sees us slump to the floor crying, there's no way in hell she'll want to meet the same fate.
     
    Agreed on going after Oriko as soon as possible. Given we're playing Akemi Homura here, we should either recruit her or kill her if she becomes a Magical Girl. We can't afford for her to become an enemy. Making an excuse might be bad right now though.

    On Sayaka, that's a plausible strategy MeCrazyFang. The problem is that we need to drop a few more clues as Sayaka is dense by nature.

    Its never a waste to work on your bonds, you never know when they will be put to the test, besides more sanity means more room for files to be unlocked later.

    Hey panicking and just killing them is a bad course of action, with how the universe is working we should try our very best to make Oriko join our cause, we only let Murderface out when there is no other alternative alright?

    And letting drop clues about magic is NOT a good idea, she knows something´s up, she might be dense but she can be really sharp when she really needs to, right now enjoying her time with her mom and her new friend, relaxing is what her goal is, dont be so impatient, we need to take this cautiously to get the golden ending.
     
    Personally, I interpreted the military thing as some sort of black ops or otherwise shady military organization being active. This is fragile setting after all. Also interpreted the garden thing as likely connected to someone contracting...and possibly connected to the likely witching. And yeah, Oriko extreme priority.
