Renascence: A Homura Quest

Omake: Obligatory Innuendo

Homura was continuing a part of the relatively normal rooms in her house, and showing off some of the relively normal projects some of her family worked on. Some of which included an attempt to make a literal clockwork soldier and horse. Kyouko was apparently staring at the clockwork soldier's spear in fascination.

She decided to ask, "Kyouko, why are you staring at this particular project?"

Kyouko's answer, "It's just so long..." She ended up hitting a button on it causing the blade to extend. She had a very suspicious blush.

"Ribbons?"

"Yes?"

"Can I have one?."

"No. you can't."

"Aw~." Kyouko was very dissapointed, and the tour continued without any other incidents.

No update tonight...I have an idea for the next scene, but I need to mull it over a little to decide if it's usable.

Sorry for the wait.

In the mean time...

For this non-Canon Omake by AnonymousRabbit, we have...
  • Blood Rage: +5 to all combat skills while Akemi Madness is active.
  • Protect the Weak: 1.1 * Durability of Barriers created to protect others.
  • Fight the Strong: +5 to Power of Attacks against Witches.
Fight the Strong! ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWAH!

*Omake: Shield and Sword, Part 2
Must fight the Homura/Kyouko! With terrible writing!
"What's the point?" Sayaka asked herself, tears flowing from her eyes as she clenched her fists. "How can I even be with other people? I'm... I'm not even me... I'm not even human!"

Homura's eyes narrowed. She'd heard enough of Sayaka's pity parties. Enough was enough. She strode up to the girl and slapped her as hard as she could muster.

The loud smack echoed as Sayaka stared at Homura in shock, not crying, but her eyes still watery.

"Not human? Tell me, Sayaka Miki. Did you feel that? You did, right?" Homura glared daggers into Sayaka's eyes. "So your soul is now outside your body instead of inside of it. Do you not still feel? Even now, you're feeling grief."

"Rocks don't feel, Sayaka. Humans do."

Homura closed her eyes, pushing a Grief Seed into Sayaka's hand "Keep your Soul Gem clean. And think about what you just said."

"After all, I'm relatively certain that I'm still human. And I'm sure you can agree that Mami Tomoe was human, too."

Homura turned around, not wanting to see Sayaka's face at present, and froze time. She put distance between herself and the blue-headed girl, to give her time to think about her words. She could confront her with the results in the morning, after all.

Sayaka stared where Homura had been for a solid minute, before pulling out her murky gem, and draining the dark goop into the Grief Seed she'd been handed.

Mami was definitely human. Homura, though... Sayaka chuckled. That girl sure didn't act human sometimes...

Update tomorrow...Fog ended up taking 2 nights to update.

Sleeping now...loved the Omake, Sk8torchic.

Clocktower Repair and a Grandfather's Game
[X]Explore the old place.
-[X]Give Kyouko the tour.
--[X]Don't take too long, there's clock that needs tuning!
[X]Fix the primary clock.
-[X]Use Kyouko as an assistant.

You smile, "How about I show you around? The shop's been in the family for generations, and it's got a lot of hidden spots. It should be fun to see it all again...maybe I'll even find something new. After that...that clock needs fixing. Badly."

She raises an eyebrow, "Huh? What are you...?"

"Over the shop. 0.03 seconds fast. Horrible. Going to hit my father for that later."

She blinks, "Uh...you're still, you know...not scary. Right?"

You nod, "I am. If I wasn't, you'd know. Come on, let's get a look around."

With that, you set to looking about the shop, telling Kyouko about its history as you go, "The shop was built about 200 years ago, in it's original incarnation. It was only 1 room back then, and was more or less a normal shop. Each time it was inherited, however, the inheritor would end up adding on to it...a room here, a mechanism there, some secret passages. Whatever that particular Akemi's personality drove him or her to create. For example..."

You stop midway down a hall, reachinig down to pull up a trap door, "Down here. Follow me."

You make your way down a ladder before following a short tunnel, leading to a large pair of wooden double doors, "My great great grandmother built this..."

You thrust the doors open...and are tackled by a large metallic body, "...hello there, Lea. Good to see you too."

Kyouko stares in confusion at the massive clockwork construct that is pinning you to the ground, "Is that a...panther?"

You push the great mechanical beast off you with superhuman strength, "Off." Looking back at Kyouko, you shake your head, "Lion, supposedly. Don't worry...she's not as strange as she looks."

You reach up, pressing down a spot on the robotic cat's shoulder, and a panel flips open. Moments later, a large brown tabby leaps out, shaking herself, "...she's the family cat. The exoskeleton was built as a way to keep her healthy in her old age...the entire thing has life support systems built in. Sadly...she's pretty much at her limit."

Even as you say that, the cat wobbles, one of her legs giving out.

Kyouko stares in horror, "Hurry, we have to put her back!"

You smile, "No we don't."

You transform in a flash of light, gently touching the feline. Healing genetic defects is hard, and healing aging is only temporary, as far as you can tell, but it can be done.

The cat's breathing deepens, and she gathers herself back up, bathing your hand as you finish restoring her to healthy condition, "...she should have another year or two in her now."

Kyouko breathes a sigh of relief, but seems stuck in a state of shock, "...you're really good at this, aren't you? Healing like that..."

You shrug, "I've taken a lot of wounds. That counts for a lot. For now, let's head back up...Lea will probably follow."

Soon, you're back upstairs, and the cat winds itself about your feet for a moment...only to dash off into a hole in the wall.

Kyouko raises an eyebrow, and you explain, "...my grandfather thought that a simple catflap was too boring, so he built tunnels into the walls."

You show her a couple of the more normal rooms, but she seems to be afraid to touch anything at this point.

You can't really blame her, honestly. Half the house is pressure-sensitive.

Seeing that you've pushed her far enough for the day, you wind down, "...there's a lot more to see, but not right now. We could spend a week in here finding everything my ancestors have tucked away. For now...let's go fix that clock.

To Be Continued...
You make your way to the central clock tower, following the spiral staircase to the center of the clock...it's a bit tight, but feels rather homey to you. Kyouko doesn't seem to feel quite the same way, looking warily at all the exposed gears surrounding the two of you, "Uh...is this safe, Ribbons? I mean...I can heal, sure, but...having my arm caught between a pair of giant gears sounds really painful."

You scoff, "Then don't stick your arm between the gears. It's not that hard."

She scowls in return, "Says clock-girl. Maybe I should start calling you that."

You push her complaints aside as you begin examining the clockwork...everything's in place. Each piece hums and turns just as it should, a masterwork of machinery. It's just...running a bit slow...

...and you can't tell why.

You pinch the bridge of your nose, "Someone did this on purpose. I'd bet a Grief Seed that...here."

You slip your arm around the curvature of a gear, careful not to get caught in the clockwork, and pull out a stickynote.

Grandfather said:
"Dear Homura,

If you're reading this, then you've gotten out of the hospital and finally getting to live your life properly...I so dearly hope that it is so.

You've also decided not to abandon your heritage like your father, and are on the road to inheriting our family legacy. In order to help you on your way, I've left you a gift in this house...but I think we should play one more game together first, Homura-chan. So...here's the rules. I have mistimed this clock...a painful ordeal, but necessary. It's your job to figure out exactly how I did so, and fix it...do that, and you'll find what i've hidden here for you.

Good luck, Homura-chan...I will always love you.

Proudly,
Grandfather

You smile at his words, even as you feel your eyebrow twitching...you loved your Grandfather, but Akemis can never just make things simple, it seems...

You carefully avoid any introspection on the issue, responding to Kyouko, "...I'm rather fond of Ribbons, actually. Clock-girl could mean anyone in my family, after all..."

No response.

You look around.

No Kyouko.

...when did she leave...you haven't been in here that lo...oh. You've been here an hour.

You wonder if she's gone home already, but head down the staircase...she's holding that spear she was enamored with before.

"Kyouko...no. It's an heirloom, and probably isn't made for combat anyway."

She jerks, glancing at you guiltily, "But...I mean...it looks awesome, Ribbons...I can just see the familiars scattering..."

You just shake your head, "Well, I finished up there, for now...Grandfather is playing tricks from beyond the grave, it seems. For now, let's..."

Also, new feature in OP. The "Catch Up" link will take you to the first post you haven't read. Inspired by @wdango's OP in the wdango thread.

Threadmarking will begin soon...should make indexing a lot easier, and thus more up to date.

I merged Rabbit's and Wzd's write-ins. Wait. D'oh! Nevermind, too late for that!

I'm with Kyouko. It's actually really easy to screw something like that up if you're nervous.

Not exactly opposed to this, but should we do it before the Red Lobster meeting? (It's 1300 now ... when does Sayaka get out of school?)
