[X] Let them do it. Asuka and Rei could use this as a teambuilding exercise. Also, it will definitely help sell Rei plushes. And every Rei plush sold is money in NERV's pocket.

I'm sleep deprived so I'm not thinking logically. I think both have drawbacks. We need to have faith Misato properly informs PR on their quirks and current beef, and that both the interviewers and the kids are smart about things, considering their limitations. I think they will appreciate the good faith (and deffo won't appreciate the lack thereof).

If we wanted to not do this without consequences we would have to have not sold out.

I wonder how many dice will be rolled for this interview, after last time.

Growing Pains IV: The three, again

Fuck it. You decide not to change the current plan. Nobody ever said selling out would be easy. Besides, Asuka would never let you hear the end of it if you canceled her first public appearance as an Evangelion pilot. And if they fight? Then let them fight. You'd rather they expend their energy fighting during a low stakes puff interview filming than during an Angel attack.

This is a bad idea.

Incidentally, you ask when Asuka will be getting merchandise, as she seems put out by the fact Rei has merch before she does. PR replies that they were originally going to launch an Asuka plush line alongside the Rei plush, but Asuka refused to approve it, regardless of any adjustments they made to the design. The final design before they scrapped it was this, by the way.

You begin the hiring process for your new recruits. There's a lot of applications and interview notes to look over. You help the HR department sort out the unqualified, the suspicious, and the plain old creeps who are just trying to score a date with you. You're going to have to let some of them in, but you can at least reject the ones that are out and out mercenary about it.

Also, the Rei plush is proving popular among kids in the city, for some reason. Less so with teenagers. A few of Rei's schoolmates have taken to taping them to her desk or chair, apparently. Rei keeps bringing them home. It doesn't seem to bother her. Regardless, you decide that the next time you run into Horaki to have her set Rei's class straight. The bullying here is frankly mild, and it doesn't bother Rei, and it is helping line your pockets…but it's not right. Besides, Asuka's patience is wearing thin with the small army of Rei plushes inhabiting Rei and Shinji's half of the apartment, and you're starting to get tired of them too.

[X] Special Activity: See about spending an evening/night out with our dear BFF Ritsuko, doing something fun (preferably not getting drunk) been awhile since we last went out and now we have another kid to look after which is something to talk (complain) about, see how life has been treating her.

You and Ritsuko go out for a late lunch together at a more upscale restaurant. It's on the thirtieth floor and has an amazing view of the gigantic crater in the ground where Arakiel detonated. You can see decontamination crews pulling up the soil as you eat.

The two of you swap some work stories. Ritsuko is currently working on a way to automate the Evangelions, but the project is still in the early stages. She thinks it'd be best to remove the human element as soon as possible. It's not that she doesn't trust you, but she doesn't think having teenagers do this is sustainable in the long term. She's seen teenage burnout, and it's ugly. You raise a few concerns about the safety of the endeavor, but Ritsuko agrees with you. She's having issues preventing the system from losing control and the override isn't working consistently. If the project ever reaches acceptable tolerance parameters at least one manually operated Evangelion will still probably need to be on standby in case her system needs to be stopped. Based on the combat data and synchronization test results Ritsuko has, Asuka would be the ideal candidate for shutting down an automated Evangelion. She hopes it will not ever have to come to that.

On a related note, Gendo is crawling up her ass about Rei again. So, how is she doing? You tell Ritsuko about the current situation with Rei and Asuka and your very intelligent plan to make them work together. Ritsuko asks if you're insane. You try to explain your logic, but Ritsuko outlines at length the number of ways this could go wrong. Still, you feel like you have to see this through. Ritsuko gives you a skeptical look and says if anything happens to Rei because of this she's going to blame you.

You change the topic and say that Rei's managed to make some friends. Ritsuko seems interested, so you tell her that Rei's befriended Horaki and Shinji and your penguin. You share a photo of Rei with Pen2 in her lap looking at peace with her surroundings. Ritsuko sees this as a positive sign of growth, but warns you to keep an eye on her, especially regarding Asuka. Ritsuko feels that Rei is hiding something from her, and it's clear she's stressed out whenever Rei comes in for a checkup, even with her new base of support. Also, can you make sure she's taking her medication? Rei's only ever gone off it once, and the results were…they were not pretty, apparently. Ritsuko declines to share the details. Doctor-patient confidentiality.

You idly ask if Ritsuko wants a Rei plush as you have several at home now. Ritsuko says she's already got plenty, but thanks for offering. You groan.

Ritsuko then turns the subject to your least favorite person. So, Kaji's back, huh? The three of you should get together. You snort. As if. They'd have to pay you a—

What would they have to pay you? Asks Kaji, from behind you. Ritsuko bursts out laughing as Kaji puts his hands on your shoulders from behind. You feel your face get hot. U-uh, none of his business.

Kaji steps to the side of your table. You demand to know what he's doing here. He says he's eating lunch. Not illegal, is it? You mutter something about how it should be. Kaji says it feels like nothing at all has changed since the last time the three of you were together. Ritsuko agrees. You just grumble.

Anyway, Kaji was hoping to take you two out on the town tonight. Of course, if you're busy, he and Ritsuko could always just hang out together. One on one. Just the two of them. Without you. Just two adults.

He might know something important or interesting? Or maybe he's just trying to score. Worth trying I think.

Really like how Misato includes Penpen as one of Rei's friends. Penguin-teen solidarity.

Maybe a piossible special activity later for investigating Rei's medicine? Ritsuko is being a little shady about it.

About what I expected. The designers who went to the effort of creating the plushie and getting it ready for production, marketing, etc will be disappointed.

I like this portrayal of Ritsuko. She's not without problems, and she never managed to be any kind of parent to Rei, but she's not a monster either.

Either some kind of emotional breakdown, or physical breakdown. Limbs rotting and falling off like in End of Evangelion. Or both.

[X]Write-in: Tell him to take his offer and shove it up his ass. You are putting your foot down and will only tolerate his presence for business. Any attempt to get around this, and you will get HR and/or the goons involved.

Okay. He's not perfect, and is shameless flirt, but is he's not a bad guy. And is probably the best person to help us with the kids right now.

He was Asuka's guardian, so he knows her for enough time to understand how she ticks. Also, she listens to him.
Plus, he had a pretty good relationship with Shinji in the anime, and was a good help to the kid.

What i'm trying to say is, he is one of the most well adjusted human beings in evangelion (i know that's not a really high bar, but still) and it won't hurt to give him a chance. He could be helpful, in fact.
