[X] Special instructions for the Pacific Fleet (Write-in)
-[X] Get eyes on the kraken here, sonar, radar, submarines, down to the spotters with thermal imaging, utilize everything we got, need to know exactly where it is, what is its size, how many tentacles it has, etc.
Yeah, yeah, he's not green. He knows how to run an anti-submarine campaign. Despite the sass, he complies. There's a lot of sonar noise for some reason, so there's some considerable uncertainty about the exact edges and shape of the Angel through this method. The Angel looks like a big undifferentiated blob. You suspect that it's deliberately hiding information about itself not by being quiet, but by making so much underwater noise and bubble clouds that it's diffusing your sonar pings.
Regardless, thermal imaging, lidar, and simply coordinating surface visuals on the thing prove to be more effective. One of your carriers sends out a few planes to do a flyover of the area you suspect it's in.
The Angel's body appears to be roughly barrel-shaped and resting on the ocean floor. It seems to be structured similarly to a cnidarian polyp or a tunicate. You're not 100% sure of the number, but guesses indicate that the Angel has 17 tentacle-like appendages: an outer ring of 10 transparent ones like the one in front of you, and a smaller, inner ring of 7 opaque red ones that are shorter and thinner than the bulkier outer tentacles. The fog you're experiencing is apparently being emitted from the tips of some of the inner ones.
More worryingly is that in the center of all this is a gigantic whirlpool where its mouth would theoretically be. One pilot reports seeing thousands of long, needle-like teeth. The estimated diameter of the Angel is roughly a nautical mile. The central whirlpool is a little less than a kilometer in diameter. This is not good. The fleet wisely begins taking evasive action. The Angel is moving in your direction though, and you're not sure your larger ships can outmaneuver it. You have no idea how it's moving along the seafloor.
-[X] Encourage the fleet to use N2 munitions against the Angel. Anything with less firepower probably won't cut it.
The Admiral looks at you as if you've gone insane. N2 weapons are the only thing that can kill this thing?
Really? You proceed to tell him the parable of Azazel, which took one almost directly to the face and kept walking into Tokyo-3 unmolested. You also mention Arakiel only being damaged by antimatter weapons. He grumbles something about not getting any of "this stupid science fiction bullshit" but seeing the enormous tentacle writhing in the water in front of him does help him understand how dire the situation is. He orders all N2 capable vessels to arm their N2 missiles.
-[X] Protect Evangelion Unit-02 at all costs. The fleet can soften up the Angel, but only an EVA has ever killed one.
The Admiral seems skeptical that your admittedly relatively puny Evangelion is going to be able to do shit against this thing. He's more interested in showing you how it's done. If you're not careful, this will turn into a pissing contest.
One of the operators on the bridge shouts that Evangelion Unit-02 is activating. The Admiral immediately yells into the microphone to abort activation, but you wrestle the microphone out of his hand and tell Asuka to go ahead. The two of you get into a very mature and professional wrestling match over the microphone as you both shout at each other that you're violating each other's authority. The Admiral threatens to have you "keelhauled"; you threaten to have him court marshaled. It's a whole thing.
Unit-02 rises, wearing the sheet covering it like a magnificent cloak. The nearest tentacle, no longer content to wave aimlessly in the air, darts towards the
Othello. You hear Rei's voice over the intercom saying something to Asuka…in German. You know a little from your time at the European Branch, but not enough. You suspect strongly that Rei's pronunciation is awful, though, because it doesn't sound right. You only catch the word "B-type". Asuka retorts something that sounds very scathing, whatever a "Neunmalklugscheißerin" is.
It appears that two things are happening right now. One, Unit-02 is using non-aquatic equipment, so it will sink readily if it falls into the ocean without some kind of tether, and two, it appears that Asuka has set the Evangelion's language to German, which means both pilots now have to think in German to operate the Evangelion properly. The good news is that they'll have to be more in sync, which will mitigate some of the thought noise from having two pilots in there. The bad news is that you can't understand them at all and giving orders in Japanese is probably going to worsen their performance. You're
so going to give Asuka
such a talking-to after this.
Asuka and Rei jump off the
Othello and onto a cruiser, partially crushing the poor ship. The
Othello is promptly capsized and then hurled into the air by the tentacle. It lands messily some distance away from the rest of the fleet. Asuka shouts at you something about "die Stromzufuhr" or something. You have no idea what that is. You ask if anyone on the bridge knows German. To your great relief, one of the officers can translate for you. Asuka is asking you to get the external power supply ready for her. Rei is telling you they have around 50 seconds of power remaining. You put the order in and watch in awe as the scarlet Evangelion hops from ship to ship.
And then you and everyone on the deck except the Admiral gets knocked over from the force of the Evangelion's impact. Most of the remaining planes on the flight deck fall into the ocean. Asuka and Rei plug themselves in.
Let's dance.
MOVEMENT I
~Lebhaft~
Evangelion Unit-02 is equipped with the Progressive Knife. Yes, really, that's it.
Asuka knows her way around an Evangelion. Despite her lack of practical experience, her high intelligence and combat training means you don't have to micromanage her attacks as much as the other two. Which is good, because you're relaying orders through a very nervous German man whose Japanese skills are, at best, average.
How do you want to play this?
[ ] Aggressive. Get Asuka and Rei onto that Angel as soon as possible. The longer you wait, the more ships this thing will take down.
[ ] Passive. Asuka should let the Angel act and then strike when an opportunity arises.
[ ] Passive-Aggressive. The Fleet should take point. It's their jurisdiction, after all. Asuka will strike after a fleet assault.
[ ] Instructions for the Fleet (write-in)
[ ] Instructions for your interpreter, to be relayed to the pilots (try to keep it brief, he's not doing so good right now)
