Yeah, let's go with this.

It's really important to include the bread when you feed someone a shit sandwich.

Good plan is good, I'd add some stuff or change it but I'll resist the urge.

Rei has our back and is generally amazing, though I suspect we're going to have to help her and Asuka get along. That was not a good first impression. Also, is it just me, or does that storm scream "Angel"? (Or maybe we won't get one on the boat ride this time...)

Hey all maybe try the other vote I made below.

Also we need to probably try to have Misato think over Kaji as an asset over a special action or two. We have few allies and a lot of enemies, and if recruiting him gives us another action and his expertise, he should be worth the trouble.

If I'm reading right she mainly broke up with him out of fear of him dying and shit due to his job (which he eventually did) and how he sort of reminds her of her. Makes sense why her insults don't really have as much basis in reality (I'm not even sure based on story if his behavior here isnt just another spy thing since he doesn't want SEELE to think they can dangle her safety over his head as a threat, but wants them to put him near her as if she is a carrot to offer up).

If nothing else it will smooth out interactions and he could be invaluable in mending Asuka and Rei's social link.

Edit: does anyone think we should apologize with her (or to her as well afterwards) so she knows we are in this together? If we had known we could have tried to get updates for her, so we share the blame in some part as well.

Mostly okay-ish with this, but why are we having her apologize to the goons? They're goons. Their job is to look and behave intimidating. We'd be forcing Asuka - who is already in an extremely embarrassing position (of her own making, but still) to apologize to a bunch of shady, scary men in sunglasses on the boat, who probably are not the ones she cold-called. I don't want to do that.

And, now that I think about it, I'm not sure I want her to apologize to the other NERV employees either? Seems liable to earn her some dirty looks here and there, once the information spreads.

On reflection, I think I'd rather we have Asuka in front of Gendo and Fuyutsuki, explaining herself - and only them. Keep this whole business on the down-low otherwise.

Let her know she will be coming with us to explain and apologize to Gendo and Fuyutsuki once we are home.

Edit: I like this one better.

Agreed, no reason to alienate Asuka and cause problems right from the get go.

There are only so many goons to go around, so pulling them off of other potential goon-related activities, or taking them away from the goon reserve to focus on this waste of time and resources is bad.

Just remove the part about Misato apologizing, and I'd say it's good.

Misato didn't do anything wrong. As far as she knew, she was chasing after a shady spy asking very suspicious questions about the Second Child. "Fuchs" might have been a foreign spy looking to abduct Asuka for some Evangelion copycat project, for all she knew.

This is respectful, while making it clear that what she did was wrong, and the right answer would have been to work with us, which we will do for her no matter what. As long as she's doing her best we will bend over backwards to help her out. It's best if we spare her the pain of meeting Gendo for the first time solo.

Apologizing to Gendo will also hopefully help with Rei, but I think we'll need a lot more work after too.

I was thinking of Misato apologizing being more in character for her, (not for the actions we have taken) as knowing Asuka and having taken care of her before, and being the tactical operations commander in charge of the EVAs we should have been more involved in her relocation to another country and keeping her up to date on what her future career and life is going to look like.

All of that should have been covered by her guardian/commanders but there is also no possible way we could have known by ourselves that she was being kept in the dark about everything regarding her future, down to how much she is even going to be making salary wise.

That said our QM is very skilled at incorporating player discussion and the spirit of write ins. Which is brilliant, and I still need to finish that fanart.

That might be true from an administrative standpoint but I don't know why the Goons themselves would care, they got a paid helicopter ride and sea cruise.

TLDR I don't wanna be too hard on Asuka, but I don't want to be insultingly easy on her either.

Rei won't appreciate the kids gloves and neither will Asuka. Depending on what we expect we may drum up a punishment ourselves if we think it will persuade Gendo to not make one. We can keep her to just training and limit her extracurriculars for the first two weeks (since we will want to familiarize her with the other pilots and make sure they learn from each other, this will be fine, also she's been cooped up on an aircraft carrier so some exercise won't kill her), and we can sneak some stuff into the house for her so she isn't too p.oed. that plus getting everyone some treats will help make that suck less of we do it.

Oh boy I can't wait for the next horrific piece of geometry to attack, I wonder how it will grotesquely adapt to maritime conditions ;)
Hell I'm waiting to be hit with absolutely nothing so we look like dingdongs. Given one attacked from the moon and they seem perfectly willing to destroy themselves if it means the next angel gets closer to finishing the job though, I don't think it's an unreasonable idea to think one would adapt itself to attack an Eva and two pilots while they were vulnerable. Even if it was I'll suited to assaulting the geofront because of this, it could probably then go and cause damage from the shore and try to damage the jsdf/01 before self destructing.

Hopefully that doesn't happen. Also hope Asuka understands that we aren't going to resent her or anything(we're more worried about how this will affect her more than anything), just that we want to make clear that if the only person talking to her is us, that she should talk to us so we can help. We can get all the pilots ways to get information themselves, whether it be work cellphones, a computer at the house (probably can't afford more than minimal specs though unless NERV has some good ones lying around), and we can find people in PR, Security, R&D and even the JSDF or whatever office we have that talks with them primarily so that they can learn more about the various tools, equipment and allies we have in the war against the angels.

Also given we are gonna try to help deflect some of the Gendo sass (since it's gonna be too much even considering what she did), and I can tell you now even trying to ameliorate even 2% of his smack talk is not something you do for someone you don't like.

[X] Make it clear to Asuka that she messed up. Misato understands why she did it, but Asuka still caused an internal panic and a right mess. People were genuinely concerned for the safety of the Second Child. Misato included.
-[X] We will keep this under wraps, to avoid the mess of this becoming public knowledge (and to spare Asuka the lasting embarrassment). However, Asuka will be in front of Gendo and Fuyutsuki to personally explain herself.

Actually now that I think about it it's pretty impressive she was able to disguise her voice so that no one, not even Misato realized it was her/not a man pretending to be a girl (which is odd because you'd think it'd sound like a girl pretending to be a guy, which would be the opposite). That's pretty good voice control tbh.

You sympathize with Asuka's feelings of being kept in the dark. Lord knows you wish people would tell you things more. But you tell Asuka in no uncertain terms that she messed up. Impersonating others or attempting to access classified information in an unauthorized manner will mobilize NERV's anti-spy immune system, which takes a lot of time, a lot of resources, and a lot of mental energy to do. Asuka has inadvertently caused an internal panic back at HQ with her antics.

Asuka says you are all overreacting, but you shut her down. From your perspective, she could have been contacted by an unknown agent intending to make off with her for a weapons development program, a terrorist plot, or a science experiment. You had no information to go on other than that Asuka had been contacted by an unknown and unauthorized individual. What would she do in your situation? That seems to shut her up for a bit.

You tell her that you will look into why crucial information about her transfer to NERV was not properly communicated to her, but you suspect it was a simple mistake and the people who were supposed to do it thought someone else was supposed to do it. You also let her know that you are here to help her and that if she requires any assistance (professional or personal!), she can and should go through you. Asuka grumbles that she doesn't need your help, but she doesn't seem too adamant about it. She mostly seems embarrassed.

You conclude by adding you will keep this from the other NERV employees that she cold called, to prevent this mess from getting out of hand. But she will be coming with you and explaining herself to Gendo and Fuyutsuki. Asuka seems like she's going to retort, but pales at the mention of meeting with the Commander and the Subcommander. You don't get the impression she has the same sort of reverence for them as Rei does, but she definitely wants to keep on their good side. Asuka asks if she could maybe…not have to do that? You shake your head. Gendo's going to ask for answers and both of you are in deep shit if you can't give him some. Are you understood?

Asuka hangs her head. Understood.

You get up from the table and suggest she join the others on the deck, but she seems to prefer sulking by herself. Well, different strokes for different folks, you guess.

You reemerge on the deck to find the weather has completely changed. The air is unpleasantly cold and moist, and the sea is enveloped in a thick, uniform light gray fog. You can't see most of the rest of the fleet. It's as if a great gray curtain has come down in the sea. The sea is dark green and choppy. The fog is so thick you wouldn't even be fully sure the ship was moving were it not for the low roar of the engines below. A light drizzle completes the experience. Ugh. So much for getting some sea and sun out here.

You find that Horaki has retreated to the bridge to take shelter from the inclement weather and is hovering around the Admiral, who is just barely tolerating her presence, but seems to like her better than anyone else who's visited him today because she's been quiet. You ask where Rei is. Horaki says Kaji took her away to ask her a few questions.

Nope, nope, no he isn't going to do that. You thank Horaki and leave her there on the deck. She weakly calls out to you to wait but you've got places to be. You tell your goons they have a new mission: find Kaji and Rei. You spend your time searching for him fruitlessly, but after around twenty minutes of this you're presented your quarry being manhandled by two guys in suits and sunglasses. You forgo the apology for the rough treatment and demand him to explain himself.

Kaji says he was just trying to find out whether you had a boyfriend. Rei told him you're single, by the way. He was in the middle of asking if you still snore real loud at night when Asuka barged in and whisked Rei away to one of the other ships to go look at her Evangelion or something. One of your goons on the Othello confirms Asuka and Rei are indeed present there. Thank goodness. You let him know that your bulky goons that people go with a lot but don't seem to come back with much are very close at hand, and the UN Ethics Committee is so very far away. Kaji says you haven't changed much since college. You turn away in a huff. You hate this guy. He hasn't changed at all either. You whirl back around and say by the way, you don't snore and never have before heading back up to the bridge. A rumble of thunder from overhead matches your mood as you nearly slip on the slick metal stairs. The rain pops and hisses on the metal surfaces of the ship.

A second, extremely loud rumble of thunder comes from the ocean, followed by the unmistakable sound of an explosion. The Over the Rainbow rocks back and forth from the shockwaves. Your eyes widen and you sprint onto the bridge. It is chaos. The Admiral is demanding to know what the hell is going on while several alarms blare in the background. The other officers on the bridge are radioing the other ships and demanding status reports and advising evasive action.

You tell the Admiral that this is likely an Angel attack and you are taking command of this operation, as is your duty per United Nations special guidelines regarding Angel attacks. It's hard not to sound a little smug here. The Admiral tells you to go to hell and to get off his bridge, and preferably, off his ship. He demands all ships fire on the target. You tell him he's wasting ammunition and time. As he turns around to yell at you some more, an enormous tentacle erupts from the sea, just barely visible in the fog.

ANANIEL
~Der Engel der Stürme~

The Angel is underwater. It cannot be seen fully due to the fog. It has at least one tentacle at least twice the length of the ship. Its skin is covered in red-violet ring-shaped bioluminescent photophores spaced irregularly. Its skin is transparent. Its skin stinks of decaying algae. Its tentacle is filled with translucent multicolored organs of an unknown purpose. The Angel has just broken a destroyer in half.

Your combat readiness is Poor. You are not able to respond right away.

The United Nations Pacific Fleet is prepared to assist with the battle. Their combat readiness is Fair. Their attitude towards you is Resentful.

You have no idea what it's doing all the way out here, but it's bad news. You can't currently get into contact with Asuka and Rei, but you hear over the radio that the two of them have just entered Unit-02's entry plug. They'll be in the fight soon enough. Of course, they're going to have to make their way over to the Over the Rainbow after they activate to plug into the Evangelion's emergency power supply, because someone wouldn't authorize you to plug it in.

In the meantime, give special instructions to the Fleet and hope you don't die before Rei and Asuka get going. And hope that having two pilots in an Evangelion doesn't break anything.

At the very least, we can tell Asuka to suit up and prep to deploy but do not launch just yet.

Unfortunately, we still have no authority, not until the Admiral directly cedes command to us. Until he does though, we can make some preliminary battle plans.
