[X] See what he has to say

Connections between people are how humans prosper.

Even when the person in question is the smooth talking bar steward we shagged six ways to Sunday at uni.

-[X] Do so in the presence of the goons. If it's business related, they can keep him on topic. They're NERV agents, so they're probably cleared for anything he has to say. If it's not business related, inform Kaji that the HR department is so far away while the goons are right here.

Assert our dominance through the power of Hired Goons. What are we paying them for, if not to stand around menacingly in the background dressed in black suits and sunglasses?

The Second Child II: Kaji
[X] See what he has to say
-[X] The moment he starts "flirting", leave. Violently, if necessary.

Pretty much every region of your brain is screaming at you to run back to your helicopter and flee the country, but Asuka, Rei, Horaki and several of your goons are staring at you as you fast-walk across the deck. You whirl around and ask him as rudely as you can what he's doing here. You are very busy right now.

Kaji says you look good today. You pout at him. As if that will work on you. Kaji says he's accompanying Asuka on this trip and on important United Nations business. You guys know you're a UN subsidiary military, right? He's the UN inspector and overseer for this transport operation. He's also going to be staying in Tokyo-3 to keep an eye on things. So you'll be seeing a lot more of each other soon. He smirks at you.

Great! Just great! You mumble something about ways to disappear whoever approved this, and Kaji airily tells you Gendo asked for him personally. You decide to keep your violent fantasies to yourself. For now. Anyway, what does he want with you anyway? Seriously, you have business to attend to. You're wasting time talking to a lowlife like him. Kaji pauses, seemingly deep in thought, before asking if you have a boyfriend right now. You slap him across the face and storm off. You hear Asuka gasp and say something in German but you're way too mad to care.

You make your way back over to Rei and Horaki. Horaki nervously asks if everything is okay. You take a deep breath and tell her everything is fine right now. You're having some…personnel issues, that's all. Horaki looks at Rei for any sort of signal of what she should do. Rei just stares back at her. You pinch the bridge of your nose and apologize for the commotion. This isn't how you wanted this day to go. Horaki smiles at you sympathetically and suggests she and Rei go up to check out the view from above. You let her and Rei go do that. Before they leave, Rei tells you she's already informed NERV Intelligence of the…situation. You nod gratefully at her and wave them away.

You decide to go up to the bridge and deliver the transfer documents to the Admiral. He looks over your ID and belittles you for the scene you caused on his flight deck. You do your best to remain professional as the two of you exchange passive-aggressive barbs. Evidently, he's not pleased NERV is using the Pacific Fleet as a cargo service for Unit-02, and even less pleased he's had to deal with a child for the last month. He doesn't mention any details, but you get the impression that Asuka has been a pain in the ass.

You hand over the specs for the emergency power supply and explain it's to be used if there's any Angel trouble while at sea en route to New Yokosuka. He dismisses this and says that he's not going to approve of the use of that "children's toy" while at sea, which is his jurisdiction. The two of you go back and forth for a bit about various petty technicalities. You talk about how important the Evangelion is and try unsuccessfully to flatter his ego by saying how important it is the Pacific Fleet do this job, but he's not having it. He's obviously skeptical of the Evangelion's value and resents the UN's main military force getting sidelined by NERV.

You throw a bunch of UN military recommendations and technical specifications at him but he's pretty much undeterred. You try to get him to sign the transfer documents putting Unit-02 officially under your jurisdiction but he won't budge. He'll transfer the Evangelion to NERV's central branch once that damn thing is off his ship. You feel your eyelid twitch and you tell him point blank that in an emergency NERV's authority overrides his own and throw down several more documents telling him exactly where he stands in the pecking order. If you were more confident, you'd tell him to know his place. You kind of wish Rei was in here with you, because she might actually tell him that.

He reads the papers, narrows his eyes at you, and huffs. He doesn't have time for this. Look at that. He points towards a thick bank of fog and thunderheads directly in front of the ship. Seems like an afternoon thunderstorm is between you and your destination. He hates the weather in this part of the ocean. He tells you to get off his deck while he deals with this. He'll sign your papers, don't worry. After you make landfall.

You stomp off the bridge and go find Horaki and Rei on one of the upper observation decks, chatting about whether they should go swimsuit shopping together. Rei seems disinclined but Horaki is really trying to win her over. You take them downstairs into the mess hall for lunch, where Asuka and Kaji are already waiting at a table. You tell Kaji not to speak to you or even look at you as he attempts to play footsie with you under the table. This sucks.

Kaji begins bombarding Rei with questions, mainly about you. Rei answers most of them monosyllabically while glaring at Asuka. Ordinarily you'd be dismayed by Rei not being very personable with a stranger but you're fine with this particular one. She has picked up you do not like him and is acting accordingly. You're not sure if this is a step forward or a step back for her. Horaki tries to help Rei answer a few questions regarding school. Asuka sulks.

Kaji briefly mentions he's seen the records of Rei's Angel battles and says he's impressed with her performance. Rei tersely expresses gratitude in her own roundabout way that suggests she's not flattered in the slightest. Good girl. Asuka begins returning her glare. Kaji winks at you (you make a mock gagging noise at him) and takes his leave, leaving the four of you alone. Asuka rises to follow him, but you're not done with her. You tell Rei and Horaki to leave the two of you alone for a bit. Rei nods and the two of them file out of the mess hall. Kaji has waited up for the two of them but Rei brushes past him. You think you may love her.

Asuka sulks.

Anyway, while Asuka's little espionage operation is mildly funny, and you sympathize slightly with her motives, you really can't let this slide. Her actions have wasted a lot of people's time, and show pretty poor judgment, to be honest. There were other channels she could have accessed for help if she needed it. This is a serious security concern, and Asuka was out of line.

How do you want to deal with her?

[X] Force her to explain the situation to Gendo herself and publicly apologize to the local NERV employees for the trouble she caused.

[] Acknowledge the validity of her feelings, before explaining in detail the various issues her impersonation caused or could cause. Have her apologize to Gendo and the NERV employees she called, and also the goons.

[X] Acknowledge the validity of her feelings, before explaining the problems impersonating others causes or could cause (without talking about classified info In front of Horaki, note this isn't us griping about purely theoretical threats), and that in the future she can and should come to us if she experiences any difficulties, personal, professional or otherwise. Let her know she will be coming with us to explain and apologize to Gendo and Fuyutsuki once we are home.
-[X] ...Also, you have a bad feeling about that storm.

Lurker here.

The admiral's a hardass but he's not entirely wrong. Leaving aside how, as per the law of the sea, a boat's skipper holds supreme authority; the admiral has tactical and operational command over the transfer of EVA-02 until he makes landfall, regardless of how high Misato is on the pecking order.

It may be NERV's cargo, but it sure as shit is the Admiral's command. And unless a change in the situation dictates otherwise, the admiral will only answer to God above.

[X] Have a "private" discussion with her while surrounded by the goons about her conduct and how her actions can negatively impact operations.

USE THE GOONS

Having her explain personally to Gendo might be okay.

Forcing her to apologize publicly seems tailor-made to exacerbate her trauma and rub salt into her wounds.

Oh yes, he's absolutely correct that he has no reason to sign over jurisdiction over the Evangelion, technically (barring an emergency situation). This is essentially a formality given they're going to make landfall soon. He doesn't have to comply, but he doesn't have any reason not to do what's essentially a formality other than to be a dick. Which is what he's being. NERV is not exactly popular with the other militaries of the world.
