That theory's been discredited. There are different ways of learning, but you don't fit into a 'style'. You might have a general preference, but studies have shown they have no impact on your learning speed. It's still widely popular, but it's more a myth than anything else.

This isn't to say that you can't learn in multiple ways, but your preference has no bearing on how well you study. Instead, different fields of study can benefit more or less from the various styles. Mixing multiple is usually a good idea.

I seriously doubt it has been discredited. I have several educators in the family, and my mother worked in special ed.
They all claim that especially in special ed, the the different learning styles are very real, but you don't have a single style. Most people fall into multiple categories. Also it's more like strengths and weaknesses than one style.
Take me, I've been tested and I'm a strong visual and kinesthetic learner, but a weak audio learner.
It is also more nuanced than that, some students when studying their textbooks or doing their homework actually study better with music playing in the background, while for others it is a distraction.
I've found that usually music is nice and helps me keep working without getting too bored or mentally fried to continue, but sometimes I need to shut it off and concentrate, so even that isn't absolute.
I haven't been a college student in a long time, but I do need to study to update my computer certifications like the MCSA or learn about the latest version of Windows Server (and the desktop version). Plus researching other things like do we want to get TeamViewer, Go To My PC, LogMeIn, or Bomgar?

I can confirm that's absolutely false. Some people learn better by one method that another or are you saying that having to waste six freaking hours trying to memorize ten pages from a book is normal? Meanwhile if I write that same text as questions and answers the study time gets reduced to two hours and I remember the same amount of information. And no I do not have any learning "problem".

@Mister Ficser I love what you've done with this extended side-quest series. It is a pity that location can't have its sub-thread in this thread.

it would have made it so much easier to follow each checkpoint of his return trip.

Listen, before this spins out into arguing let's just agree that the brain is weird and everyone is kinda right and somewhat wrong in relation to how we learn stuff. Sound good?

Did Oak plan on catching Alchemist in that pokeball he had, or was he planning on releasing a pokemon to defend himself? Either way, I don't see it going well for Oak.

Well, no, but not for a lack of raw power. Had Oak unleashed either his Gyarados or Arcanine we would have seen different things happen.

Oak: Well... I've never seen someone frighten a Gyarados before. These Pokemon have been known to try and fight with legendarily strong creatures with no provocation!

Al: Aww, itsh okay. Who's a good danger noodle? C'mon, you are. Yes you are. Now stop trying to hide in the ocean. It won't help you.

Zeph: It really won't!

Gyarados, cowering on the ocean floor: The fuck is this?! The fuck is that?! The fuck are you?!

-----

Oak: Such betrayal! Why, in all my years, I've never seen anything like it!

Al: That's really you're own fault. Some of us know exactly how to deal with Pokemon like these.

Arcanine: Yesh yesh yesh yesh yesh, tummy scratches are the best!

Sirius: Ask for treats! He has treats!

Arcanine: Treats!?

Oak: Decades of partnership and my old friend turns on me. For so little!

Gary: Go for the ears! He loves that!

Oak: Gary, please. I'm practicing being dramatic.

Then again, that's what happens when an author makes a harem story.
ENIYA's new crackish qq story Gamification where he's randomly giving people gamer systems said:
don't forget that you're in a Shounen Mecha Anime disguised as an Urban Supernatural Ecchi Harem Series!]

Wait, Highschool DXD is a mecha anime?

[Always has been.]

I recalled seeing a light novel illustration of Ryuuteimaru's AxA upgrade online and realized she was right…!

Spoiler: Ryuuteimaru AxA

I should have known that this was secretly a mecha anime when Seekvaira was introduced!
The various forms of Scale Mail are pretty convincing. It's also got some crazy power scaling via upgrades and a focus on fights and art.
(I looked for some lists of characteristics of mecha anime online, and DxD meets basically all of them. Of course, that says something about the genres perhaps more than about DxD....)
(Of course, "Mecha" is certainly not incompatible with "Harem", but I found that snippet amusing.)

Ghost/Dragon with Steelworker (Human)
Dragon/Ghost with Steelworker (Dragon)

And, although it'll probably never be seen...

Steel/Ghost with Clear Body (Incorruptus)

I was tempted to go with Dragon's Maw on the Incorruptus to maintain the triad before deciding that, while interesting, it didn't actually add anything or explain anything. However some of the bonuses that were cooked into that thing include fiat immunity to basically everything, including stat debuffs.

...Huh. I just realized. I really need to work on moving the plot of this forward. There's a potentially fantastic scene I could add in for Clefairy after Pewter.

"Hello everyone. My name is Issei Hyoudou and I'm an alcoholic." A young man stood up from a folding chair situated in a circle among other, older men. He was a thin, Japanese boy with messy brown hair and amber colored eyes.

"Hello Issei." The leader of the local support group was an older man with an obvious gut and thinning gray hair. "We're glad to have you here but we're so sorry to see you."

There was a smattering of greetings coming from the other participants, mostly quiet and subdued.

"How did you find your way to our group, Issei?" The leader asked him, shushing the grumbling coming from some of the other, unwillingly sober participants.

"Well, being completely honest, it's total bullshit." The kid started off, sitting back down and leaning forward. "I know, for a fact, that what I was accused of wasn't true at all!"

"Same." "I know, right?" "It's just a load of bullshit, man!"

"How do you mean, Issei?" The leader asked, shushing the other members of the congregation again.

"The student council president, Sona Sitri? She complained that she could smell alcohol on my breath and I know for a fact that I haven't drank anything since before I had breakfast, coffee, brushed my teeth and even used mouthwash!" Issei leaned forward, his elbows on his knees and his bloodshot eyes locked on to the old alcoholic at the head of the group. "I was probably sweating it out, though. It was just after gym when she started complaining."

"That's... Very unfortunate, Issei." The man looked lost as he turned his head to the left and right, looking at the regular members of his congregation. "What... What instigated your, uh, habits? Issei? Especially for someone so young as yourself? What started all of this, what brought you here?"

"Ah, that." The brunette nodded seriously, crossing his arms and leaning back in his chair. "Well, I didn't start drinking then but it all started seven years ago, when I was ten. I was just an innocent kid back then, y'know? All I wanted to do was meet up with my friends and look at magazines, y'know? Just kid stuff, playing cards, video games, looking at some oppai... But then you all remember when that sudden meteor came out of nowhere and landed in the ocean?"

Issei remembered it like it was yesterday. Typhoons and tidal waves had rocked Japan for months following the event.

"Yes. I remember." The leader, the man that Issei didn't bother learning the name of, nodded quietly. Quite a few others looked down at their feet, remembering the struggles that immediately followed the natural disaster as the world struggled to make it through calamity after calamity. "The years following it were a terrible struggle. Myself and many others were so worried that things would never return to normal."

Normal.

Issei did not snort in derision at the word. If only because he wished things were normal himself. He wished he didn't know how abnormal everything was.

The Meteor had been no accident. Something that he and tens of thousands of others knew, that they'd been unwilling witnesses to.

"Well, I saw the truth. I saw where the Meteor actually came from. I know what drew it here." In the supernatural community, it wasn't even a secret. Something that big couldn't be hidden.

He didn't know about the actual aftermath for the four individuals involved... But he remembered what brilliant white wings tasted like.

"You... Think something summoned that disaster?" The leader asked, a flummoxed look on his face.

"Yes. And it wasn't luck that saw it slamming down in the Atlantic instead of on land." Issei leaned back forward, locking his eyes on the man. "It was called by a space dragon when the strongest devil, angel and fallen angel all tried to fight it."

Sirzechs Gremory. Azazel. Michael.

Issei remembered how it felt when they'd tried to annihilate him with Bael's Power of Destruction. When the angel and the fallen had tried piercing him with Light.

Thousands of others remembered, too. They saw it, they felt it, they had Understanding crammed into their unknowing skulls all at the same time.

"And now the supernatural powers are all watching and waiting, afraid that another creature like him will cross the divide between worlds!" Issei stood up and shouted, pointing at the man in charge of this farce. "But none of them are willing to admit that they started the fight, that they caused this! That they tried to control something they didn't understand and it ruined everything!"

"...Issei." The man stood up and held his hands out, palms forward as he spoke soothingly. "Young man, I understand that Meteor Fall was a... Stressful event. That the disasters that followed were hard on you. They were hard on everyone."

"Half of them were intentional!" Issei shouted, bloodshot eyes opened wide with mania. "The devils released their unwanted on Earth! They were eating people, then they erased the memories of the survivors! The church was-"

"Issei!" The leader interrupted him sharply, silencing the boy. "Issei... I understand this has been... Difficult for you. But. Alcohol is not an appropriate way of handling your issues."

"Oh, that's not why I drink." Issei sat back down in his folding chair, breathing heavily. "I drink because it gives me the strength to fight back against the monsters that are hunting us."

"...Young man?" The leader began backing away and several of the regulars stood up and began to rush for the exit. "You really should not be using Alcohol as a means of... Medicating for Schizophrenia."

Issei... Pursed his lips in irritation.

Why did everyone think he was crazy?

-----

Walking home after being kicked out of the Alcoholic Support Group, Issei checked his phone. Specifically, he checked the subforum on a global messaging group he was a member of.

--TwinCrits: Well, that was a bust. As expected.

--ThirdHand: Tried telling them the truth again?

--LineEater: Right. Like that was ever going to work out.

--BiCritting: Told you that your supplement idea was going to backfire.

--TwinCrits: It works fine! It just sucks that the side effects are so obvious. Anyway, I think I saw some Crows hanging around my workshop. Now that I can hold a charge, does anyone know how to make that closet?

--EraseField: Wait, that actually worked? I've got the notes for that somewhere. Trade?

--LineEater: Let me know if you can copy it? I managed to get something working and I'd be willing to send you both a copy of my notes?

--TwinCrits: Deal. I'll send you a DM when I get home.

Issei put his phone away in his pocket and looked up as he reached the subway that would eventually take him back to Kuoh.

He didn't know the names of the other members of his group but he knew what they had in common.

He clenched his left fist, metal manifesting momentarily before fading back away.

Each and every single person in the group had a Sacred Gear, like his Twice Critical. Each of them had a dragon forcibly bound and then connected to their souls.

Each of them... Each of them had seen the memories of the Foreign Dragon, his mind pressing against theirs when he'd bitten into the Seraph, Michael and his magic had touched on to the Divine System that the angel could barely direct.

It was only a few moments but... Issei had bits and pieces of magical lore and arcane science forced into his mind. Others had felt it as different bits and pieces were left within them. He saw the battle as though he were there. The Foreigner's thoughts had felt like his own. The magic he'd commanded had been beyond anything the young Japanese boy could even dream of.

And each of them, each and every single Human that had been touched, had learned of the supernatural. Of the monsters that hunted them in the dark. Of the two-faced lies that the Church spouted as it supported the beasts in remaining hidden.

Of the non-slavery the devils promised, all while hiding the dark secret of those who fled their twisted reincarnation and were forced into wicked, monstrous shapes called 'Stray Devils'.

Issei had understood. He'd known, then, what he'd been given. His Sacred Gear had activated, as had every other dormant Dragon Gear in the world. Individually, none of them were that strong. Issei himself was among the weakest that the others knew of, having virtually no native capacity to store magic within himself.

He stepped on to the underground train and placed a hand against his side, holding a small bottle in place against the hustle and bustle of people packing in.

With a small, portable and hidden means of accessing magic?

Issei could do so much more. More than he'd ever thought possible.

Other than the fact that High School DxD is involved (because I Googled the character earlier), I have no idea what that's about. Not gonna bother reading it. :(

Oh well, you win some, you lose some, I guess.

Well then, that's an intro to a story if I ever saw one.

There needs to be no connection to Alchemist or any other fandom. Just have it be a random dragon who took an afternoon nap for a few thousand years and had some opinions about being forced to hide by lesser races when they woke up.

Wow, that's dark. MC shows up in DxD, (probably not stopped by Great Red / Infinity Dragon from coming in because he's a type of dragon himself) and then Micheal, Azazel, and Sirzechs tried to kill him for some reason and thus all the dragons get riled up because one of the rarest and most respected dragon types got 'attempted ganked' for the crime of existing by the Abrahamic big three?

I kind of want to hear more, that's way more interesting than the MHA or FMA sidestory lines. I'm pretty sure I'd take that over the Pokemon side story too.

A decent chunk of the premise for this started with me asking the question "How can I get Issei to tell Vali Lucifer 'Look, I know Ddraig and Albion have got this whole kiss-kill-kiss thing going on... But I'm a dude. You're a dude. If that's your thing, that's cool... But it's not mine. So maybe, I dunno, chill out? I'm pretty sure my liver will give out in a few years, then you can go lust angrily after the next one. Fifty-fifty odds that it's a chick, am I right?"

Hahahaha, wow. An actually semi-competant Issei who hasn't been replaced by something else? That's amazing!

Semi-competent would be the key words, here. He's figured out a way to access magic, sure, but it has some fun and some not-so-fun drawbacks.

I'm sure it's a bit more complicated then that? If only because while space/eldritch dragons ARE the rarest, they're generally the opposite of respected (by Dragons and humanoids both). On account of the fact that generally, the more mature and powerful they are, the crazier they are too.

That additionally wouldn't account for why Alchemist transmitted knowledge/memories to dragons in SG's (and their hosts) via Michael's connection to God's system. How he did it yes, not why. That'd presumably have to wait until we get an actual Dragon's perspective. Maybe Draig when he wakes up, maybe Albion.

Gimme details!

Also did anyone get infected by Bloodborne this time?

Alcohol. Issei got a download of transmutation and transformative magics during the Abrahamic fight whilst others got different parts of Al's magical knowledge.

For Issei, this included a lot of principles that could be applied to minor alchemy. Creating magical crystals to store magic is doable but it's slow and they would need to be placed somewhere with a high ambient charge or else manually filled.

Making alcohol, though, already involves crystals filled with the memory of life (Sugar!) and if made on a leyline convergence could pick up a bit more of a charge. Distilling it would further concentrate the charge into something a bit more useful.

He's not talented or experienced enough to make some incredibly high potency spirits. Nor is he good enough to distill a lot of magic into one bottle. If he drinks himself into a stupor right now, he might be able to cast a single fifth level spell. If he was willing to deal with being hospitalized, I suppose it would be possible to drink enough for a ninth level spell.

As to Bloodborne... I hadn't planned on it. Might say that all of the humans with Dragon Sacred Gears got a shot of insight, though.
