My Life as a Teenage Juggernaut... (Worm AU x Marvel)

At this time, no one has survived two rounds as described in worm; until somebody provides proof that it can be done, it's not humanly possible, ergo path to victory can't do it.
Tampered-with charges, Tinker-tech bullets, carefully calculated to just skim the brain, not penetrate, all bone fragment trajectories pre-calculated... So many ways this might be messed with... (Had the Amy mods got deliberately sever-able bits?) Also, PtV had an objective here, not just execution - so many other ways to do things if just that was required. Odds are shot-Taylor will be hospitalised.

Personally, I don't trust WoG worth a... rude-word. And, past a certain point, I don't care. Lots of stories... fall to bits at the end. This for 'Worm' isn't surprising.

Probably more relevant, what does QA want? Preserving a mind-image, not just the 'useful for shard combat bits', entirely feasible. Simurgh was arranging to clone David/Eidolon - QA could do similar, or all sorts of other things. "Weaver mind-image stolen by Lizards. News at 10. Film, 'Solaris', at 11."

But. No one is going to head-shot this Taylor, with even the tinniest expectation of doing anything but attracting her attention. We can guess what comes next. Maybe I need to put more than just thought into 'LBDoD 3'...

Uh, Taylor triggers on the first day of school in January 2011, which according to the calendar would be January 3rd. Although I vaguely remember Worm claiming this was ether the 2nd or the 4th of January. Jan 2nd, 2011 was a Sunday, so no school. And the 4th was a Tuesday. High schools come back from Christmas break on the first Monday of the new year. Since we know Sophia left the bio-waste to rot for a couple weeks over Christmas break, that would mean that Winslow went on break from Monday December 20th, 2010 until January 3rd, 2011. My research shows that schools with a 2 week Christmas break start it on the last Monday before Christmas.

Canon starts three months after her Trigger, though I think, unless I misremember, that this fic does not do that. She spent a lot of time getting into better shape and making her costume-twice, since she didn't know what she was doing at first and had to start from scratch making a new costume.

Take Taylor is DOOMED, where she doesn't even notice getting shot in the back of her head, as she was focused on something else. I expect the worst that could happen to juggernaut!Taylor is her turning to the person responsible, arching one eyebrow, and saying, "Really?"

Correct, THIS story starts on January 3rd. Well, no. It starts earlier then that when Taylor first finds the Ruby shortly after Annette's death, but the main focus starts on January 3rd. No time spent in a psyche ward, getting into shape, researching, and making a costume means Taylor got into the action much sooner.

And early enough that unless the accident was violent enough to be instantaneously fatal (like a hangman's break, or burned beyond recognition), Amy could've healed Annette in canon Worm.
Presumably, Annette could still have died on the way to the hospital or otherwise before Amy could get to her.

The basis of the story idea is Amy is with Annette (and is presumably uninjured/healed by Triggering).
Article:
Hmm... just had a strange idea: What if, instead of the Dallons getting Amelia, Marquis asks that his daughter be taken to a non-descript house in the OK but not wealthy part of town? One that just happens to be where The Heberts live. Either because Marquis trusts Danny, or Annette is related to his dead wife.

Amy still triggers, but during the car accident, saving Annette's life instead of Vicky's.

If I understand it, alternative point is Amy had triggered prior to the accident, so, maybe was already Panacea, making healing still possible.

So, initial scenario, Amy is on-the-spot, alt, yes, your comment applies. Or, have I got things mixed-up here? If so, sorry.

Car accident happens, a strange, small, portal opens, something is placed on Annette, pressed, there's a strange 'squeak'. A scaly arm withdraws. Shortly after, Annette looks around at the mess which is her car, marveling at how lightly injured she is, sure she'll feel it tomorrow. She doesn't.

Scenario Three: A Lizard Did It. :)

This Wont Happen:
Taylor comes down on Christmas Morning, ducking her head, even though she knows the improved house has a high enough stairwell.

Next to the tree is a seven-foot long box, "Congratulations! You've won our Multiversal Sweepstake", is on a large label. Christmas paper around Brute-grade cardboard, is quickly opened. Eyes blink, fully awake, focus.

"Taylor, is that you? You've grown!"

((Lizards, you knew it would be Lizards...))

And none of that deals with the first and biggest issue: hydro-static shock. When you use a gun to punch anything through the skull, especially if it has enough force to exit the other side, the pressure wave cause is going to absolutely fuck up the brain, bouncing it all over the skull.

Two rounds? That person will be lucky if there's enough viable brain matter to even run the body, let alone have higher thought processes.

If WB had claimed a tinkertech ray gun, some sort of disintegrate ray that targeted the tumors, I'd have been like "who built that?" and "why hasn't anyone used it before?, but I'd have accepted it.

But he chose to use bullets from a gun. As both a hunter and a pathologist, I know damn well that there is no way humanly possible for that to happen without a dozen kinds of trauma.

Maybe, just maybe, if Panacea was standing right there and started work before Taylor hit the ground, you might save the body.

But the person that lived in it? She is gone, every bit as dead as anyone hit with Zion's stilling beam.

I'm not a pathologist, nor am I a deer hunter, and I'm not a regular explosive-propelled missile-weapon user. But. I've seen some very weird things happen, and people survive, minimally injured, from things that my best scientific understanding says should have killed, at least, crippled them. Happened to a relative in WW2, too. Thinking about it, another one, too. Yes, I've seen reports of the reverse, as well. Reality is weird, and people are weirder.

Hydrostatic shock (Wikipedia) - is that all wrong? Also, I could believe .22 ammo being used, and a target pistol, and non-skull penetrating injuries designed to cause specific brain trauma. Then administering of Tinker-tech drugs, now it is safe to get closer. I'm pretty sure if PtV wanted death, there would have been death.

I've have been happier with a drug-loaded dart gun being used, but, no, PtV probably wanted to show-off.

'Worm' is arguably designed to troll readers, and you might want to compare the Garth Ennis 'Preacher' character, who survived attempted (head-shot) suicide by shotgun... Messy. Maybe that provided inspiration? Dunno.

Just when you think you've come to terms with characters that are irredeemable, someone comes up with a way to do just that.

There are any number of different ways that have been done to deal with Coil; however, they all end up being a slightly different take on 'imprisoning/killing a mastermind'. (Outside of one fic where Coil was raising a Bioshaper version of Taylor; he's still a mastermind-type in that one though, so not really good per se). Treating him as a black-ops operative is new, however. It's not redemption per se, but at least he's working for the sheep dogs. Still a wolf though; just one that goes after other wolves.

Strictly, Goddamn Teenagers has him on "community service" (working with Accord and Marquis) rather than in custody.

i haven't read that particular story myself but i can attest from personal experience that "Community Service" does not necessarily mean that you are not in prison. It just means that your security classification is low enough that the prison guards do not have reason to suspect you as a high flight risk. Which of course Coil would be as would any parahuman crime boss. so having them on a work crew outside of the prison would not be happening except through either shenanigans or author contrivance

If 'I've got a Contessa, and I'm prepared to use her', plus, 'Door to Coil' is an option, Uncle Coil might count as someone you can 'trust'... "We've got far bigger issues than you, and do you want to be part of the solution, or a tiny problem we ensure doesn't distract?" and... even Coil might think twice?

I'm glad to see Mr. Pitter is no longer an issue in this story...

You know, I've been thinking about it, and I'd really love to see some backstory. How did Taylor's family end up with the Ruby? Did Annette know about it? Where's the ruby now? Does the PRT know about the ruby, and do they have any interest in it? Why does it seem like Cytorrak cares about Taylor in the time when she first touched the ruby? Etc, etc.

Still begs the question, how did Lustrum get it?
Hmm...
Cytorrak plants it in the world, and a man finds it. This man is called Heracles. Cytorrak chooses to bless him with power and he preforms great feats, gaining fame and eventually immortalized as a minor god - the son of Zeus.
After Heracles dies, the gem is lost for a time. It resurfaces with a new user - this time with a man who takes the name of the god Thor as his own.
After he grows bored (he wins every fight too easily), he passes the gem to a follower who has the bright idea to try to break a piece off of it to 'share' the power out. Cytorrak curses the man with a desire to fight long past normal human limits, creating a berserker. The tribe he was a part of keeps the gem in a special place and sends one or two warriors to become berserkers when they are threatened by a force they cannot stand against normally.
A Roman soldier takes possession of the gem after he alone survives his army killing two berserkers. Cytorrak blesses him as his champion; he takes the name Hercules (the Roman name for Heracles). He does many might deeds, but eventually pisses off the wrong person. The gem is taken from him and hidden in a temple dedicated to Jupiter (he is executed shortly after loosing his power).
There, it sat for several thousands of years, until a team sent by Hitler dug it up (in his interest in old artifacts of power). Indiana Jones appropriated it and gave it to Marcus Brody to put on display in his museum.
After a few decades as a display piece, the museum sold it to a private collector of gems. It exchanged hands several times until it was stolen by a parahuman thief, who could feel power radiating off of it due to her ability to sense such. As she was part of Lustrum's movement, she passed it to her leader. As they didn't know where it came from, or how it was powered, the gem stayed wrapped up and kept secure.
When Lustrum was facing the Birdcage, she passed it to the only one she knew could be trusted with it - Annette.

Interesting take. If Kryslin decides to go that way, then the obvious way to stop Taylor would be to just steal the gem. I think that would be too easy.

True, true. This is little more than a rough draft of an idea that I whipped up in about twenty minutes. I'd need longer to fit it to the story better.

Head cannon is the Lizards are having fun setting up interesting twists on the shitty Worm default.

Or That Lizards effects spread far wider than they thought.

Surely, Lizards are clever and wise, and know what they're doing!

(In TV, I did an omake on the 'Oops Family', who mean well, but... Pity there's only one Varga, so they have to share them with the more normal Family... Poor Lucy, having to wear two nested Suits, just to get by...)

Yes, thank you. I've been working in the medical field for a very long time and there are a number of things like that in Worm where I just go "that is NOT how that works." Mind you, comic book physics is ridiculous but Worm is supposed to be at least a semi-serious deconstruction.

I wonder if there's a (self)contradictory WoG from Wibbles about the 9mm double tap lobotomy?

Anyway...

Contessa attempts the same on Taylornaut.

Taylor barely notices. Contessa will need medical attention from the splinters of shrapnel. Just because Taylor's forcefield has simply stopped bullets dead doesn't mean that's always the case. QA gets pissed at PtV, the bullets will act like they hit the armor belt of the USS Iowa; The armor doesn't notice, and the bullet goes all to pieces. QA simply has the field throw the pieces back at PtV's host.

Contessa receives a note while recuperating: "Armsmaster got my permission to test my invulnerability with a MAAWS M3 recoilless rifle. I have one of the penetrators that splashed on me in my Wards quarters. Armsmaster took the other for analysis. He couldn't get permission from my father and Director Piggot to borrow an M1 tank from Fort Debbens to make an attempt. So please, don't try that again."
