[X] Say goodbye and go home with Kyoko.
-[X] Ask Sayaka to get Homura or Kyoko or Yuma before going out to hunt a witch on her own. Even though she can fight just fine, it's safer to have a friend there to help.
-[X] What do you say to Kyoko?
---[X] Abashedly ask if you said too much to the others: she was uncharacteristically quiet, back there. You think it worked out okay, but if she's mad at you, she has to tell you, okay?
Regrettably, you think it's time to go. Sayaka needs time to think, and pushing any harder would just be rude.
"Well, it was fun talking with you guys," you say. "But I guess it's about time to go our own ways, at least for now."
"Yeah, seems so," says Madoka. "Do you two have a phone, or anything we could use to contact you? Wait, no, the whole… Okay, stupid question."
You laugh, and wave it off. "No worries," you say. "Besides, can't we just talk with telepathy?"
"Would it even work for long-distance?" says Sayaka.
"The city we are currently in is not nearly big enough for calls inside it to be called 'long distance', not under any circumstances," says Homura. "And seeing as how telepathy can be used to contact magical girls in other countries, I believe that it would work perfectly fine for us."
Madoka and Sayaka turn to look at each other, obviously confused.
"It can? But then…" Sayaka trails off, deep in thought. Speaking of Sayaka…
"Hey, Sayaka," you say. "Before we go, Yuma has a favor to ask from you."
"Oh-uh, sure, what is it?" says Sayaka.
"The next time you go hunting a witch, could you call Kyoko, or Yuma, or even Homura for help? Witches can be really tough, even for super-cool people like Big Sis Kyoko. Even though you can fight just fine, it's safer to have a friend there to help."
"I-I'll think about it," says Sayaka. "Still not sure if I like you guys or not, remember? Anyway, see you later."
She walks away, and Madoka waves goodbye as she follows.
It's just you, Kyoko, and Homura now. Homura sighs, rubbing her forehead as she turns her gaze to you.
"I wish you the best of luck, Yuma Chitose and Kyoko Sakura. Do try not to get yourselves killed while I'm gone"
She runs a hand through her hair, flipping it over her shoulder as she turns to walk away. Your senses are on full alert, but you still can't sense any magic being used.
She must be really good at hiding things.
Now that you and Big Sis are alone, you wonder what to say to her. She had been a bit quiet lately. Was she angry at you for saying too much? Did she hate you for giving away to many personal details?
Oh, you sure hope not.
"Well, what're ya waiting for?" says Kyoko, who has rudely started walking in the middle of your internal monologue. "Are you just going to stand there, or are you going to come with me?"
You jog over until you're standing beside her, joining her on her walk. She stays quiet for a few minutes as you tear your mental hair out, trying to figure out what you did wrong.
Well, you were telling Big Sis to be more open about this kind of thing, so you figure you might as well just ask her.
"H-hey, Big Sis?" you say.
"What is it, twerp?"
"Back at the restaurant, you were… you were really quiet. Did I say too much about, you know, everything?"
"Yuma, what are you-"
"Kyoko, are… are you angry with me? Because I-"
Ever rude, Kyoko doesn't wait for you to finish before bursting out in laughter.
"B-Big Sis…"
"Oh, Yuma. You are one weird little hug-monster," says Kyoko. She reaches down, roughly tousling your hair as you try to bat her hands away.
"Soooo… you're not angry at me?"
"No, Yuma, I'm not angry at you."
Whoohoo! Mission success!
"It's just…"
Houston, we have a problem.
Kyoko sighs, running a hand through her hair.
"It's just, you brought up a lot of heavy shit, Yuma. And I'm not angry at you, the situation really did call for it, I'm just… Remembering a few things I don't want to."
So she is sad because of you. Well, poop.
"Then Big Sis, why aren't you angry with me? If I brought up some things that should have stayed down, then shouldn't you- shouldn't you be angry at me?"
There, you said it. You're the first person to say you don't want Big Sis angry at you, but you also know that you must have messed up to get her like this, and you deserve some blame for it.
"Yuma, you don't get it. When you started talking about how we had to do shit to survive, and how we're all alone, it got me thinking. And sure, maybe they weren't happy thoughts, but I don't blame you for making me have them."
"But, I did other things too! I said way too much personal stuff about you, like, like how your parents are dead, or even about you being gay! I, I shouldn't have just said that, but you're acting like it was no big deal!"
"Because it was! Yuma, do you honestly think I'm gonna be mad at you for saying I'm gay?" Kyoko quirks her eyebrow, as if teasing you.
"You don't care? But you really didn't want me to say it, and then you got embarrassed, and, and, you got sad when I mentioned your family, and, and-"
Kyoko interrupts you, crouching down and putting her hands on your shoulders.
"Yuma, calm down. I'm not angry at you, and I shouldn't be angry at you, so just take deep breaths."
You do as she says, shoulders trembling as you breathe in and out. Looking around, you can see that no one's around to see your almost-breakdown.
"Now, Yuma, you've got to listen closely now. I don't care that you said some personal stuff about me. I'm not angry that you brought up my parents, or that you said I was gay, or even that you shouted it at the top of your lungs. I trust you, Yuma, and if you thought that my family was relevant to the argument than it probably was. Hell, you didn't even say what happened to my family, or even that I didn't have one!"
"I-I know, but still… and what about telling them you're gay! You should have done that once you were comfortable enough to say it, not have to watch me scream it at the top of my lungs. Especially after you tried to stop me."
"Oh, you think I care about that? If they're going to make a big issue of it, then better they do it now, before I have the chance to start liking them. And honestly, who the hell cares if some random restaurant people who I'll never see again know that I'm gay? I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, and you shouldn't either."
"But… then why didn't you want me to say anything?"
"Honestly?" she looks around, making sure the path is clear. Leaning down, she whispers in your ear. "I thought you were going to say I had a crush on Sayaka."
Oh.
"But then why were you so embarrassed once I had said something different?" you say. "Unless... Big Sis, did you think they would suspect you're crushing on Sayaka now that they know you're gay?"
"Well, if you think I have a crush on her, what's to say they don't think the same?"
Kyoko's smiling, back to her usual cheery self. That's good, right?
"Big Sis, I think there's a good reason why I think you're crushing on Sayaka, and why you worry about them thinking that. Kyoko is it possible that you… have a crush on Sayaka?"
Kyoko scoffs, thumping you on the back in what you think is supposed to be a friendly gesture.
"Yuma, why are you so hung up on that?"
"Because I want you to be happy, and you seem attracted to her?"
"Oh. Well, that was pretty direct."
Kyoko stretches, looking up at the sky as she balances on the tips of her toes.
"But Big Sis, if hearing Yuma talk about Sayaka all the time is getting on your nerves, then I can stop…"
"Nah, it's not that bad," she says. "And yeah, I guess she is kinda cute…"
Oh?
OHOHOHO?
"WELL WELL WELL WELL, WHAT HAVE WE HERE?" you yell, leaning in as far as you can go.
Kyoko stumbles back, surprised by your sudden closeness, and you step forward to make up for the difference.
"Yuma, what are you-"
"Could it be, just maybe, that my amazing Big Sis has been overpowered by her own Big Gay, and is simply being a whatchamacallit, a tsundere?"
"Yuma, you're being weird,"
"I'M ALWAYS WEIRD!"
Big sis begins chuckling, and you join in on her laughter. The two of you lean on each other for support, too preoccupied with laughter to stand on your own.
Her laughter suddenly cuts out, and you look up to see her carefree smile morphing into a terrible, terrible grin.
"Hey always weird," she says. "I'm Kyoko."
Did she just...
No...
"Kyoko, I don't think I can call you my Big Sis anymore," you say. She's laughing even harder than before, proud of her joke.
Shaking your head, you patiently wait for her eventual return to sanity and hope that someday, somehow, you can find it in yourself to forgive her for this atrocity.
After almost a minute, Kyoko's calmed down.
"So, Yuma," she says. "What should we do now?"
Truly a question for the ages.
You still want to get something done today, but the temptation to go back to the hotel room and watch movies with Big Sis is rather strong. It's been a long.. Day? No, you've only been up for a few hours, and the bit before lunch was rather pleasant. Lunch? Sure, you'll go with that. You've had a long lunch, and some relaxation may be in order.
It is one in the afternoon, and your schedule is free.
