Sacrifice any number of actions per turn to add that many times your full magic modifier to your current defence or attack.
This seems really overpriced. It's basically Laser using MM instead of Base Damage, except that it can also be used defensively.

Considering that our MM grows much more slowly than our Base Damage unless we eat tons of things with A&O, this doesn't seem like something that justifies that high of a cost.

It's a bit more useful if it can be used with spells too, since it's effect would get doubled by Thermal Spears' Double Cast, but it still seems like it's main use would be to situationally sacrifice an action to increase our defense.

In fairness, prices in this Quest are generally higher because of how much EXP you get.
Additionally, this Ability's main quality is being a defensive boost for you; which is understandably more valuable to a DPS like Cerys.

That aside, keep in mind that growing your MM this other way is basically free while increasing damage or defense the normal way is pricey. 850xp is about five levels in any Spell or Infinity Edge, but can sustain you much further in the long run.

I am more amused by the fact you find 850 for that overpriced, but have nothing to say about the other Shop Items.

I know that stuff is more expensive here. I took that into account.

I meant it seems overpriced relative to the other shop items. For example, adding Juggernaut to a big, powerful AOE spell is a huge change that greatly amplifies how good it is at its job, and adding what seems to be an anti-god ability to it is a huge deal and is the kind of thing that should be super expensive and require a high level as a prereq.

The Ignition Aura upgrade I can't comment on because I can never remember how it scales. How 10% of 638 relates to 1340.

And obviously I can't comment on the things with unknown prices :V

As for using Magic Surge defensively, that's primarily useful only if either of the following is the case.
  • Daiyu isn't around to tank and we have far more APT than our opponent has dangerous actions per turn.
  • Daiyu couldn't block an attack aimed at us.
Sure we can burn some actions to massively increase our defense once, but that doesn't actually accomplish anything unless we can do it as often as the opponent can use the attack that forces us to do it while still having some actions left to retaliate.

It's kinda comparable to a low end Skilled/Dodge variant in that respect. More flexible than both, but also weaker than both.

As for actual numbers on defense, right now 850 EXP could give us the ability to burn actions to add 638 defense per action. Against an opponent with two APT that's equivalent to either having 3 actions plus an extra 638 defense or having one action plus an extra 1276 defense.

To contrast with that, 750 EXP dumped into Plate Armor would add 700 extra Base Resilience while keeping 5 actions per turn. Having the DPS spend that much on defense isn't wise, so the fact that it gives a bigger benefit than the new ability does should say a lot.

Of course, getting buffed by Daiyu's (and Una's, once she unlocks it) Knight's Aria does improve the effect of Magic Surge substantially, but even then I'd still generally prefer Skilled or Skillful Dodge defensively.

Two things:

1) Giving you a chance to hide behind your tank in all situations is bad design
2) I said "in the long run"

I could say more about it... but honestly, if nobody else can see the use in this Ability, that is not my problem. It definitely has a wider range of applications than you give it there.

Alas, I am not going to do your work for you by analysing it in detail.

Edit: Two more things
3) Ignition Aura deals [Percentage] x [Level of Thermal Control] in damage. Going from 10% to 20% effectively doubles that.

4) Rukia originally wanted to place the Item at almost twice its current price. Make of that what you want.

Omega is not fast enough for that; it takes a while to ramp up its destructive power after all. The bullet enters its reach in the same second it hits Cerys, so that time is simply not there.
Ignition Aura is the (partially) projectile annihilating stuff. at least that's how it works in my mind with the 15% damage reduction.

[X] Go up
-[X] Attack both sides

Not quite sure if this is a good idea, since we won't really be able to set things on fire up close, so if someone can give me a reason why we shouldn't do this, I will change my vote. Otherwise I think it's a good idea since we can attack both sides at once.
anti air artilleries.

going anywhere that leaves us open to their targeting system will kill us.

It would never work, but technically our mission is just to survive, not to fight anything.

Survival without fighting is a technical success :V

I can imagine how Magic Surge can get overpowered fairly quickly. At a glance it seems like a great technique for a desperate/last defense or attack. And in fights where Cerys has back up to defend her and take the attention away from her while she builds up the Surge. If I'm not getting the mechanics wrong.

[X] Go Right

I don't particularly care as long as we get into the middle of enemy forces, but I'm still feeling a little peeved at Karen.

X] Go Right
-[X] Keep the flames up in your whole reach and don't stop them from spreading outward; always stay under cover of your fire and keep moving
--[X] Fly either at ground level or higher, depending on how high you can get the fire
--[X] Ask Omega to eat anything incoming except your fire. You need that.
-[X] Prepare Thermal Spears during idle time and rain down volleys on armoured or protected units coming close to your inferno

...guys, I do believe you should give some instructions to Cerys. I will smack Rukia for trying to make her do something obviously stupid, but there are a lot of things Cerys might not think about. This is, by Gaia's words, "the thick of the fighting". I doubt you will get away with just pointing her at a target and saying to wreck it.

...oh well

No automatic targeting can get Cerys if she is hidden in an inferno. If they target her with magic, we never had a chance in the first place. Hiding or being stealthy was out the moment we were dropped in, so going loud is not going to change much.

Fair enough, I can't think of anything to add, so I'll roll with that for the moment.

"Better than yours." You grunt as your sister smirks, reaching over to ruffle her hair, ignoring her squawks as you let sand trickle from your hand as you do so. "Old people like you can't to it right!"

Despite your musing, you keep a careful hold over the temperature in your grasp, never letting either of them slip away. I could let my sword burn my castle, but there is no way they wouldn't think it was intentional. Passing off the idea with a shrug, you look over at their pile of sand and nod. About the right height. Stepping back, you look at your mound of sand, then back to your sword. I bet I could... Your sister catches your look and pauses, glancing at her partner, who nods with a little smile. Alright then, show me your swordsmanship Una. You never would have thought that you'd be having a content over who could cut a sandcastle into shape the best, but life was strange.

The two of you move off of the beach, taking shelter beneath a shaded bench, lying willow down with her head resting on your lap.
typos @Rukia

Addendum to this: There is a manual on the front page, at the bottom of the character sheet, that explains how these work.
Otherwise, if you don't understand, please ask.

The Manual

Spending XP

There are currently two ways to spend XP.

The first is by purchasing additional levels in any ability/spell Cerys already possess. The cost for this is [Current Level] * 10 with multiple levels being calculated sequentially.

The second is by purchasing new abilities/spells from the shop. The availability of various potential purchases depends upon in game events, previous purchases, and occasional the level of existing abilities/spells.

Stats

Health:
Base of 100. Each level of Armoured Soul increases health by 200.

Base Damage:
Each level of Infinity Edge increases Base Damage by 140. Reinforcement increases damage by 5% per level.

Base Resilience:
Each level of Plate Armour increases Base Resilience by 140.

Magic Modifier:
Base Magic Modifier is 10. Each level of Infinity Edge increases MM by +50.

......to easy to forget that the manual contains things other than basic, generic mechanics. Stuff about the system itself, not any particular characters.

you'll need it if you want your vote to count.

Remind me please - what is our APT progression in here? It doesn't seem to be a 1+1/5 levels, since we'd only have 4 attacks for now.

Same question for the other characters - their weapon seems to be missing this trait.
