Magical Girl Quest - The Fire That Burns

No, you aren't getting Write In privileges back.
What about curated write-ins? Basically people can put forth a suggestion they think might be a good idea, and you use your QM powers of discretion to either approve or disapprove it. OOC this would basically be a veto power to help keep things on the rails. IC this would be the characters own bias affecting the outcome of a vote.

Maybe at some point in the future, but not right now.
I'll revisit the thought after a week or two.

I will say though thank you @Rukia for reversing this particular fuck up. And sorry I didn't vote. I would have kiboshed the hug idea right quick if I"d realized people were actually voting for it...

For future reference, if you are going to make a joke/crack vote, put a J or a Q in the box instead of an X to signify that it is a joke. Otherwise SV will take it as an open invitation to shut off their brains.
Never, I'm a firm believer in thread darwinism. This was a valuable learning experience for the 2/3rds that voted for some variation of "hug it"

If you read what they posted closer, you'd note that write ins aren't an option unless specifically stated. Not no longer an option ever.

So you put forth a vote and made it legitimate intending to deliberately sabotage the quest the quest should it succeed in order to make a point?

Because that sounds like the kind of asshole behaviour that brings down modly wrath...

I for one honestly would not have minded in the slightest if the update didn't get reversed.

But I'm perfectly cool with seeing a quest go down a route that other people would find really depressing (if the QM is up for actually writing that).

Hell, I even would have been cool with a "Una actually died for good" outcome.

Seriously. Not a fan of losing Write-in Privileges because some of the better write ins have been fantastic.
On the other hand, there's this whole everything, so end of the day? I can accept that decision.

Also thank you, @Rukia, for nipping that whole timeline in the bud. I was not looking forward to Cerys deciding she couldn't even trust Gaia or something as ridiculous as that.
I do hope you save it as non-canon, though; there are a lot of horrifying/fun little stories people could write off that.

"Una being dead for good" is not a good outcome though. Remember that Una is Cerys' entire motivation. She does things so her sister can be safe and happy.
Cerys Post-Una would be either suicidal, or a psychotic time-bomb only being delayed until it can cause the most devastation. It would have been short, sad, and unpleasant, both to read and to write.

Once Una grows up and Cerys can move away from 'one-person-world' to living for herself, then it'd be a compelling and interesting development. As it stands now, everything would just end there. The same could be said if Cerys dies instead; Una growing up to overcome everything in the memory of her sister would also be acceptable.
As it stands right now, Una dying would lead to the direct and miserable end of the story due to the main character flipping the table and rage-quitting.

I never said it would be fun for any of the characters. Just that it would be entertaining to witness as a player/reader.

Potentially even Cerys going full Omnicidal Maniac in an effort to destroy Gaia's weapon (Humanity) because she can't attack Gaia directly, making it so that when the barrier finally falls and the UD invades, there's already nobody around any more.

Read what I posted more closely before tossing names around? Or rather, don't just add in extra bits to what I say? (For whatever reason you did so.)

The fact the puppy vote existed is my fault, yes. The fact a bandwagon jumped on it isn't; I spent no time promoting the vote, and there was even another vote focusing more on the fluffy bit (Which you posted after the tally that you wanted to vote for, for the record.) Unless you're claiming that I somehow knew/should have known that A: A canine beast obviously connected to gaia (because it stumbled when we thought it was cute) would tear the throat out, and that B: The vote would actually win, please retract that. And if I should have known A, Why were you voting for a similar vote in the first place?

And I stand by that it was a valuable learning experience - the thread knows now, that even though a monster may be considered cute, be linked to an ally.... Still don't let Una hug it.
edit: For reference
Damnit! I was gonna vote for Majestic Fluffy!

While I can see how you came to it, that is actually a wrong conclusion.

Why would Gaia's reaction to the pretty comment result in the beast stumbling? There has been no point in this quest where a thought caused Gaia to stumble, and when you consider the fact that she hears all of humanities thoughts, if a comment like that could cause that type of reaction with Gaia in a body she is controlling she'd stumble all the time.

It was a hint at the Spiritbound being able to pick up the thoughts, not that the Spiritbound was connected to Gaia.

edit: To be clear, I am not trying to gang up on you, since it seems the thread is kind of hard on you right now, but rather I am just clarifying a misunderstanding.

And here we see the forum sociopath in his natural habitat, a quest on the border of horrible depression. Watch as they seek to push the quest and it's players over the edge, unable to comprehend that they might not want to see the characters suffer...

Yes? The majestic fluffy vote involves trying to negotiate, not running up and trying to fucking assault the wolf with a hug. And if you were reading the update, you would have maybe noticed that the most distressing part for the wolf a story Una fucking grabbing it around the neck to try and hug it.

(Also as someone who has trained a dog from a puppy, hugging dogs that haven't been acclimated to it is intensely distressing for them because it comes across as an attack.)

Staying back and trying to talk would have gone infinitely better than that. Even if the votes had similar themes of 'doggo! :D' yours was a lot dumber.

And you didn't do anything to promo the vote no. But you could have maybe gone out to say 'that wasn't meant to be serious please don't vote for it guys'? Or something to discourage people from making stupid decisions?

Except of course you wouldn't because you goddamn cheered when the vote won.

More that I just find it to be something interesting to see, simply because I've never seen a quest go the "fuck up made everything go horribly depressing" route before.

It's interesting for the novelty.

Maybe you could have voted against it if you think it was such a bad idea - oh wait, you didn't come to the thread before it closed. Neither did I. I checked the thread and found that it won. The "Huehuehue" should have been a pretty clear indicator that the post wasn't serious, even if the rest of the post wasn't clear.

And I'm noting that you are entirely ignoring the questions about A and B. Nothing to say, just want to keep on attacking me?

Huh. Hadn't considered that, honestly.

And I don't feel like the thread is ganging up on me, especially not your post. It's cleanly explained and logical. I don't disagree that the vote wasn't the best idea; most people are just unhappy that it won at all, and calling the general pool of voters for it stupid. Only one guy is being less than happy and trying to take it out on me, so far as I can tell. (The cussing is a major tip off, I must admit.)

I was at work, what's your excuse?

But no, I'm done, I just don't like your attitude towards this is all. If I were in your shoes I would have at least apologized for putting forwards a silly vote at a moderately serious moment, especially one that ended so badly even if it was neither intentional nor expected, and the fact that you haven't bothers me.

But that's personal opinion, so I apologize for trying to pressure you on the basis of my own standards of politeness and retract my less than kind prior statements.

Oh come on, if he is being a troll then he understands that just fine. He just isn't batting for the side of rightiousness. Being a jerk and not having a theory of mind are pretty different issues.

And honestly this result does mean the thread has learned something.

You mean that doing a dumb is a bad idea when that should be common sense but we're talking about SV's quest userbase so oh well?

I actually rather like the abrupt shift..though it is confusing.

(Had to catch up.)

DO (NOT) PET THE DOG
You resist the urge to run over to the wolf and find out if it is as cuddly as it looks, instead you step back and crouch, drawing your arms back and pointing your sword forwards. The beast immediately stabilises, huffing and shaking it's head as it goes back to pacing, one of it's glowing eyes always on you. Knew it, ticksy little wolfie won't trick me. You smile as you hop forwards slightly, squinting your eyes for a moment. Eh, it's probably close enough. Taking one hand from your sword, you take a deep breath as you step forwards, planting your foot in a mighty pose of LOVE and JUSTICE.

"I CAST YOU FROM THIS REALM FOUL BEAST, FALL BEFORE THE MIGHT OF MY OVERWHELMING JUSTICE!" You bend your knee slightly, pulling on the thread of magic, the connection still shaky. Eh, good enough. "END IN THE PARADOX OF GOOD AND EVIL." Despite Thanks to your terrible awesome callout, it seems distracted enough not to notice the build-up of magic, instead tilting it's head at your shouts. Good doggy, just stay riiiight there- The spell finishes, magic vanishing from your hold and into nothingness. You don't see the effects straight away, but you see the wolf react to them.

(Paradox: +150 Base Damage, +12 Dice = 162 Total Damage
Spiritbound Wolf: +40 Base Resilience, +2 Dice = 42 Total Reduction Unstoppable

Spiritbound Wolf Health: 500 - 162 = 338)

It lets out a loud yelp as your spell takes form, a brief shimmer all that's visible to your eyes. Whoa. You can feel the distortion, like someone had punched the world in the dick and the world was very much displeased with this. Pff. The distortion ends and the wolf immediately charges at you with a staggered gait, one of it's legs refusing to move as chunks of it's wooden flesh slough off. You step back and grab your sword, preparing to stab forwards as it closes.

When it gets close enough, it leaps forwards, going from several metres away to rightinmyfaceohgodwhat-

(Cuifen: +180 Base Damage = 180 Total Damage
Spiritbound Wolf: +40 Base Resilience, +6 Dice = 46 Total Reduction

Spiritbound Wolf Health: 338 - 134 = 204)

A wrapped fist passes over your head, slamming the enormous beast into the floor as Cuifen steps next to you. You pause in awe, looking up at her with wide eyes before she nudges you, pointing back at the growling pile of wood. "Take advantage of opportunity." You look down at it, smiling when you see that the bad leg stops it from standing up again. "Strike where your enemy is weakest." You nod, leaning forwards as you stab at its hind leg, as much magic mustered as you can.

(Eternal Eclipse: +58 Base Damage, +16 Dice, -8 Unskilled = 66 Total Damage
Spiritbound Wolf: +40 Base Resilience, +3 Dice, -15 Tripped = 28 Total Reduction

Spiritbound Wolf Health: 204 - 38 = 166)

"HAA!" You shout loudly as the tip of your sword connects, digging into the join between the leg and the hip. It doesn't get very far, the tough wood stopping it quickly, but when you wrench it free something snaps and a cracking noise echoes out. Cuifen immediately drags you back, pulling your dangerously overextended head out of the reach, its teeth clamping shut around air. Meep. You don't squeak as Cuifen lets you go, nudging you back as the downed wolf growls angrily at you.

"Worry not, is no danger now." She places a hand on your head as she speaks, the gem on her ear glowing very gently. You turn to look and see why, the injured leg is jammed in place and the wolf drags itself towards you very slowly with it's front paws. "Careful not to drop guard, a desperate animal strikes the hardest." You nod as you eagerly stare at the battered wolf, humming as you see the... damage that it had sustained from your spell. There was no one way to describe it apart from damage, it looked like it had been burnt, frozen, cut, hammered, exploded and melted at the same time.

Holes in the side of it's heaving chest let you see that the inside fared significantly worse than the outside, internal organs sloshing around in the now empty space as a thick soup, little dribbles of melty blood leaking through the cracks. Wooow, I didn't think it would be that strong! You bounce a little as you get exited over your power. Yes, first wolfie, next the world, then my sister! Ehehehehe- Your plotting is interrupted by a gentle tap on your head. Turning your eyes up, Cuifen is looking down at you with an amused smile. "Do not play with your opponent Una, it will give you bad habits."

You blink, remembering all of those times that the villain almost won, but stopped to gloat. "Oh, yeah." You turn to your target, building up magic. "Sorry." You clear your throat as you cast your spell, shifting into an appropriately heroic stance. "BEGONE FOUL BEAST." You unleash your spell and the world warps again.

(Paradox: +150 Base Damage, +22 Dice = 172 Total Damage
Spiritbound Wolf: +40 Base Resilience, +2 Dice = 42 Total Reduction Unstoppable

Spiritbound Wolf Health: 166 - 172 = -6)

Your foe lets out a mighty howl, shaking the earth slightly as it falls apart before your eyes. Even after its body turns to sludge, some of it simply vanishing into nothing, the glowing eyes remain. They slowly fade away as you stare at them, zipping off into the distance as you blink. Umm. It didn't die? You pout suppress your slight disappointment, turning back to Cuifen. praisemepraisemepraisemepraiseme. She ruffles the hand on your head, smiling down at you. "You have bested your opponent, congratulations." You begin to smile back, but she continues. "And destroyed body entirely."

You hold your finger up in question before you realise. Ah. Needed ingredients. You look at the large pile of sludge, some of it still burning faintly. Oops? If you had kitty ears, they would be drooping right now. Oooh, later. You prod the pile of goop, pulling your finger up and watching it drip off of it. "Maybe she can use this?" Cuifen's amused expression doesn't fade as you scoop it up in your hands while she grabs a handful of petals, spending the entire walk back wishing you had brought a jar and trying not to spill any. And plotting tolerating her amusement.

Gaia is waiting for you on the porch, relaxing in a chair that wasn't there when you left. You march right up to her and hold your hands out, letting her see your cargo. "Got the things." Cuifen helpfully holds up her handful of pink petals behind you.

You can't quite place the look on her face, but it lies somewhere between incredulity and amusement. Lots of people seem to be amused at you lately. Must be cause I'm so awesome. You gently slide the pile of goop into her hands, stepping back and letting Cuifen drop the petals on top.

You look down at the floor, scuffing your feet a little when she just stares at you, glancing between the pile of goop and you. Please be fine please work sister needs this to work and not fail because I broke it an- "Well, a little unconventional, but I guess it will do." You hear something tinkle and look up, watching her slide the mess into a glass jar, her hands perfectly clean. She stands up and shifts the jar to one arm, smiling down at you as she boop's you on the nose. "I have everything your sister needs, good job Hero, you saved the day."

You let out a high pitched noise as you grab her by the waist and hug her tightly and squeeze her for all your little reinforced arms are worth. She lets you hug her, looking distinctly pale and short of breath as she pats your head, letting it rest there as you bounce on the spot. "Sis is going to be fine right? You said this would make her fine, she needs to be ok and how did she get hurt she shouldn't be hurt iamgoingtohavewordswithdaiyuwhenshegtsback
ifshewantstodatemysistershebetterkeephersafedammit.
"

You pant a little as you finish, the tips of your ears pinking at the warm laughter coming from around you. Burying your head in Gaia's stomach, you ignore it and hope it will go away. "Alright Hero, you need to let me go so I can go and make this." You pout as you reluctantly let go, turning and shoving your face into Cuifen's warm stomach instead. It's not as soft as Gaia's, but you don't mind, muscles are comfy too.

You get the feeling that she is smirking at you when she speaks. "Need to let go so I can move." That's alright, you don't need to move, her abs are comfy. "Una?" Her gaze is heavy on the top of your head, but you just grip her tighter. She sighs, but just shifts your feet on top of hers, awkwardly crab walking back inside the house without dislodging you. You curl up on her lap when she sits down, absentmindedly listening to the clinking of glass and strange wooshing noises from the kitchen.

They tempt you to look over, but if you you'll have to move your head from it's current position of very comfortable. Mmm, no. You close your eyes and get comfortable, smiling as Cuifen leans back to accommodate you. Second, no, third best pillow ever. You hum as you consider the benefits of a soft stomach over a muscled stomach, then wonder if Sabina is one or the other. She looks kinda sporty, but really small. I bet she's soft. Nodding slightly to yourself, you make a mental note as to your next target.

/LINE BREAK\

You dream of blood, of a crushing grip and desperate struggles.

You dream of failure, of never saving your sister, of leaving her alone.

It hurts.

But that's alright, sis is here now.

She's always here.

You press a hand to your chest, smiling slightly as you feel the warm pulsing of something not yours.

I will never leave you.
/LINE BREAK\

Mmm? You slowly open your eyes, blinking slowly when the fireplace shines brightly in your vision. This stomach is familiar. You hum as you shift, sniffing slightly as you try to identify it. It smells like, Cerys? But this is... You look up, a sea of shock white hair hanging down over you as a familiar hand runs through your hair. Mmm. You are almost tempted to close your eyes, but sis is here. "Better now?" You mumble the words as clearly as you can, almost losing the second to her lap.

The hand in your hair shifts slightly and you feel a warm breath on the back of your neck. "Yes, sis is fine now." She leans down and presses her face against your hair, her body hanging over you in a comfortably familiar way. "I'm so very proud of you." You feel like you are floating, warm fuzzy feelings overtaking everything. "You'll be getting extra training tomorrow as punishment."

The warm fuzzies settle in your chest, your heart abumpadumping as you smile. "You promise?

Her fingers tickle your nape as she stokes you. "All day." She presses a kiss to the top of your head, sitting up afterwards. "But first, say hello to our new guest." You reluctantly crack an eye open, looking in the direction of the kitchen. Sitting on a chair is a massive suit of armour, sipping tea through the front of it's helmet with an air of nobility. You blink, rubbing the sleep out of your eyes to make sure you are seeing things right.

When he is still there, you slowly look up at your sister, an expectant smile on her face.
