Magical Girl Quest - The Fire That Burns

[X] Don't
-[X] Ask Morgan what she's thinking about, and why Karen would trick us.

Okay so 2 things I've gathered from this update.
First: We, Cerys, capital-letter Care about Morgan and her opinion.
Second: We are cheerfully trusting a group we were just told not to trust because it stirs up the most drama.

Let's take a moment, cool our heads, and get more info before blowing up half of England in a fit of pique. Has Karen ever given us a reason not to trust her?

Edit:
Only Salt lies that way.
You're in an online community that forces the community to both interact with eachother and make choices for a story. You are saying 'only salt lies that way' while ankle deep in the Dead Salt Sea.

What is the point of this comment?

I was interjecting Humour into what was otherwise me warning someone off of being aggressive, to make the message easier to swallow.

I don't buy forgetting how vows works...like its possible, but feels way too convenient.
Yes, it is convenient. But some things just are.
Because, again, it was never reiterated and Cerys obviously considered the matter done and over with once Morgan told her she can not be tricked into anything with those.

Something Something first friend ever.

Cerys does not trust the Counter Force. Where do you take that from? Just because she does not go "and fuck you, too" towards Annabelle does not mean she suddenly will believe everything or trust her.
She did not agree to anything, did not make any promises. The only thing Cerys said was that she would think about their offer. Which is one of the most basic strategies in negotiation: to not flat-out agree or disagree before you had time to think things through.

What stirs up the drama is her finding out that the person she did trust, Karen, is playing games behind her back.

@Rukia , can you answer what exactly "Don't" entails? Is it "Don't go in" or "Go in calmly and talk to her"?
The two options given are "Karen gets to talk to a barely restrained and fuming Cerys" and "Karen gets to talk to a furious and shouting Cerys".

Eh. It still feels very lazy to me. And not in Rukia's style.
It is mostly just conservation of detail. We brought it up back then and Rukia remembered that we did.
And then no one remembered that it was already mentioned when it became relevant again. Cerys is allowed to forget things as well.

Besides... I can see why you say it feels lazy. Considering that I knew about the matter for a while now, I am probably more focussed on how well the actual reveal went and how unexpected it hit.

Err, what? There was a vote when people could have brought it up? It wasn't really relevant until this post.

Ok, if this is really what's going on: Ceres just forgetting that she already knew this. Then, I just kind of think it's a lame thing to pull as QM or author.

If this was a more "sim"/"gamist" I would be a lot more ok with it. ( Well for some kinds of game like quests.)

For those saying 'we asked for something unbreakable and she gave us a vow' or something along those lines, I have to ask:
Is there unbreakable vows in this setting?
This could just be her giving us the next best thing

[x] Don't

"I know more about this sort of thing than you do, let me help." Hearing her actually beg you to let her come along pokes at that ugly mass of feelings and stops you from just prying her hand off.

Her gaze doesn't waver from yours. She'll follow me if I tell her no, won't she?

You let out a long breath, a tiny smile slipping onto your face. "Put your shoes on." She immediately drops to her knees, dragging her still muddy sneakers from the shoebox. You pretend not to notice that she's practically glowing as she tries to keep a serious face.
This, we really should interact with Morgan more, I feel like she's lonely in a sense that we don't talk to her like did with Una and Daiyu. Also I hope its a way where your first friend say her piece about the Una issue.

Exactly. No one thought it was relevant. With each and every write-in offered, someone could have brought it up. Rukia gives the players absolute freedom to do what they want. If they do not use it, this is on them. And yes, this includes me because I did not think of it, either.

Is there unbreakable vows in this setting?
Edit: Of note, the Ability "Geas" does a -somewhat- unbreakable vow
Geas: Creates a pact for the afflicted that they have to follow through on, otherwise they suffer a stacking malus to their stats. Such as needing to give all your attacks stupid names.

Technically no. There are, however, Geas, which can have somewhat more... tangible effects upon being broken than "oh by the way, this guy just reneged".

Alright then.

Point is, "Geas" is probably the closest one can get to unbreakable.
And yes, Karen knows about this.
Short of out and out mind control there's really no way to make a promise truly unbreakable, in which case why are you bothering extracting a promise anyway when you can just mind control them?
Geas and False Vows basically operate by making it undesirable for someone to break that promise.

That aside, seeing that I do not know what is going to happen next, I am allowed to vote.

[X] Ask Morgan what she's thinking about, and why Karen would trick us.

And I like this.

I wonder if this a valid vote.

I wonder if this a valid vote.
Seeing that Rukia has not GM-vetoed it, I would guess that it is.

I'm sure there are more votes than that. One sec.

But it wasn't relevent. People cant vote in the middle of an update, and it went from unimportant to super important, in the middle of an update.

[Z] Metaphorically Kick the fucking door down

[X] Ask Morgan what she's thinking about, and why Karen would trick us.

My opinion on "Don't" is that it's a "Don't kick the fucking door down" option.
My opinion on Karen's promise is that she is probably still on the level with us.
My opinion on Annabelle is that she is a canny bitch, and here is why:

I believe it to be true that nobody who fires the first shots is willing to back down and negotiate after going so far as to paint the opponents as international terrorists.
Therefore, from the outset, this farce of an "apology" has exactly one purpose - shake up the volatile tyke bomb to weaken her caretaker's position.

My answer to Annabelle will probably be:
"I cannot take up your offer at this time. So long as no blood of mine is spilled and my sister isn't harmed, I might consider it once the war is over. If you do win."
Basically, assert that you currently have to reason to HATE the Counter Force, and might cooperate in the future - but right now, you aren't interested.

Also, a small reminder (from two updates) - the war was always going to come. Here's our reaction:
Karen lets out a little chuckle, her lips twitching upwards. "It's good you are honest, this is no time to be indecisive." She shifts her jaw slightly before continuing, voice a quiet, sad thing. "This will be bad, a war beyond describing, modern man and magic waging total war against one-another." Her eyes go distant and her voice falls to a whisper. "By the hand of man, the world will burn." She turns to look at you, face set. "And what shall rise from the ashes?"

[] Your Answer...

"I don't know, but you can bet me and my sisters will be there to see it." The words come to you without thought.

Karen smiles a soft, slightly crooked smile at you. "Yes... I suppose so." She slowly rests back into her chair at your words, looking like she has decided on a question that has long been bothering her. "I should have expected nothing less from you." She nods, taking a quick sip of her tea before hopping to her feet. You stare at her back as she pads towards the wall, a miniscule pule of magic and eight quick taps later, it parts before her like water. She looks over her shoulder at your stationary form, lifting an eyebrow at you.
