Resolved myself to catch up on stuff today and I am gonna do it!
OK, off the cuff, very interesting premise, I think you did a solid job on the technical side of things, seriously, your writing is excellent on these fronts and a joy to read. I do feel Jac came off as a bit... bellowing compared to his snakey manner in canon, but otherwise I think it was quite solid and his emphasis on family fit the character, and Ruby made for fascinating and saddening reading, kudos!
Crossover characters on there own team with eachother or mixing up the canon teams to form new teams featuring characters from both sides of the crossover?
I think it all depends on the story one wants to tell and what feels like it makes sense.
Remnants of the Void (FoZ/RWBY) by
@TheMagisKing, while not quite to that stage yet, seems well set up to have the crossover characters be folded into their own team and to likely skip initiation. IE, the team would just be a pretense its mostly just so they can be at Beacon for other reasons.
In contrast, if you say, dropped some of the Nerima Wrecking Crew into RWBY and no one knew what the hell was up, and they were only at Beacon for their own reasons, splitting them up and shuffling the teams would make sense and still ensure plenty of play by play from different cast members.
What do you guys think of it?
I confess its not exactly my style of idea, but that's a me thing, not a point on quality. Regarding the question of All-Might, I think one could still have him be the/a top hero in terms of power, prestige and presentation. IE, he's friendly, charismatic, deeply heroic in a way that appeals to crowds and could still easily be Japans top heroe and likely in the worlds top 3.
Can't comment over-much on the idea but I love the use of Nightmare Grimm!
Ruby Rose: No knives, no scythes, no…nothing? Guess it's more of a family heirloom.
Ruby: I can give you tips to make your guns cooler if you like!
Faunus, no rather it's Fanalis. The people of the dark continent have begun to appear. Grimm should run in fear. Red lions are the greatest of Hunters.
Fun summary and concept, I am intrigued!
I'm leaning into post Beacon, for both the reasons you said as well as putting RWBY/RNJR on somewhat more equal footing with the X-Men in terms of experience. So the X-Men would get Mistral as their first taste of Remnant heaven help them.
Already commented but I really feel more fics should explore these periods of time, there's a lot of room to play around there I feel.
Oh without a doubt. She even has glowy eyes.
Given how she talks when she uses said powers, I am half imagining Raven being like "Ugh, so extra" while Cinder's subtly jotting down notes because Storm makes using magic look even more epic.
Do you think there was a period during the Faunus Rights Revolution when an event similar to the real-life Paris Commune occurred in either Mistral or Mantle?
(Or a "People's Republic of Treacle Mine Road" for Discworld fans.)
I could definitely see something like that occurring during the FFR, or perhaps during the Great War, though FFR feels more fitting as there's more room to play around there. But generally revolts and massive civil unrest are times where such things can happen more easily.
Spoiler: Ripples Across the Pond
Already reviewed but still a huge fan of this concept and execution.
this made me think that this was a AU where summer was a crime boss lol
I recall a fic discussed back in the V3 era where Ruby died and reincarnated in Summer on a mission which led to Tai dying and Summer building a counter conspiracy to Cinder, but cos she didn't know about stuff like Oz & Co and other things she didn't loop them in on it and so they thought Summer was suspicious and kept her out of their loop and so there were like 3 or more conspiracies all operating in Vale at one time. That was the idea anyway not sure if more than the intro was written.
Old post is old, but excellent points and insights all round, very much agreed.
(Was wondering if it's possible for Blake or Sienna's loyalists to discover Tukson's body in some other fanfic.)
One of my fics has a similar idea, though in this case it was Sienna contacting Tuckson on a whim prior to his death because she felt reports from Vale were a bit weird and realizing something deeper was happening and as a result undercuts Adam and Cinder's plan.
A chuckle escaped Yang's throat. <<Ah, calm your non-existent tits, White. I can smell my payday already!>>
I found the world building to be quite fascinating, though some of the dialogue such as the above felt kind of off, but otherwise this was an intriguing and engaging read!
I don't think we have a Battlebots AU for RWBY yet!
Like, if Ruby was in the modern world you could be this kind of thing would be right up her ally!
Heck it could even be a Nuts n Dolts thing with Ruby partnering with Polendina Robotics!
Same, but yeah I could totally see Ruby & Yan being super into this stuff, with Yang maybe moving more onto bikes and races while Ruby stuck with the gnashing metal monsters fun times. I'm unsure if Penny herself knows much about robotics, but I could totally see Ruby having a connection with her though them, or Pietro and or Battle Bots ETC regardless and there being no shortage of fun.
That was not brought up in the musical, but yes Ody did try to get out of participating in the Trojan War because an oracle prophesised a long delayed return home. Given his beloved wife had given birth to their son not long before it is perfectly understandable for Ody not want to leave home.
As an idle aside, but if he'd just walked he'd have been home in like two weeks XD
Thought this idea was Oscar falling at first XD
I can see the comparison otherwise but not sure what to do with it.
Given Yang's mother and them living on Dragon Roost Island I'd have figured she'd be with the Rito XD
BUT, I digress.
I bring this all up because it got me thinking.
How would some of you go about a RWBY/Fairy Tail crossover?
Where would both worlds be at in their stories at the time of the crossover?
Would it be a newly formed RWBY meeting Lucy who has just joined Fairy Tail?
Would it be a Team RWBY ready for the Vytal Festival finding themselves smackdab in the middle of the Battle of Fairy Tail?
Would Team RWBY learn
Magic?
Could Team Natsu go around Remnant without issue or would their be complications like when they were on Edolas?
I never watched Fairy Tale so I can't comment over much sadly, but I do think these are interesting questions to come at crossovers with in general. Though as it is with a lot of things, I feel any answer would be incredibly malleable; like how I had it be that Aura exists on Azeroth in Worlds Bound by Shadow but was so rarely discovered and the species soul structure so unique that it wasn't well known and not easy to awaken by Remnatnians.
I made a meme to go along with this fanfic idea, so I will share he tumblr post:
Just realized this could also work for a RL world AU.
A idea based off of
11/22/63.
To those not in the known, the basic outline is a man finds a way to go back in time to stop the Kennedy Assassination among other changes, only to create a even worst future than before and so must go back again and set things right.
So I have the idea of of someone who goes back in time to just before the Great War, and by some means, stop the war from starting in the first place, only to find he caused a much worst world in doing so.
A second idea is a background student of Beacon Academy goes back in time and stop the Fall, only to again screws everything over. Much more recent, but all the same.
Both ideas have potential even if I find the concept of the original story rather deterministic there is potential in the concept.
Great War:
Preventing this is both easy and hard in the sense that one could likely stop the initial spark that finally set off the powder keg but that this would not necessarily stop the war from happening unless they had the ear of someone very powerful. Still, if we assume 'peace' lasts, I think basically Vacuo is slowly eaten by Mantle and Mistral, leaving Vale alone and ultimately, those in power moving to hand the kingdom over for their own benefit once the king dies.
Mantle's oppressive influence and Mistral's exploitation run rampant and eventually cause the degradation of most major kingdoms/settlements, that gets compounded with ongoing rebellions from Faunus trying to avoid slavery and insurgent groups against Mantle & Mistral oppression leading to brutal reprisal until everything just starts crumbling as these systems eat themselves with every nation slowly dying a death by a thousand cuts.
Fall of Beacon:
Heavily dependent on how much one even knows, if one knows basically nothing save what caused the initial Grimm spikes then stopping it is plausible, but Cinder could orchestrate some other disaster, possibly even the falling of Amity Arena which would be akin to a natural disaster at a minimum, just to provide an example.
Yang sent her a frustrated look and Blake raised her hands. "Right, right, serious time, got it."
Pfft, parental Bees, love it.
"She'd rob a bank with you if you asked. Getting her to go on a date with you proves nothing."
I mean, she's not exactly wrong in that assessment XD
Me: ask Emerald, ask Emerald!!!
Anyway funny snip XD
Or at least have Aura levels so weak that its practically nonexistent and cannot be expressed?
I think one of the villains from the novels has an Aura like that.
@mcclay has a new White Fang quest up and running. Anyone interested?
Seems interesting, some of the world building changes sur[rise but also intrigue me (Like Kali's emphasized position) I'm a touch... Not leery but suspicious of the somewhat utopians feeling framing for the "Let all we commoners unite" angle, as for all that many real world movements professed such things, they rarely ever actually backed them up. That is to say, critique of Sienna's faction for pyritizing their species struggle VS a class struggle feels a touch unfair unless an equally critical lens is turned on the consequences and baggage of working with humans.
started thinking about RWBY/Spider-man recently
and I realized that you can not easily slot RWBY characters to Spider-man characters.
BUT
Ruby as Spider and Cinder becoming Venom is a rather amusing thought.
To be fair, there's like... OK there's a lot of Spiderman characters, but not a lot in a way that could easily form say, a team, so yeah it is kind of a struggle unless one gets very funky with it I think.
Cinder: I have been going towards a more black aesthetic recently so this works.
How durable are some of the Alpha Grimm? (Hound doesn't count in this scenario.)
As Pugman said it depends on the Grimm, but we know that the Megoliath can tanks multiple missiles and keep on trucking, but do have somewhat weak underbellies, their Alpha contemporaries are even more durable, able to tank Penny's lazer and just keep pushing through. Arrowfell also has them able to convincingly play dead, with the one in the opening taking a lot of damage and smoking, then collapsing, before getting back up for round 2, and needing a coordinated Four Huntress surprise attack to bind and then kill it, which even still required going inside it to avoid the armor.
These are probably the toughest 'regular' Grimm we see, with another lesser version being the Boarbatusk which can also tank a lot of damage even in a juvenile state. Similarly the Death Stalker, even regular one's are durable as hell given one cornered JNPR, and we know from the Emerald Forest fight an Alpha Nevermore can survive multiple bazooka rounds without taking real damage so I'd put it second to the the Megoliath in terms of demonstrated durability, though its close in competition with the Sea Feilong which required massive high impact cannons to pierce it, but that required it being distracted, made immobile and then stabbed through the side by a ship like it was Ursula from My Little Mermaid with said canons being like a few dozen meters from its head when fired and we have no idea if that's even an Alpha or not.
The Tempest may look like jellyfish but they can conjure their own storms and wrestle Atlesian battleships to the ground so, they also rank high. Though like with a lot of things the underbelly is their weak spot.
