The thing that troubles you, is this: His loyalty to the Revolution, to the ideas that it champions, along with his independent attitude, and ability to say no to Napoleon… may cause a great deal of friction between him and Napoleon. He is a masterful administrator, a brilliant soldier, and a capable General. And the fact he is a Frenchman, not Italian… well that can cause a great deal of trouble, to the more nationalistic of the Italians.

We will need an ally for the day Napoleon's head achieved critical mass.
 
[X]Joseph Bonaparte: Napoleon's brother. Possibly the only administrator that you consider Napoleon's equal in administrative and legal matters. He may have been a republican, but he is loyal to his brother. You don't know too much about him personally, but you know he is someone who takes his work very seriously. A man who can do the best for the Italian people, and for Napoleon. The best of both worlds.

The thing is, I put the other choices there for reasons.

Massena is the main man, a capable commander, and is a known quantity for Italian nationalists. But he is loyal to Nappy B and unlike Bernny boy, won't just betray Nappy at the drop of a hat when the coalition offer him cash.

Who's to say it hasn't reached critical mass and he's just really good at hiding it.

The Italians have a burgoning sense of independence better to have it directed from a french man who can and will say no to napoleon as well as being uber competent and making it so the more rebellious and independent italians have an outlet through whatever parliament that Brian inevitably creates.
 
Forget Davout, imagine making Dumas the king of the Netherlands! Nappy would grit his teeth, reminding himself "happy wife means happy life," Therese would be smug for getting one of her loyal officers an influential position and scoring a solid (sort of) win for equality portion of the revolutionary motto.

I am not a fan of putting Brian there, it is important to remember the future ruler of France will be named Bonaparte, not Auclair, and having Joseph on that throne would be for the best, even more so considering Brian is hoping to turn it into a Republic which would run counter to Napoleon's plan. Honestly, it would be better if Brian could be put on Spain's throne.

The Problem is, the fact that Brian may only look after the Italian interests of his subjects, instead of say the larger strategic interests of Napoleon, and his empire.

Plus we would lose him as a Chief of Staff, and he would form the Italian Army.

Joseph can't lead armies for shit.

And we might be entering the point of war throughout all of Europe.

He believes in the revolutions, and he'll do well for the Italians. And despite what the nationalistic Italians try to do, I have absolute faith that if the Rosbiffs try to talk with him, he'll dismiss each and every single word out of their faces as the lies that they are.

Inb4 he starts doing a great deal of things that make him look like a Roman come again: Massive public infurstructure projects, education and Army reform. Making Alliances a with neighboring powers that share common interests.

And maybe do some backstabbing as he becomes a master of the political game by being his stubborn self.

Brian hates the British with almost as much hatred as the Québécois.

He will never side with them.

If anything he will side with: The Revolution, Napoleon, Italy, France, anyone not Britian, and Britian.

If it gets to the point where he allies with the British, it's the end of the world, or at very least, France.

Inb4 he makes a speech expressing his hopes for the future, his dreams and aspirations, his conviction to do what is right for italy even if it might not be what's best for France, and his hopes that by the end of his reign, the Italian people will be able to seize their own futures with their own hands. And then capping it off with a warning that he hates the British to the bottom of his heart. If they come for an alliance he will reject it. If they try to make an agreement they'll be met by a legion of lawyers, literally a legion, something around 6000 lawyers. If they try to trade, they'd better show up with clearly visible payment in hand or prepare to have that ship impounded.

Yes it is that insane but I am feeling insane.
