Interlude: The Great Game Finale: A Stroke of Luck
Interlude: The Great Game Finale: A Stroke of Luck

You could only balk at the madness of this man, as he had just asked you to play with a man's life, a life that had shown nothing but loyalty and respect, a man who is helping to make so many wealthy and France secure in its resources.

"No." You stated with authority, causing the man who had seemed so secure in something, his own power and wealth, and the ability to make someone agree with his motives, with prices that a man would never refuse.

The banker, clearly confused as the smile vanished, was replaced with a frown, and a raised eyebrow. "Excuse me?" His voice went from a controlled, rhythmic tone, to one of a confused child.

"I think you heard me quite clearly say no." You replied. "Are you so daft that you do not understand the concept of no?" You were angry, or frustrated, you didn't know what to feel for a man who asked you to betray one of your own.

You had been taught better, by father, by mother, by Brian, by your men, and certainly by those who placed the same trust in you.

To play politics to gain an advantage would be what an Empress would do, what someone from the old Regime would do.

You were not a member of the old regime, you were a child of the Revolution. A Child of the People.

A woman who valued above all things: Those loyal to France and to you. You paid that loyalty back in kind, even when it was not the politically expedient or politically expedient thing to do.

Amschel did not know that about you, as he continued to frown. "This deal… can find their way to others that are far more willing to-"

You stopped him and you stood up, causing the man to realize how tall you were, and it intimidated him. "Any deal that requires me to betray one of my own, for my benefit. Without a clear benefit, which clearly has not laid out in a compelling enough manner to make me accept."

"I can explain in detail, and in writing, at a later date." He stated, trying to take command of the situation.

You refused. "Then you clearly don't understand me. Yo had your chance to convince me. And you have failed."

You turned around content with your answer. "Don't you walk away woman!" He shouted as he ran in front of you, forcing you to stop as he pointed a finger at your face, all sense of decorum gone, completely flabbergasted that you continued to refuse him. "Do you even know who I am?!"

You turned quickly, smashing his face with the but of your pistol, before putting the weapon back into its holster. "Do you have any idea who you are speaking to? What ask of me?" You asked as you pushed the man to the side, back against the wall. "I am not some woman who will bow to the whims of men who do not have my trust, who expect me to follow a choice that my husband would expect me to make to benefit himself."

You turned away. "You are a smart man, figure out what else I truly am, especially when I am being threatened."

And you walked away.

October 3rd, 1796

Rolled: 100+46=146
(POV Shift: Michel Nay)

You are brave, and at this very moment, that bravery was being put to the test. For the last few days, you had discovered that the man is known as Maximilian Robespierre, the former First Consul of France, and the man whom, by all accounts the most famous revolutionary alive…

Was drinking with you in a tavern, trying to convince you to murder Napoleon.

He did not recognize you with your red beard, and the shorter red hair you had cut for a new promotion that Emperor had teased, and he had requested that your hair grow to a shorter length by the time you returned to Paris. You had hoped to shave when you got to the city when you had a chance to go to a barber.

But now, your wish to be lazy and to wait for another day was now paying dividends.

"You are asking me to betray my oaths." You played coy, interested, but trying to hide your anger.

You had him exactly where you wanted him.

"To save France, from the vile men and women who have betrayed the revolution, who had broken their oaths to save the people of the world." He said as he leaned forward, offering another drink. "Nothing more."

You looked at the ale. "I wish for a more… gentlemanly drink, if possible?" You asked.

"This place does not serve a good enough coffee brew to truly be considered a gentleman's drink." He replied as you took it. "Do you believe in the Revolution, Colonel?"

The fake rank, the fake name… everything about this was fake…

But not you… and not this. "I do sir… and I know you are its greatest enemy!"

You then whistled, as your men dropped what they were doing and pointed weapons at him.

You were going to keep this quiet, but you were still going to enjoy every moment. Brian Auclair may have failed, but for you, Michel Nay…

You would succeed where the heroes of France did not.

"Maximiliun Robespierre. You are under Arrest for Treason, against the French Republic. And you have no idea how long I've wished to say those words!" You said as you drew your pistol and aimed it at his chest. "So you are going to be quiet, and we are going to walk."

"All the way back to France, or for a ditch?" He asked.

"Wouldn't you like to know?" You replied as you tied him up. "I want a twenty-four-hour watch, and a carriage now, we leave now."

"What about the Emperor?" A Sargent asked.

"He has his wife, I think he'll be okay." You replied. "And Talleyrand."
------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Treaty was a success.

And what General Nay gave you… the icing on the cake.
-----------

Reward:

Maximilian Robespierre has been captured by the French military and has been transported to Paris for Trial or sentencing, depending on how you wish to procede.

The Treaty has been a success (Treaty will be posted in the Rumor mill coming soon!)

The Spain Policy for other nations will be revealed in the Rumor mill as well.

The Rothschilds grossly misunderstood your convictions and love of loyalty and will be reconsidering how to handle you, as you are too rich to just ignore and will be rethinking their strategies to get into your good graces.

We don't need to bother with a Trial, we should just execute him.

After-all, his support of terrorism (and his hatred of us) has sealed his fate.

But if we make it a trial, we can expose his crimes for all of France to see and give ourselves the moral high ground.
We already have the moral highground...

It just depends on what you want.

After all, Brian gave him a trial, and he walked and caused a civil war.

This time however, we have Napoleon friendly judges.

Man that banker really isn't happy that his "offer" was turned down. How surprised was he when it happened and almost immediately after Robespierre was captured? He think Therese knew?

And come on dude.

Banker: I can show you the details later so sign this contract that you have no details to for the price of your loyal friend and giving us stuff..... :V

I'm going to say this...

He's really pissed off, but knows that doing something rash, and stupid willfuck over his business, so he's going to take a breath and rethink his... thing.

The problem is, he thought he held all the cards...

until he didn't.

Oh and I might save the rumor mill for the end of the year, so we can get to the Epic Marshal creation scene that I've been working on for weeks now.

And I think anyone who has seen legend of Galactic Heroes will love it.

So, did the Children of the Revolution openly disavow Robespierre and reveal his part in the bombing plot? Because I reckon with that and Ney's testimony, we can forego a trial this once and proceed with sentencing and subsequent walk to the guillotine.

You'll have to get that next turn.

Ney is entirely on board, the Children not so much... they need to be convinced.

Michel Ney, you absolute Madlad, THANK YOU!!! This man better get the shiniest medal we can find for this!!

And Robby...you get the Guillotine. Or the Firing Squad. Or the noose, I'm not exactly picky. After all you did, a Trial is both unnecessary and unwanted.

Let us put this rabid dog, this child-killer, this blight upon the Revolution down, once and for all!

It would have been hilarious if it was spongebob.

I'm so sorry.

One side of me wish that Robespierre had more time to fucks things up a little longer, just so he can drown himself in the mud of his crimes while he watches France become a better nation for all people under our rule. Because I think that the worst punishment for his kind isn't to die, it's to see that all his convictions all his actions were wrong and that we did a better job than him.
But let's see how the trial goes.

And I think anyone who has seen legend of Galactic Heroes will love it

Sir I have watched the entire original anime at least 3-4 times. You bet I like it.

I have nothing to say about Robs capture that other didn't, but...

I would say this was also a win, while not right away I'm fine with throwing the war axe. Though personally beside our personal gain i would like to make this into a French gain, some sort of insurance about our finances and French ability to take loans would be good as i don't like the fact that we managed to stave of the crisis and pay off our soldiers via loot .
Plus stability of European financial system concern's us weary much if we plan to industrialize and expand upon European markets.

Don't worry, we;ve got plenty of time to deal with our Army Spirits.

And turn the Army into an actual modern force without a need for loot.
