The Rosetta stone was first transported to europe during the invasion of Egypt by Napoleon's troops. It was a bad joke about the focus on 'Egyptian and arabic studies specialists' in the write in. It's almost like the write in is made for the MC to recognize the significance of the stone and either provide it to the academy of science or decipher it and get +Learning/Education stat or trait. Though if they wanted the translation right away they should have specified 'ancient greek' instead of arabic, but i guess it's kind of likely that a language professor of this time that knows arabic might know at least some ancient greek.
That write in is not a thing the Writ of Justification is next turn.

Hell, we might not even find the Rosetta stone to study when we get there.

[X]Choose a new Objective: This entire plan is foolhardy, and you can come up with a better one. Sure the government wants you to go off to the ass-end of nowhere… but you want to do something else that would be worth the risk and manpower.
-[X]A Sicilian Vacation: The Island of Sicily is key to the British hold on the central Mediterranean. To capture it, and Malta is to control the Mediterranean… and you have plenty of reason to attempt such a thing. The fact you can cut off Sicily from the rest of Europe, means this will be an easy campaign. Provided you live of course and napoleon decides to continue south.

Since the later Pharaohs spoke Greek some Egyptian experts being versed in ancient Greek makes sense.

While I would like to see us push the English out of Cyprus. I think the writ goes far beyond the consensus on Sicily then Egypt. Maybe send surplus/reserve troops to Cyprus after we have hold of Egypt. The RN shouldn't have a base in the Eastern Med. Although I recognise that Cyprus maybe a harder proposition due to the remote island position and the amount of time the RN will have had to guess our plans by then. If all else fails a win in Sicily will put something positive in our overseas record.

-[] Justify this as the first step to attacking and taking Egypt, as per orders (which allowed us to do it in any way we chose). This allows to cut off the RN from the Eastern Med, so allows to land our troops in Egypt without being intercepted at sea first (a major concern OTL and one only avoided though Luck, to be honest) and to secure the logistic train back to France. It has the advantage of being true. If/When we intend to continue to Egypt this is the best first step.
- [] To support the reason, prepare materials and personal for campaign both in Sicily and in Egypt (that includes assembling a scientific and medical team with Egyptian and arabic studies specialists). Luckily, a lot of it is dual use (the equipment for a powder mill is identical whether said mill is in Sicily or Egypt)

Has this been changed in the quest TL?
No, as far as I can remember.

I think a lot of the thread just has a 19th century understanding of European geography, that's a just a wee bit premature at this point in the.

The 1790s are bit more forgiving for our naval nonsense than it would be further into the future.

Yeah naval matters are at best, skewed in a direction of...

who has the biggest fleet, and that fleet is Britain.

But they are not omniscient. See how Napoleon managed to reach Egypt OTL (or what happened at Quiberon).

OTH, the RN failures stand out because they are few and far between. And when things got the RN way.....

They have the largest fleet by far but also have the most ground to cover when you consider just how far flung their colonial empire is.

Oh yeah, but those REALLY stand out. Anyone remember Cartagena?

I suppose that at least some of the British Fleet might be tied up, either trying to dislodge us from Haiti or guarding the channel.

Well the big worry for the Atlantic fleet are pirates and Haiti, and potentially, American Mercenaries.

but those worries are really secondary to a French Fleet operating on convoy raids anywhere.

their main objectives are trying to keep the French Navy in port, something they cannot attempt again after the disastrous Vendee assistance and lose of dozens of ships at Toulon.

Question for you, is Spain allied with France at the moment? As that would mean that the British will have to contend with keeping the Spanish Navy in port.
