We must not know the same goddesses. You're supposed to beposing asa goddess and her retinue. Spitting out food or drink doesn't really fit with that image.

You did not, but you suspect she's worried about damaging or losing them. You don't quite understand the point of keeping a usable gift in a box where it'll never be used, but whatever works for her?
When Sidhe doesn't respond, you continue speaking. You're not even sure she's listening right now, but you doubt you're hurting anything by talking. You feel awkward and embarrassed, sure, but you'd feel even worse if you weren't doing anything.
"I'm not going anywhere, don't worry."
This claim finally earns a reaction from Sidhe. Although she doesn't move position, she does manage to croak out a response.
"Promise?"
What is she, four?
You squash that horrible little thought and try to put as much warmth into your voice as possible.
"I promise."
"So, Sidhe, you remember how I mentioned the part where I'm literally from another plane? Well, I kinda promised one of my friends on said plane that I'd bring her here once it was safe. So, I'll need to go on a few quick errands sometime in the next month, but it'll only take three quick trips across two days. At the most, each one would only take a few hours."
You've barely finished speaking before Sidhe responds frantically.
"Pleasetakemewithyou!"
You wince. "Your soul would be destroyed if I tried to drag you through the space between planes, Eternity. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to summon you eventually like I can for Nanoha, my friend, but that day may be a while off."
-[x] Ask Sidhe when she'd prefer you do it, and if there's anything you can do to make it easier for her.
"When would you prefer I go fetch her? Oh, and it's not like I'll just let you be unguarded for the brief time I'm gone. I have some combat droids and knight golems I can leave with you, and if there's anything else I can do to make things easier for you, I'll try to do it."
Sidhe is silent for the better part of two minutes. Well, apart from her crying, which still hasn't stopped. You're honestly not sure how she's managing to pay attention to you, let alone respond.
"Please stay as long as possible."
"Once again, thanks everything. Both of you. I hope you'll decide to stay with me for a while."
You finally earn a pure smile from Sidhe. A lot of blinking, too.
"I won't leave."
"One: You hate Blue mind magic. Whenever I find something particularly interesting in that category, you quickly change to warping space or something else I'm not as good at. Our mental abilities, both offense and defense, need serious work and I don't want you to be afraid I'll do something hostile if we start practicing them. Two: I want to try improving my ice magic even though it's your elemental opposite. Three: You'll be better at protecting me than I am at protecting you. Four: Once people start following you, I'll also be strictly in the category of 'off limits.' I don't think romance could possibly be as interesting as my own studies or as fun as spending time with my current friends. It would get annoying if I have to tell every unmarried man I meet 'no, I'm not interested.'
"Five: I'm a glorified hanger-on right now. If we ever had a major fight or something happens to you, I'd be stuck with little to no local currency, few belongings to call my own, and no knowledge of the local language. My translator would run out of power sooner or later and foreigners are seldom treated well. Five-point-five: Even if you decide to drop me off somewhere, you'll still be obligated to leave me with what I'd need to live comfortably. Even if you hate me at the time or if I've disappointed you. Six: Back on the Agni home plane, being your retainer will give others a known social slot to put me into. I believe 'confidant' is new and might lead to dismissal, especially if they learn what it actually involves. I'll also be less vulnerable to social missteps. Seven: I expect Agneyastra will be more comfortable spending resources on me if she knows I have your best interests in mind.
"Eight: Unless I'm badly mistaken, any copies of me you make in the future will still be affected by the oath. Speaking of which, Agneyastra? I think it might be a good idea if you add in a few specific actions which wouldn't be OK, ever. They might not be able to hijack the oath itself, but an enemy might be able to bend my mind so I thought killing her body would make her eternally happy or something. I apologize for the diversion, and seven—er, nine, sorry: You're the only family I have right now and I'm lucky to have you. I don't want you to decide I'm not worth your time."
Is this a bit of precog that we should be tracking down, or was that one of the things we were thinking about doing?
Look, we're probably going to be questioned by some guy who wants to know how we're supposed to be different from the maker of this world, Solomon, and other sufficiently powerful mages. That'll be fun. Really.
Ahah, thanks.I'm in favor of having this conversation if possible since it sounds fun, but not sure aimlessly wandering around the Academy is the best way to go about it. Sounds like this guy will decide to approach us, not the other way around, and we don't know where he is. The Academy's a decent bet, but is it worth going out of way to where he might be, when he's already likely to come to us?
I'll give you dragons (who are non-humanoid), but Sigurd is a post-human upload and doesn't count. Both MGLN and Earthland have sapient dragons, Sigurd is clearly non-human, ...
Jewelry / gifts (souvenirs) for Nanoha's family and friends, spices and wines (Nanoha was raised in the bakery, right? Does she enjoy baking / cooking at least in principle?) - it's not like we can get drunk (easily). Art, maybe?I like the idea of a shopping trip, but we'll have to find a way to include Nanoha - it'd be easy for it to turn into "Jade and Sidhe geek out over magical doohickies that Nanoha can't perceive". Ideas? Clothing doesn't really work because we have fabbers and Agneyastra. Nanoha doesn't really seem like the type to enjoy clothes shopping anyway. Maybe make a point of shopping for swords and other things that Nanoha can use to smite her enemies?
The point has been made, and I think that I agree, that we don't know enough about the disease or its capabilities to contain it safely. It's virulent enough to generate its own mana; I could easily see it going full Andromeda Strain. We got an ability keyworded off it, we have a perfect memory of the magical aspects of it, and Agneyastra spent quite a while within ten meters of it and almost certainly scanned it inside and out, so I'd be astounded if we can't replicate it if we want to continue development. More importantly, the instance we were studying there was apparently quite thoroughly advanced, and if you're studying a magical disease, you want to start with the weakest form of it you can find and keep it weak.I also greatly object to Jade not taking samples. Because, you know, magic resistant disease. Natural one, it seems. If it exists in one place, it can exist on others, and needs to be preemptively studied, so as to make sure we, and everyone we care about can be immune. Also, tissue samples from the fanalis. And leave him our contact information or something - he'll probably want to repay the debt to us.
I was figuring that that was going to be Yuuno? Familiar/mage Yuuno, not giant space ferret Yuuno.either ours, or Nanoha's, that we make at the beginning of the JS incident (hence the need for familiar healing supplies).
This sounds like it could work, yeah. Along with finding tools and weaponry for exploration and dealing with things like the Jewel Seeds.
I think you have a good idea here.A gift for Sidhe, eh?
Hmmm.....
For her birthday gift, I think we're going the "wrong" way. I'm thinking on someting not that flashy but ideally more meaningful: a framed photograph.
We'd have to rely on Agneyastra for the picture itself* as we don't have a(nother) camera but we can try to get a nice frame here. Or maybe getting the materials so Jade makes the frame herself (I'm thinking something metal so we are the forge, some LC shields can work as a mould**)
* probably one where she's at the center but with everybody on it
**is that the word?
- Money isn't an issue and Sidhe knows it, we don't have to demonstrate her how much money we have (if Sidhe truly wanted something Jade would buy it for her, birthday or not)
- It's something Sidhe can "use" without taking it out of her room so little risk of loss/damage.
- It's meaningful because it serves her as a reminder of her new place of belonging (a point related to all spoilered quotes above)
- It's doubly meaningful because it's also something Jade made herself
Comments?
Edit: we can still buy something nice for Sidhe here (or Nanoha or ourselves for that matter)
With how she followed Jade into a room full of sick people just to, apparently, stare at Jade, I'm pretty sure she can survive being excluded while Jade geeks out with Sidhe. And isn't telepathic discussion ridiculously fast thanks to artificial vessels anyway?I like the idea of a shopping trip, but we'll have to find a way to include Nanoha - it'd be easy for it to turn into "Jade and Sidhe geek out over magical doohickies that Nanoha can't perceive". Ideas?
I think that I agree here; if we're looking for birthday presents and similar, go for sentimental value. Shinies are, right now, a bit too much about "work".I would suggest we don't get Sidhe (or Nanoha for that matter) anything related to work (read: magic) as a special gift. For one, we'll naturally pick up stuff for them as a matter of course. For two, I would rather encourage Sidhe to find non-work hobbies or pick up things she does in spare time rather than throwing herself farther into "must be useful".
I think the "made by hand" aspect isn't necessary, but a framed photograph of everyone together is perfect. For customization, I'd look in the direction of durability enhancements - we're not living the most peaceful of lives, and even Agneyastra's hammerspace probably isn't invulnerable. For her birthday gift, I think we're going the "wrong" way. I'm thinking on someting not that flashy but ideally more meaningful: a framed photograph.
Sigurd isn't a standard companion made from a dead Herald, he was an extraplanar before. Since he disdains bipedal motion, he wasn't even humanoid.I'll give you dragons (who are non-humanoid), but Sigurd is a post-human upload and doesn't count.
Pretty sure that's just Neph being more distant or less emotional. We had her switch between white and red text before.
Not worth the risk of a developed strain. Besides, we have next to no experience with Black and Green.I also greatly object to Jade not taking samples. Because, you know, magic resistant disease. Natural one, it seems. If it exists in one place, it can exist on others, and needs to be preemptively studied, so as to make sure we, and everyone we care about can be immune. Honestly, if Sigurd didn't prefer four legs, I'd have guessed at him. Still, Holly's features e.g. match Adept Marina, whose first name we never got.two likely recruits on MGLN within weeks (Holly and Hayate at the very least)
So she'll treasure her first birthday present from us, whatever it is.You did not, but you suspect she's worried about damaging or losing them. You don't quite understand the point of keeping a usable gift in a box where it'll never be used, but whatever works for her?
She wants to learn ice magic for fun, just like our fiery wings were fun to us. I don't see a problem in encouraging her hobby. Why should we push her in another direction? Having fun with magic is great, and the fact she picked Scrya by herself shows she has other interests.I would suggest we don't get Sidhe (or Nanoha for that matter) anything related to work (read: magic) as a special gift. For one, we'll naturally pick up stuff for them as a matter of course. Regular shinies, yes. The one field of magic she told us she wants to learn, though? That's not a shiny, that's showing that you remember.
We should also get a few basic artifacts of any single color.[] Propose meeting up with Sidhe and going out shopping. Since this is the one plane that actually accepts the weird gold, you'll have enough of it to purchase whatever you want.
-[] Focus on Red enchantments and effects.
-[] Do a cursory scan of everything you can find, but don't get too bogged down looking at any one thing.
Heralds were mortal humans, weren't they? Ok, I'll amend "first mortal intelligent non-human sophonts". Basically, aliens who are not gods.Sigurd isn't a standard companion made from a dead Herald, he was an extraplanar before. Since he disdains bipedal motion, he wasn't even humanoid.
Can you even make familiars out of humans in MGLN? I would guess that it would be at least illegal as hell.I was figuring that that was going to be Yuuno? Familiar/mage Yuuno, not giant space ferret Yuuno.
... spices and wines (Nanoha was raised in the bakery, right? Does she enjoy baking / cooking at least in principle?)
I don't know that extraplanars typically need legs. They're usually somewhat ethereal. I can easily see Siggy having fallen flat on his face a time or two while adapting to having physical form.Sigurd isn't a standard companion made from a dead Herald, he was an extraplanar before. I see an entertaining tale or two there of when Sigurd first manifested himself a physical form .I don't know that extraplanars typically need legs. They're usually somewhat ethereal. I can easily see Siggy having fallen flat on his face a time or two while adapting to having physical form.
Tools to heal familiars should work on Yuuno Scrya's shapeshifted ferret form. So no, he's not bound as a familiar. Can you even make familiars out of humans in MGLN? I would guess that it would be at least illegal as hell.
Never said he was corporeal before, just that he wasn't humanoid.I don't know that extraplanars typically need legs. They're usually somewhat ethereal. I can easily see Siggy having fallen flat on his face a time or two while adapting to having physical form.
A locket carries the "risk" of not being used, just like the earrings; I'd prefer a frame but that's just me.-[ ] Look for a birthday gift for Sidhe. Something of sentimental value. Maybe find a street artist to make a quick image of the group together? Or a locket where to hold such a picture.
Why make something practical a gift? We will be buying it anyway, simply as equipment.[] Get birthday presents for Sidhe, one sentimental (enchanted frame for group photo?) one thoughtful (AoE ice magic to freeze enemies in place?)
Ok, how about this:A locket carries the "risk" of not being used, just like the earrings; I'd prefer a frame but that's just me.
But apart from that minor nitpick I'm ok with the vote.

The Wolkenritt- wait no that was definitely illegal. Can you even make familiars out of humans in MGLN? I would guess that it would be at least illegal as hell.
Marina is a name IRL, so that's probably her first name. I always assumed it was her first name, actually. @Alivaril, do we know?Honestly, if Sigurd didn't prefer four legs, I'd have guessed at him. Still, Holly's features e.g. match Adept Marina, whose first name we never got.
Holly might not be from MGLN.
