Taking the colorblind version from a Velgarth Adept-potential, then permanently sacrificing the mana of a fifth of our lands — any inhabitants would be fine — and a fifth of our personal power to give Nanoha a bunch of perks, including fire immunity.
Is this a fifth of our current lands, or a fifth of all lands forever? Because I don't think I'm cool with the latter. If nothing else, it would mean that we could only ever have 4 close friends without leaving someone out. And while we've previously voted to give our friends the best possible vessels etc. and not keep them back so we can be "special", there's a big difference between raising people up to your level and permanently crippling yourself to bring them up.

Worse, I can't see us not doing it, because that would be "selfish" - and we've demonstrated a consistent inability to be such, to the point where it's unhealthy. I fear this will be the same.

...Okay, can someone that's more familiar with MGLN explain how we've already cockblocked Fate?

Basically, Nanoha is already smitten with Jade, and that makes all the difference. The existing precommitment as a wannabe retainer likely plays a role as well.

Though I'll note Neph might not only be talking about Fate; Yuuno's blond, right? Maybe he makes the mistake of asking Nanoha out on a date.

And now we know what exactly Sylvester did.

Sylvester probably did something similar, but far stronger. Our version probably isn't automatically passed onto every descendant, for one thing.

No way is this a fifth of our lands forever. The question is whether it's a fifth of our current lands, no matter how many we have, or a flat but permanent cost of a few motes.

[] Go over and scan the red-haired living mana generator.
-[] Purge anything harming him with Red once you've learned what you wanted. Magnostadt's mages clearly aren't going to do more than merely keep him alive.

[] Recap the non-embarassing parts of Neph's messages to your friends and family, then encourage them to share their own thoughts on her.

[] Fetch Nanoha, meet up with Sidhe, and go shopping for Enchantments, artifacts, and spells.
-[] Focus on Red enchantments and effects.
-[] Do a cursory scan of everything you can find, but don't get too bogged down looking at any one thing.

[] Write-in
So, voting options.

I think that we should take some time to look at the guy in the corner. If I remember correctly, this room should have been filled with only their oncology patients. If he's actively generating mana, the mages of magnostadt should have been able to tell that he didn't have simple cancer. So why's he in the room here with us?
  • Stalking horse, they expect him to cause trouble for us and have brought him in as some kind of test of our divinity or defenses.
  • They want to see if we can cure him as an above-and-beyond compared to normal cancer.
Probably a ton of other options, but those are what I come up with in fifteen seconds.

There's a ton of stuff in the Neph's messages that we need to - have in fact been instructed to - share, and we need to follow through on that.

[] While you do that, start absentmindedly relaying some of the more important and less embarrassing things.
-[] You can share the whole thing later, at least with mom, but for right now you figure you should at least explain enough that people stop worrying.
-[] Tell Mom that precog-you says 'Hi', Djinn powers don't cause much trouble but we got pointers anyway, got a ton of info about Mom's home-plane and the jewel seeds in particular, got some info about acquiring a mage-gift for Nanoha.

or a flat but permanent cost of a few motes.
How many lands do we have right now? Does five divide the daily production of our lands anywhere near equally?

Mom will be incredibly worried we'll do that for multiple people, won't she?
Also, I fully withdraw my preference to saving that question - we can stop searching donors on this plane.

Hmm... can Nanoha later sacrifice 1/5 of her power to grant Sidhe similar perks? After all, that's how the Aura awakening in Remnant works.

@Nixeu: You seem to know the Velgarth's canon... people in Valdemar are still born with the mage gift, right? Seeing as mages are basically exiled, finding an Adept-potential with no interest in ever using it should be simple.

Power doesn't just vanish, so losing 1/5 of our future mana without Nanoha gaining it wouldn't make sense.
Also, sacrifice is usually symbolic/conceptual, so I'm pretty sure it won't be a flat amount.

PS: If Bifrovs betrays us, that's another djinn power to take. Now where do we put it?

iirc red-head means ridiculous combat slave in this plane, right ? We should definitively poke at it and see what falls off...

How many lands do we have right now? Does five divide the daily production of our lands anywhere near equally?
Not counting personal and our pendant, we generate 10 Motes of Mana from landbonds.
Also, the 5th of our Mana should be either 1 or 1.20 Red Motes. depending on if Neph noticed our increase to 6 Red or not.
Side note, we desperately need a Green Land. We have no source of Green beyond wandering around and picking it up or making Sidhe grab us some.

I might be willing to do that sacrifice if we can get a more firm commitment from Nanoha.

The other problem is that we would have to do something similar for Sidhe.

How many lands do we have right now? Does five divide the daily production of our lands anywhere near equally?

Kibonoshi: The town where you grew up. [Blue/Red]
Uminari: The place where you met Nanoha. [White/Red]
Holacre: Where you spent a bit over a month with Sidhe, and where Siofra lives. [R/U + B/U + B/W]
Avalon: The settlement where Carnation lives. [Black/Red]
Oasis: Located near Vacuo, this is where you first started to get your soul fixed. [Black/Red + White]
Sentinel: Located near Atlas. You moved here after bonding to Oasis. [Red/Black + Black]

10 motes from land, but we might be choosing entire lands to sacrifice, so it wouldn't necessarily divide equally. I'd imagine the operation would focus primarily on Red with maybe a little White. So a fifth of Jade's personal mana production [RRRRRR] + Uminari [White/Red] + maybe one other land (Avalon, Kibonoshi, or Oasis) A permanent loss of 2 to 4 motes, including personal production.

EDIT: Actually, looking at it, a loss of a mere 2 to 4 motes out Jade's total of 19 (including her pendant, but not counting Linker Core or Ethernano conversion) wouldn't be that big of a deal, even for the JS incident. So I wouldn't be opposed to doing this during our month of prep time. Since Uminari is currently timelocked, this would likely involve sacrificing Oasis. [Black/Red + White]

On the vote:

-[] Purge anything harming him with Red once you've learned what you wanted. Magnostadt's mages clearly aren't going to do more than merely keep him alive.

Mostly fine with this, but we should at least ask the other mages what's up with this guy before purging anything. Even if they refuse to tell us anything useful, their response will be illuminating. So something like:

[] Go over and scan the red-haired living mana generator.
-[] Have Agneyastra ask a mage what's wrong with the red-haired man while you scan.
--[] If the answers aren't satisfactory, purge anything harming him with Red once you've learned what you wanted.

All of the other options are good. No complaints.

You don't think Neph would've suggested the sacrifice if it would permanently cripple you; for one thing, Agneyastra would never give her approval. No, you're pretty sure it'd just be your current lands and current mana capacity.

EDIT: You don't know if it's flat or exactly 1/5th, but you don't think even future-you would make things so confusing as to use fractions when you already have "Motes" as a standardized unit of measurement. So, the value of 20% is probably important.

Nanoha is already into Jade. Also, this particular version of Fate sounds like she's even more fucked up in the head than Jade is. I can't imagine any sort of romantic relationship for her turning out well or healthy anytime soon. Even now Jade isn't ready for any sort of relationship despite making enormous progress in about a year.

Tell Mom I said 'hi' and that Indira is a terrible mother believing gilded cages are good for us and that mortals are basically pets, so Mom doesn't need to worry about negative comparison at all. Good luck!

I guess that basically confirms giving her any actual power over Jade is a really bad idea.:V

Okay, a conceptual sacrifice of 20% of our current power is much easier to swallow. I'm absolutely down for that. In fact, we should seek to do this as soon as possible - and look into doing the same for Sidhe too - because the earlier we do this, the less it costs us.

Again, it shouldn't be a big deal IMO if Fate becomes a retainer too. (Rehabbing Fate, OTOH...)

Blond/blonde are gendered words and the text did use the latter... but "blonde" is often used in the US as a non-gendered default. So it could be either.

Other characters (notably Lindy) were still shipping NanoChrono or NanoYuuno through most of A's, which took place ~6 months after the Jewel Seeds incident. NanoFate didn't truly take off until StrikerS, ten in-universe years later. So there's plenty of time.

The real hardmode ship is Agneyastra/Precia PreciYastra.

If we did it for Sidhe we would effectively be adopting her into the Agni family.

Also Gods are supposed to be only mate with God's so this might be required for any relationship with Nanoha.

Would soul magic of this caliber violate the agreement with Nanoha's parents? I imagine we didn't specifically promise not to turn Nanoha into a demigod, but doing so might violate the spirit if not the letter. :V

Here's a thought: the Agni claim divinity due to their Spark being exceptionally strong, with one of the notable qualities being able to survive an infinite number of Vessel-switches rather than just 4. If Nanoha becomes a Demigod, will her soul remain undimmed by switches too?

Just occured to me that we can contact Velgarth gods through Sigurd to guide us to a suitable donor.
I don't think this is an option for Sidhe; she already has the ability to use mana magic.
Just saves us the hassle of transplanting mana magic. OTOH, I'm not sure how comfortable Sidhe would be with becoming part-Red. We may have to find a different way for her.

-[X] Purge anything harming him with Red once you've learned what you wanted. Magnostadt's mages clearly aren't going to do more than merely keep him alive.

[X] Fetch Nanoha, meet up with Sidhe, and go shopping for Enchantments, artifacts, and spells.

-[X] Get a backup birthday present for Sidhe in case you don't find anything better. Perhaps AoE ice magic that freezes enemies in place?

We can share Neph's messages in full after we leave Magostadt. For now, let's get the most out of this day-trip.

Score for conceptual sacrifice. Sylvester probably sacrificed 'all' of himself to empower 'all' Agni via the link of his blood ties.

@Alivaril: Any luck with finding the relative timezones of Vale, Eastern Empire, and Magnostadt?

Plans for the future:
- Consult Agneyastra, Blue-Jade, Red-Jade on the memory of channeling Neph & list of future questions
- Study the Unison / djinn equip merge with Bifrovs, be ready for inevitable betrayal, spellsteal
- Ask Vanyel for permission to find an Adept-potential donor in Valdemar
- If Vanyel doesn't volunteer names, search mind-healer clinics + cursed/haunted people
- Sacrifice Uminari + Avalon to empower Nanoha

New question:
Can we sacrifice Earthland gods? That knowledge god is probably Blue, perfect for Sidhe.

If Nanoha becomes a Demigod, will her soul remain undimmed by switches too?
As I stated before (when the character sheet was updated) that's the most valuable part of the Agni package. In other words: Want!
