Huh. I read that as her not being dead for some reason.

Sorry about that; edited to make it very, very clear. Wrote this up from a phone, so I couldn't just view it all at once and pick out mistakes / holes like I usually do. I'll work on improving it for a bit.

Okay, why isn't there a Soul Gem? Or gem dust? Does it just disappear when someone witches?

Under ordinary circumstances, no.

Looks like I had the good fortune to come upon this quest right as it updated. Interesting story so far. Poor Emilia, I hope she doesn't witch out from this but the end of that interlude looks suspiciously like the beginnings of a grief spiral to me.

As for my vote: Since we're a black-haired girl named Jade, I suggest we pick Fire and go for as much Jade Chan as is possible for someone who's spent this much time looking before leaping. Being smart is a large part of Jade Chan's character, mind you, it's just generally overshadowed by her recklessness.

[x] Go downstairs and eat breakfast. Some of the other kids should be waking up right about now, but you still need to eat.
-[x] Head back to your room if some of them start acting cruel once again.

[x] Type while you eat: Send PM to Jeanne on a forum (or in Instant Messenger if she give on in her profile)
-[x] Don't give specific details, but write that you are in same city, QB approached you, but you did not make a wish before doing research on MGs.
--[x] Ask about situation in the city and is she wants or not new MG in "her" city

[5] A tiny, tiny ecosystem. So long as you continue to supply it with sunlight, it will remain alive. Somehow.
[1] A ruby. Veins of some other material make the pendant look like lava is running through it
[3] A black diamond. The area around it somehow seems darker than it should be.
[2] A tiny pool of water with what looks like flecks of crystal floating in it.
[4] A beautiful crystal that scatters rainbow light everywhere.

Interesting story so far.

Thank you! Unfortunately, I'm going to have to wait until tomorrow before I can start on the next post. The PC will actually have the beginnings of a personality then, although it'll still be somewhat in flux for a little while longer.

Don't worry: prior to this incident, she was always careful and made sure to keep her soul gem below 60%. "Merely" finding out that a friend had died, while horrifying, wouldn't be enough to kill her.

Hm, so does this mean we're about to Interrupting N00b someone's soliloquy as they start to grief spiral? Or, no, I think that was a different character. But the slightly slow freind does sound like a lightbulb witch who was reluctant to attack could be the result of a wish "to be bright/the brightest" that then leads to figuring out a few grief-bombs at once.

Eh, Occam's razor. Kyubey told us this is happening to a lot of potentials, so I doubt Haru did anything special to provoke it.

prior to this incident

I wonder how long she's been in this business... I mean, she's senior enough to be something of an administrator for MGN, so probably a while? 5 or 6 years maybe? That's quite a long time to be contracted. I doubt there's any girls who made it to 10 years.

If it helps any: Magic was revealed approximately 28 months ago. Emilia became a magical girl before then.

Anyone who was a magical girl prior to the reveal earned the title of "Senior MG".

[X] Grab some food and immediately retreat back to your room. You've tried making friends with some of the other children before; it always ends horribly. Even when it looks like you start to succeed, they just turn on you later.
[X] Hop on to MGN's chat and say hello.
-[X] Username: Wishmaker

Seriously? You're going for that generic name rather than something more suited to us specifically? (I still like ScalesOfBalance)

We have no personality just yet, so it's not like there really is something particularly more suited to us. (and I don't see the appeal to ScalesOfBalance)

Aaannnd picking a name that means something in particular could sway our personality in a given direction. Say that red wins for the gem vote, that would mean we're probably somewhat impulsive. however, we've already been shown to want the world to be fair, and between that and a username like ScalesOfBalance, that could give us some white personality traits. a character isn't defined by any one choice, everything you do adds up to what they become.

so, if you want to add a little white to who you/we are (or any color for that matter), try going for a name that 'fits' with that kind of ideal. it's not much, but the kind of name you pick for yourself off-hand can say a bit about the kind of person you are.

(that said, this is just my thinking talking, QM might not do anything with this, but it would make a certain amount of sense to me)

Also, popping onto a chat isn't like we're creating a profile we'll be using forever. It's what we're calling ourselves for the purpose of that session, while we ask some things. There's no reason to tip our hand about our personality in case there's a magical girl who can make huge jumps in logic or try and diplomance us or something.

HEIRLOOM VOTING IS LOCKED

Special thanks to Xyzarach for doing the tally.

I admit, when I first put up that vote, I expected the water or crystal to win by a landslide. Instead...

I'm actually really looking forward to th- oh look, a birdie!

it was damn weird. knowing SV, I was expecting a blue lead, with white behind it, even after everyone was given the freedom to choose. instead, white's in last of all places, and black managed to crawl it's way out of the gutter and into third! and that's just how it is now, the shifts when the votes were happening were even more drastic, with green in second place for a short while, until blue pulled itself back into it's final place.

The Homura quest is already a pretty heavy Blue with White/Black mentality and goals. So... A lot of us want to play something else now I suppose.

And if we use the descending order for personality instead of just the one that won... We end up with an energetic, action-oriented girl who can be oddly thoughtful/knows to stop and think even if only for a moment and is more selfish than not (1st Red, 2nd Blue, 3rd Black) or an energetic, action-oriented girl who flies across the city on nothing but instinct. Again, more selfish than not. (1st Red, 2nd Green, 3rd Black).

Updated character sheet with some details on your father. Will do the rest in a couple hours; real life calls.

Your father was a stage magician, although you always noticed that his displays of "magic" often involved more fireworks and explosions than actual sleight-of-hand. That's not to say he was particularly bad at the latter; he just seemed to prefer setting things on fire instead of pulling terrified animals out of a hat.

Some of your fondest memories are of learning how to properly handle the tools of your dad's trade without getting hurt. While other children were learning fire safety, you had progressed past that and moved on to the proper handling of minor explosives.

Unfortunately, he managed to get involved with the "wrong sort" twenty months ago, owing them a favor for some unknown reason. You suspect it may have been related to the flashier (and more explosive) acts needed to compete with the reveal of magical girls.

Four and a half months after that, he died when the roof collapsed on top of him in the middle of a performance. A freak accident, the police said. You had worried about his possible ties to organized crime for nothing.

Regardless, you'll never forget seeing two tons of metal and glass falling on your unsuspecting father.

Might have been Red/Blue/Green, though? Creative, instinctual, energetic... and also impulsive.

He should've gone for the obvious comprise and pulled flaming critters out of his hat.

"First, I take this ordinary chicken, and place it within this hat off to the side... and now it's gone! but wait! I feel something on my head!"

*pulls his hat off and reaches in*

"fried chicken?! where could that have come from!?"

<canned laughter>

I don't understand how the ranking vote works well enough to be comfortable with giving non-winning votes influence. Aren't second and third place significantly less agreed-on than first? I don't get it.
