Imma fix that, one second...

Iskander the Scavenger: 1D100+20(Dragon)-10(Stealthy... For A Dragon) = 24+20-10 = 34

Iskander had left the cavern for reasons you hadn't been privy to. At least, until you'd returned to your hideout one day and had found him munching on some bison and deer he had caught.

...At least you wouldn't need to buy as many cow corpses as last time.

Results:

This month's expenses are reduced to $2,500.

Iskander has found some wild animals to eat, though nothing more unfortunately.

Um, am I the only one who doesn't understand what the high values are supposed to mean for us? As far as I understand, the lower the Iskanders' rolls are, the more invisible he will be... and the higher they are, the more likely someone with a camera will be able to film him? Isn't that weird? However, something tells me that we need to seriously talk to him if we do not want this world to go from cartoon to cartoon realism with tanks, planes and missiles. Still, a dragon is a serious threat and getting caught eating it could be a problem... Although it might be fun to run from government agents and spies trying to find the master of the creature.

The roll is for both the quality of what he grabs and if someone spots him at the same time. If he succeeds, no one notices him.

The malus is because while he is stealthy for a dragon, he is still a dragon, so it'll be hard for him to hide. Also, the bonus is because he s a dragon, and as such he's capable of grabbing mostly anything big enough.

So what kind of throw does he have to have in order not to get caught? And is there anything you can do about it? For example, can I write an omake to turn it into a humanoid form? Or have him cast some sort of disguise spell? What's the gradation of his visibility? That is, at 34 no one noticed him, but he only brought his own food. What about the critical roll? Please describe how it should look to us if you don't mind.

Hey er, this might be an unpopular opinion, but I don't think omakes should be used to try and get around challenges presented by the quest. If we just wrote an omake to overcome a problem, then the quest wouldn't be very fun, wouldn't it?

Not to mention a disguise spell might not work for a freaking dragon unless it was very powerful.

Local Ladybird Loses to Long Arm of the Paw!

In what appears to be a more common occurrence in this day and age a new super villain pooped out of the nefarious wood works, the self titled LadyBird began her wave of villainous plumed plundering with a brazened theft of a local jewellery store, The Ravensway Jewellery. The bird themed Villainess was able to escape from the shop with vast quantities of gems and precious metals which on estimate totalled to somewhere around $75000.

Fortunately before the avian themed thief could make a clean getaway she was halted by the presence of two plucky puppies, quick minded reader would assume this was the Paw Patrol out in full force from Adventure City, striking back against evil and saving the day, those quick minded readers would be incorrect in their assumption as the Paw Patrol were in the Bay area rescuing a old lady from a tree, how she got there we don't really know but we can assume that 'The Sinister Syndicate' could be to blame what with their use of the small mischief making fairies and fae which have been used to tire out our noble defenders before a large crime. The canine crusaders that stopped the would be thief from making off with the loot were twin Retriever pups Ella and Tuck who chased the LadyBird up a tree. where she remained until local law enforcement could arrive with a large enough ladder and crow bar to detach her from the tree.

When asked as to why she remained in the tree for around thirty minutes, Ladybird informed the nearby reporter rather sheepishly that she has a fear of Golden Retrievers, but only Golden Revivers hence why she thought she could commit crimes in the one city with a dog based hero group nearby, Ladybird said that she "failed to consider that some people could have those terrible beasts as pets in the city where other good dogs go around saving people"

Misses Miggins, owner of Misses Miggins Pie Shoppe, who was on scene with her pet Daschund, Poppet was quoted in saying that "when that young lady in the silly costume flew in I had trouble keeping a hold of my sweet Poppet, my Poppet loves this small stuffed bird toy i got her not too long ago, I think seeing someone wearing a costume rather similar to her toy made her want to go play with the young lady, shame about her fear though, I don't understand why she is terrified of Retrievers though, they're absolutely wonderful dogs"

Poppet the dachshund refused to comment on her option of the outstanding show of bravery and heroism.

Local Hunter Todd had this to say "I think I'm mostly disappointed with how things turned out, yes the sinister syndicate stole the vehicles of the paw patrol and that giant golden chicken so I guess i'm kind of spoiled for dramatic card carrying villains, they were disruptive but they had style. But this new villain feels like a trend chaser, just doing things because they're popular, I would say all style and no substance but when your 'style' is being chased up a tree by 2 Retriever dog then I really cant call it style. It is funny that the woman dressed as a bird was retrieved by the Retrievers, guess some things are simply genetic"

Is this the start of trend chasing villains who's gimmicks will fall flat or will there be some true villains worth fearing? This humble newsletter hopes for the former.

does the rumour mill count as a update for omake resets?

As far as I understand, all updates count as this reset, but 5 omake is given between parts, and 3 between updates. It's debatable though, but considering that even if we set the stage for artificial critical successes it doesn't negate the fact that the story will still be interesting. After all, it's one thing when the villain has prepared his plan and thanks to it can come out if not victorious, then not defeated, and quite another when the villain always succeeds.

That is, in theory we could use the omake to compensate for a critical failure, but in exchange we get nothing but defeat and some material benefits.

So only a natural critical success or failure would be truly useful to us. That is, 1 and 100 - is something that happens rarely, and it can bring incredible bonuses or incredible tragedy, but to level the critical failure is possible if you sacrifice something useful for us, but acceptable, but the artificial critical successes are certainly good (ie reward above average as if the dice were 90 natural throw), but should not be as good as 100Nat (something really amazing)! That's just my opinion though.

Hey er, this might be an unpopular opinion, but I don't think omakes should be used to try and get around challenges presented by the quest. If we just wrote an omake to overcome a problem, then the quest wouldn't be very fun, wouldn't it?

Not that I'm against the problems that we must have, but it is important that we have the opportunity to level it with due diligence. Luck and bad luck is good, but if we've prepared, created a plan, calculated escape routes, and then bam! We get a 1 and break everything, that's not cool. In general, the really cool awards should be given as I think only for the natural 98,99 and 100. In contrast to it for 1,2 and 3 - is a critical failure, but it can be leveled with due diligence. For example, when looting, we could drop some loot(or even completely) to make up for that drop.

(Canon) Passive Aggressive: Panory
You'd sent some gift cards and flowers as well, to each of the pups and Ryder.
Passive Aggressive

"Guys! Guys! Look what we got!" Rocky exclaimed, bursting into the lookout.

"Ooh, what is it?" Skye asked, running ahead of the rest of the Paw Patrol, who were making their way over to see.

"We got a care package!" The pups perked up at that, their exhaustion always slightly alleviated by the outpouring of support from their home city.

"While it is always appreciated to be, well, appreciated," Merlin mused, "I fail to see what makes these gifts merit more enthusiasm than any of the others we've been showered with over the past week."

The spellcasting canine wasn't exactly incorrect. The people of Adventure Bay had been so vocal in their support of the Paw Patrol that they had to start bypassing the postal service to avoid the whole thing getting clogged up. There was no shortage of presents, fan letters, and care packages.

"Because!" Rocky exclaimed, his tail going a mile a minute. "These ones came from Johanna! I saw her drop them off on the cameras! It always feels nice to be appreciated, and it's even better when it comes from a friend!"

"Well, let's open them up and see what she got you guys." Ryder said, chuckling a little at Rocky's enthusiasm.

"Not just us, there's one here for you too, Ryder, sir!" Ryder blushed a little as Rocky slide the present (from a girl!) across to him.

"Go on Rocky!" Chase encouraged him.

"No… I will wait." said Rocky, sitting down on his haunches with purpose. "I want to build the anticipation watching you guys!"

"Alright, alright!" Chase laughed placatingly. "Let's see what we got."

Chase tore into the brown wrapped package. "Oh wow!" Marshall exclaimed, looking over Chase's shoulder into the box. "A whole thing of treats! Lucky!"

"They're even the kind that clean your teeth." Chase noted appreciatively.

"Me next, me next!" said Skye, jumping on hers. "Oh my god! It's a little plane!" Skye picked the toy plane up, and the miniature aviator let out a little wheeze between Skye's teeth. "Ah! And it squeaks! This is awesome!"

"Rocky, are you okay?" Ryder asked. At this point, the pup was practically vibrating with excitement.

"AH! I just can't take it anymore!" he shouted before diving into his own package. That was the cue for the pups to all begin opening their gifts.

"She got me a tennis ball!"

"I've always wanted one of these!"

"You can never have enough first aid supplies."

"How'd she know!?"

"This is outrageous!" The whole of the Paw Patrol turned to Merlin at his outburst to see him fuming at his present, a mix of fury and disgust on his face. "To send me this… this…"

Sitting on the floor in front of him was a large yellow book, with two hands passing a coin between them, titled Magic for Dummies. "I am an expert magician, with years of experience. I can't believe she would insult me like this!"

"Calm down, Merlin." placated Everest.

"Yeah, it makes sense not every gift is going to be amazing, especially since Johanna barely knows you." justified Rocky.

"It's not as if you display much interest outside of your magic to the public, and I doubt Mr. Porter pays the girl in rare magical artifacts. You have an expensive hobby, and it's the thought that counts." Remedy explained calmly.

Merlin took a deep breath, holding it for a long moment before letting it out with all his tension. "You're right. My apologies."

"It's no big deal, Merlin. Hey, do you want one of my treats?" Chase offered. Merlin took the presented treat and began gnawing on it.

"What did you get Rocky?" asked Sylvia. "You were so excited for it."

Rocky responded only with sniffling. "Oh no, was it not good?" asked Rubble with concern.

"It's… it's… perfect!" exclaimed Rocky, showing off his large hunk of scrap metal. "She remembered the size and shape we were looking for, and got it on her own time! This is one of the nicest things anyone's ever done for me!"

"Aw, that's really touching Rocky." said Skye. "Even if I don't get it at all."

"What about you, Ryder sir?" asked Chase.

"I haven't opened mine yet. I was having a lot of fun watching you guys open yours." Ryder laughed, holding up his hands placatingly.

"Open it! Open it!" came the responding chant.

"Ha ha, alright! Alright!" Ryder laughed, opening up the box. He turned bright red at the signed, glossy, 9.5'x11' photo of Johanna smiling, winking, and throwing up a peace sign inside the box. "Uh, she sent me some of Mr. Porter's baked goods!" There was a small Tupperware container underneath the photo, so he wasn't even a liar.

"Ooh, really? What kind? Can we share 'em? Lemme see!" asked Marshall, jumping up on Ryder's leg in excitement at the thought of fresh baked goods.

"Oh, uh, where is Jaeger?" asked Ryder, desperate for something, anything else to become the topic of conversation.

"Huh, I didn't notice him slip away." remarked Everest. "Where did he go?"

XXX

Jaeger placed his gift on his pillow, looking at it for a long moment. He hadn't wanted to bring down the mood when he first saw it, and so took his leave during Merlin's outburst. Complex emotions swirled within him as he stared down at the gift, and the unassuming bar of dark chocolate stared back, holding no answers.

AN: Johanna is an excellent gift giver… when she wants to be.

Local Ladybird Loses to Long Arm of the Paw!
Hahah.

Although, I will point out two things.

1. It's in Adventure City, so unless the Adventure Bay Herald is reporting on-out-of-town news, you might want to change the name of the newspaper.
2. It's actually Ella and Tuck who stopped Ladybird. My headcanon for them being in Adventure City instead of Adventure Bay is really just because we don't see them until Mighty Pups and I needed them to have lived somewhere before Adventure Bay.

Change the last detail, though, and I'll make it canon.

AN: Johanna is an excellent gift giver… when she wants to be.
Nice! :D I like how it's both humorous while also heartfelt and wholesome.

Canon! Non-Hostile Actions towards the Paw Patrol next Turn gain a +15 bonus.

Sorry but, do you mind if I correct some small mistakes in your omake?

as the Paw Patrol was 2 blocks down rescuing a old lady from a tree
When asked as to why she remained in the tree for around 30 minutes
These should be words, not numbers. It makes more sense that way.
I really cant call it style."
Missing full stops.
"Oh my Poppet loves this small stuffed bird toy i got her not too long ago, i think seeing someone wearing a costume rather similar to her toy made her want to go play with the young lady, shame about her fear though, i don't understand why she is terrified of dachshund's though, they're absolutely wonderful."
The i's need to be in capital and a full stop is missing.
Poppet the dachshund refused to comment on her option of the outstanding show of bravery and heroism.
This line isn't needed anymore.
tree by 2 retiver dog
of Golden Retrievers, but only Golden Revivers
This number should be a word and Retrievers is spelt wrong.

Sorry if this comes across as too nitpicky, I hope this helps!

I know when it comes to rolls the omakes help, whatever the outcome. But I'm not talking about rolls, I'm talking about narrative/personal flaws/people's opinion of Johanna/ obstacles. It would feel cheap if an omake just sorted it out.

Complex emotions swirled within him as he stared down at the gift, and the unassuming bar of dark chocolate stared back, holding no answers.

So, I was onboard with the Magic for Dummies sent to the magician that dismissed us, but uh, is this not kind of a death threat to Jaeger? Are we even that hostile to him specifically?
