lol
i did when i was 6; i always hated exercise and liked using my brain
but lucina does not seem to be much like that kind of child, and even though i hated exercise i always was a bundle of energy that was quite rampant.
my peers all thought my restfulness strange, hence why i project the restlessness/energy-filled child that I hold of a normal child onto Lucina-- i realize that that is not truly good logic, but it's also something i believe is accounted for by the period disparity-- there are simply many fewer ways to be entertained while still in that era than in this one-- the primary way to be entertained would be books-- i suppose the board game is valid for that form of engagement, but I believe that lucy-lu would be more inclined to spend her energy with zero restraint, saving time for study for when she was too tired to exercise her body.
*shrugs* I was speaking from my knowledge of kyute wikkle taikes in general as opposed to specific; and trying to think through simplistically how some of my peers for, or kids I have observed and protected within, that age range would have thought and acted.
(running off of the assumption that Lucina only has the patience to do one subject per time at library, I am. If >1 is allowed, I'd say Plegia and Valm should be prioritized, though beyond those three I don't know. Really we should get a familiarity with all cultures if possible...)
I hesitated a bit, when I saw the first vote picked up four subects right off the bat. But those turns are covering six months periods, so it's not unreasonable either that Lucina would read about more than one topic. Right now, my ruling would be that you can indeed pick up several topics, but the more you take, the less you learn about each one (and the possible benefits are divided across the board, though when it comes to pick up an entirely new subject, it's not too penalizing yet.)

Your usual lessons continue, and you believe you're making progress at last. Well, at the very least, your tutors seem happy with you, so that's definitely an improvement. It is still hard to really get invested in what they have to teach, but at least you're putting in an effort.
Your sword lessons with father, on the other hand, are going great. According to him, you're a natural, and while your small stature is still a hinder when it comes to learn his style, you have mastered the basics. The rigorous exercises seem to have make you grown stronger as well ; at the very least, the training swords don't seem as heavy as before anymore.

Still, if you're too weak to properly use your father's style, then that's what you need to work on. You remember several Shepherds talking on how sir Frederick's training really helped them grow, so obviously, that should be the way to go, right? Right.
When you ask for his help, Frederick instantly agrees to provide you physical training once a week. However, your parents, who were present when you put in your requests, seem strangely reluctant. Your mother almost look afraid, and your father is starring at his guardian, as if trying to warn him of something. The knight seems unaffected, however, and apparently placates his charge with a promise that he would only subject you to a "light training regimen". This time, it is you who glares. You didn't come here for "light"! You silently swear to show him that during your first training session together.
***
This is hell. This is hell this is hell this is hell. Those are the only words that came to you as the victimiser who calls himself a knight makes you run yet another lap around the courtyard. There is no way this qualify as "light training"! Laps, push-ups, jumps, lifting, you feel like you've been at it for hours, yet Frederick keeps you going. A few soldiers coming through the training grounds give you looks of pity, yet none intervene on your behalf to make that torture stop. And they call themselves knights of Ylisse? Cowards!
Finally, your instructor lets you rest, and you solemnly swear that you'll never again get off the ground and take a single step in your life. Still, you're genuinely surprised when he praises your efforts. As you are when you realize that despite your inner protests, you never even thought of stopping before he told you so. And that feeling of having given everything you have? It's exhausting, but... not entirely unpleasant. Huh. Maybe there's something wrong with you.
The next week, as you stand once again before Frederick, submitting yourself once more to this inhumane treatment on purpose, you no longer have any doubt : there is definitely something wrong with you.

[X] Help Libra at Naga's shrine
The sight of Libra helping others have been an inspiring one. You always knew your duty was to "serve your people", but it was a rather abstract notion until now. Well, you decide, no more. The next time you see Libra, you ask him how you can help. He is surprised, but pleased nonetheless, and start giving you instructions, gently guiding you through the motions. During several weeks, you come regularly to Naga's shrine to tend to the sick and injured citizens of Ylisstol the best you can. The sight of a royal princess in this role is quickly noticed, but in these grounds, you know you're no longer a princess ; you're just a healer, and a novice one at that. Nonetheless, you occasionaly hear some whispers, and a name that seems to often come back : Emmeryn. You never knew your aunt, but from what little father told about her, you know it to be high praise indeed. You are not her, however, nor do you wish to be. You simply follow what you feel is right. "You are doing well, child."
During more quiet times, you keep meditating and talking to Libra. He makes for a pretty good confident, making himself easy to talk to and enduring with grace your complaints about how Frederick is most likely a demonspawn sent to torture you personally – though he does say it is theologically unlikely. Finally, once he thinks you are ready, he teaches you the use of basic healing staffs. It is a complicated process, entirely different than what you're used to ; focusing your willpower in order to cast healing magic is something you never trained for. However, Libra deems your progress satisfactory.
During those weeks, you also happen to meet two of your friends. As it turns out, Brady is also coming here regularly. From what he tells you, while so far it turns out he's terrible with weapons, he may have the making of a pretty good healer, from what his mother told him. The way he says it seems to lack any sort of enthusiasm, but you can never quite tell with Brady. The second meeting happens in more dramatic circumstances, with the sudden sight of a pale Noire, swaying dangerously as she walk through the shrine. Before you can do anything, Libra catches her, quickly evaluating her condition. As he comes to a conclusion, you can swear his look is a mixture of anger and... resignation? Nonetheless, he carries his daughter away to tend to her, and you never learn what happened that day.

[X] Quality time with your sister
You decide to continue your flying lessons – you enjoy spending time with your mother and sister, and you are quickly coming to the realization that you enjoy flying. This time, you are joined in your endeavour by Knight-Commander Cordelia, who is also all too happy to spend some time with her best friend and godsdaughters.
While the lessons do not include the use of the spear, you are introduced to a myriad of aerial manoeuvers, under the vigilant gaze of your relatives. You have to admit, you are pretty scared at the beginning, but seeing Cynthia laughing while guiding mother's pegasus in a dive is enough for you to defeat your fear ; what kind of big sister would you be if you showed weakness here? And in the end, the anxiety fades. As you learn to know Cordelia and Sumia's mounts, you feel safer and safer, and soon, you take to the sky with the same aplomb as your sister.
You also resolve to use those moments to reconnect with her. You feel like these last months passed away too fast, and you barely got the time to talk to her, which is something you feel pretty bad about. Yet, you have barely begun your conversation that you remember something you can't believe you forgot : it's almost impossible to feel bad around Cynthia. Learning about pegasi with her big sister is the best thing ever, she claims. She confess she had been a little scared after your parents return ; she knows you had to take care of her a lot before, and now that you didn't have to, she had feared you were tired of her. You hotly protest that this would never happen, and quickly find yourself wrapped in her embrace, without being able to say who started it.
In the coming weeks, you find yourself spending much more time with Cynthia. She actually comes to watch some of your training sessions with father and though she doesn't join in, you can see each advanced move you pull off leaves her awed, which in turn means you get a tendency to show off when she's there, to your father's great amusement. You also find yourself coming to her when you have a pegasus-related question you don't want to bother mother with, and she is all too eager to be able to help you. All in all, you feel like the two of you have never been closer.

Happy birthday to you!

All grown up : Strength raised to D, Endurance raised to D-, Dexterity raised to C-, Intelligence raised to E+, Willpower raised to D+, Charisma raised to D ; 1 extra action each turn
Random Event : Kjelle's demand
"... and 'lo and behold, turns out this was the Radiant Hero himself!"
Next to you, Cynthia laughs, and you can't quite suppress a smile at Owain's tale. Your cousin always had a knack for telling stories, and was always eager to share them. That made those "time together" shared by the three of you and scheduled by your respective parents rather entertaining – though sometimes, you wonder if Owain is a good influence on your impressionable sister. Still, you quite enjoy those moments.
This one, however, is cut short when a newcomer barges in : Kjelle, as usual clad in her armour – not nearly as heavy as a knight's one, but still – steps into the room, a resolute expression on her face.
"You."
That rather imprecise designation leaves the three of you uncertain. Owain hesitantly points at himself – it wouldn't be the first time the young knight would have called him like that – but she shakes her head.
"No, not you. Lucina."
Well, that's a surprise.
"Yes? Can I help you with anything?"
"I think so, yeah. From what I've heard, you've been putting on some serious training these last months, am I right?"
You nod, still curious to see where this will lead.
Behind you, you hear an energized Owain calling "Dibs on the winner!" while Cynthia let a surprised "Eh?" out. Kjelle, for her part, only smile. You can't but think that it isn't a very nice smile. A few minutes later, the four of you have found a quiet spot in the palace gardens, each with a training weapons. Your sister and your cousin stand of the side, the later apparently intent on... narrating?
"And so! The two warriors knew only one of them would be standing by the end of the day! A cruel fate, to be sure , but destiny always was a harsh mistress! To live or to die, everything would be decided now!"
"Owain, they're not going to kill each other... right?"
You tune them out, focusing on your opponent for the day. You stand at the ready as Kjelle gives her blunted spear an appreciative twirl, before assuming a fighting stance. You have to admit, clad in her heavy armor, and wielding a shield and spear of your size, she certainly seems impressive. You actually feels a small amount of trepidation at the coming fight ; this should be interesting. The knight's footing shifts, and you choose that moment to launch forward, bringing your training blade against a spear hastily raised to guard.
Strength D vs Strength D+. A fearsome clash!
You quickly learn two things in the opening round of the duel. The first : Kjelle is strong. You always knew it, of course, but it's another thing to experience it firsthand. The clash of weapons almost rips your sword from your hand, and her return strike comes close to knock you off your feet. You quickly jump back out of reach, feint left, before readying another assault. This is when you learn the second thing.
Sword D vs Spear D. A daunting challenge.
Spears are annoying. Your second assault is stopped dead in its tracks by a quick thrust, followed by many others. Kjelle's superior reach allows her to press forward at minimal risk, while you struggle to defend without any chance of counter-attack. Fine, if she doesn't give you an opportunity, you'll create one. Anchoring yourself in the ground, you deflect the next strike, letting the blow continue over your head, before rushing inside her guard, confident that she won't be able to use her spear to defend in close quarters.
In that respect, you're right. The problem is, she doesn't have to, as you quickly realize when you see your path blocked by her steel shield. The retaliatory bash sends you staggering a step back, and you barely manage to avoid the following spear sweep aimed at your feet by jumping ahead of it, before back-pedalling to gain some distance. After only a few passes, you're already breathing hard, while Kjelle seems barely tired.
Endurance D- vs Endurance D+. Defeat is looming near...
"Is that all you got?"
You scowl at the disparaging comment. While Sully's daughter is certainly a fearsome adversary, you have no intention to lose that easily. As she lunges to presumably finish you off, you meet her attack head-on, forcing her to halt her advance. You can see her eyes slightly widening in surprise as your two weapons remain locked against each other, without you giving any ground. Your muscles scream in protest against the strain you put them through, but you only grit your teeth and dig your heels deeper.
Willpower D+ vs Willpower D-. Never give up without a fight.
The both of you finally disengage, and before Kjelle can once again assume her stance, you're already on the move. Your first strike is easily deflected by her shield, but when she retaliates, you already moved on her left, your next blow catching her under the arm. With her armour, it is largely ineffective, but she nonetheless staggers a bit, and you press on.
Dexterity C- vs Dexterity E+. The battle turns.
Kjelle's defence is ferocious, retaliating every chance she gets, using her heavier frame to try to push you back. Still, it is becoming apparent that you are much faster than her, and you're intent to fully exploit that advantage. Avoiding brute clashes of strength that would only exhaust yourself even more, you stay constantly on the move, your blade darting left and right to keep the knight off balance. Finally, when you sense her defences wavering, you explode in a flurry of movements, unleashing everything you have left.
Ylissean Royal Style E+ vs - . A princess' strength.
The familiar moves learned with your father come naturally, as your blows progressively gain in strength. While Kjelle is still physically your better, she seems to not know how to react, her standard style leaving her unprepared for the sudden onslaught. As she moves to catch a blow aimed at her head, you manage to switch your guard at the last moment, and with a two-handed strike, rip the lance out her hands, sending it flying. Before she gets a chance to react, you're already going low, sweeping her legs with your own. In an instant, she is on the ground, the tip of your sword at her neck and a baffled expression on her face.
You quickly withdraw your weapon, and give your opponent a helping hand, which she takes with a grunt, still slightly out of breath.
"Damn. I really thought I had you for a moment."
"It was a hard fought match.", you agree. You feel absolutely exhausted, barely hearing your sister's cheers in the background. Your right arm feel like he's about to fall off, and your lungs are on fire. Nonetheless, you actually feel quite good about yourself. This had been indeed a close battle, and you're glad to see that all these hours of training are paying off. And Kjelle had hardly been staying idle either, you know Sully is working her to the bone. Yes, you believe you can be proud of this victory, even if this was only a sparing match.
"Well fought, both of you! A display worthy of the future defenders of Ylisse, no doubt!"
"Yeah, sis, that was amazing!"
The two spectators bring you back from your thoughts, as they're coming closer. Which is when you notice Owain has grabbed a sparring sword of his own, and flashes you a smile.
"What says you, cousin? Do you have enough energy for one more round?"
[X] Sorry cousin. Maybe later, I have to rest for a while.
Breath still a bit short, you shake your head.
"Sorry Owain, you'll have to wait for another time. I can barely hold my sword as it is."
"Aaaw."
Kjelle can't help admonish him, a scowling expression on her face.
"Challenging an exhausted opponent right after she finished a match? Don't you have any pride?"
"Oh come on, it was just an idea!"
You have to admit, though, Kjelle's words don't sit entirely right with you. Would an opponent on the battlefield give her enough time to rest? You find that doubtful. Still, you're not about to complain not having to fight your cousin right away. You're not sure of his level with a sword, but you know you would have been hard-pressed to produce a decent performance in your current state. Which is why you're pretty grateful to Cynthia when she comes to you with some water.
"That was great, Lucy! Hey, how's your lip?"
You put a hand over your mouth, where your opponent impacted you with her shield. During the match, you didn't feel it too much, probably due to the adrenaline, but now, you had to admit, it did sting quite a bit - and you think it is beginning to swell. Still...
"It should be fine in a couple of days, don't worry about it."
"If you say so. Still, you got very good! I mean, Kjelle is pretty big."
You smile to your sister.
"You know, you could probably learn too. I'm sure father would be delighted if you asked him."
"Nah, I don't think it's my thing. Fighting looks hard!"
You nod. You did train quite hard to get to this point, and you can't pretend every moment had been pleasant - you shudder when the looming image of Sir Frederick enters your mind. And Cynthia always was more... girly? You know she received basic training with spears, but she never really focused on that, being far more interested by riding a pegasus rather than learning how to fight on it. Well, it's quite alright. If you had anything to say, she would never have to risk her life in battle ; all you had to do was to become strong enough for the both of you.
"Come on, Cynthia. Let's go back."
"All right!"
As you return to the place, you hear Kjelle calling you out.
"Lucina! You better keep up your training, next time won't be so easy!"
"Very well! I'll await your next challenge eagerly!"
Your relation with Kjelle improved.
*** [X] Studying Wyvere Physiologos
Your busy schedule don't make you forget Cherche's gift. Each day, you read a few pages of the Valmese treaty, learning all you can't about wyverns. Your mother notices, and while you feared she might feel ambivalent about this project, she is instead surprisingly supportive, pointing you toward books who might help you expand on some informations yours provide. It's a bit frustrating to be only limited to theory - that lack of wyverns in Ylisse is really inconvenient! - but you soldiers on. You don't know when these informations might prove useful, but this is still a fascinating topic.

[X] Find a board-game partner
You also decide to look for a potential partner with the game Virion offered you. Your first attempts are met with mixed success. You first try your luck with Cynthia, but most of the rules seem to fly over her head, and she seems far more interested playing the horses. When she makes an honest attempt, it isn't long before you stand victorious- at which point she knocks out most of the figurines on the board, and proclaims herself Queen of Valha despite your protests that it is not how it works. Your second idea, Owain, isn't much better, him being far more interested in narrating the epic struggle between the armies of Nohr and Hoshido on the board, rather than playing the damn thing. It isn't long until you give up on him as a lost cause.
You're still thinking on others possible options (it would have been so much easier if Laurent was around!) when uncle Robin notices you with the board under your arm. He apparently recognize it instantly as being Virion's, saying he did play more than few games with him on the road. You decide this is your chance, and ask him to play one round with you. He hesitates a bit before accepting, to your delight. He then proceeds to soundly trounce you in the most embarrassing possible way. Once you get over your righteous indignation, you do the only logical thing : you challenge him again. And again. And again. He ends up pointing out that you're usually not supposed to win by making your opponent faint with exhaustion. At this point, you really don't care on how you would win, but still, you're forced to relent.
That is, until the next day, where you try your luck again. The meetings become a somewhat regular occurrence, and while you don't feel closer from scoring a win, Robin does end up giving you a few useful tips on how to better strategize your gameplay. Then he ruthlessly exploit your attempts at using those tips. Jerk. Still, between two moves, you can't help but remember your last conversation with Nah, about her dreams and Robin organizing their departure. You feel that maybe you could learn more by asking him, but is it entirely appropriate? Your father's tactician is a rather private character, and you're afraid questioning him could put him in a bad mood.

- [X] Study Valm. Yet another war fought, but why? You want to know how these people lived, what culture they participated in, the organization of their armies, the works. Rationalize the meaning of war, and...what the heck are they doing now?
- [X] Farming techniques. Yes, you have had a fantasy of working on a farm in slacks once in a while. Don't judge!
Finally, you decide to hit the library. You have many questions, and you hope books might help you answer them. The first topic is somewhat an idle fancy ; speaking with a few farmers brought to Naga's shrine left you curious about their daily lives, how they work... You are surprised to find out that there are actually many books on those very subjects ; they make for a dry read, but still, you think you have a better understanding on how the inhabitants of the Halidom remain fed.
Your second research topic concerns mercenaries. You only know one - more or less, you haven't talked much with Sir Gregor. Though he has a funny voice - but you were always intrigued about the concept of people fighting for coin. Aren't soldiers usually fighting for their country? As it turns out, it is a profession that seems far more common than you thought. For a long time, Ylisse only had a few within its border, relying on a standing professional armies, but in the wake of the Exalted Crusades (what were those? Something to look up later), the need for more swords, especially from worried merchants and frightful nobles, saw the Halidom a prime market for all kinds of sellswords. Even today, they tend to be seen as a necessary evil, tolerated as long as they don't cause trouble, and even pretty useful to keep brigands in check.
You finally decides to move toward more historical sources. It is however difficult to find decent sources on the most recent events - you suspect it might be a few years still before a comprehensive history of the latest conflict with Valm is written, for once. Still you do find a few chronicles speaking of the rise of Walhart the Conqueror and his quest to unite Valm - though his motives are mostly glossed over - and most stories tend to depict a rather brutal conquest. And from what you remember, he intended to do the same to Ylisse, until your dad stopped him. Their culture, however, is far more documented, and you are quickly lost under an avalanche of details - from the way they dress up to their places of worship - you hadn't even heard of Mila before! You feel like you'd need a lot more time to learn everything there is to it, so you decide to leave that aside for now and focus on your last point of interest.
The war with Plegia is more documented ; the archives speak of the Mad King Gangrel, how he ordered the murder of your aunt and plunged the two nations in a bloody conflict until he was finally killed. But by reading more on the topic, you stumble upon the far more controversial issue of the Exalted Crusades ordered by Exalt Valenor. Finding out that your grandfather apparently tried to destroy an entire country, and that Ylisse followed him in his quest, is a pretty scary thought. Up until now, you had been so sure Ylisse only fought to defend itself, but those authors seemed to indicate that had not always been so. But maybe they were wrong? Only one way to know : you decide to ask your dad.
Chrom is clearly reluctant, but he nonetheless takes your request seriously. Indeed,he says, his father was a frightening man, who did hurt a lot of people in his personal crusade against Plegia. He believed that if left alone, the Plegians would bring back Grima the Fell Dragon upon the world - that's a pretty ominous name, you think - and to avoid that, he was ready to spill the blood of every inhabitants of this country, almost destroying Ylisse in the process. When he died, Chrom admits he hadn't know how to feel ; it didn't feel right to mourn a man who had earned so much hatred, yet a part of him couldn't help it. Still, that left Emmeryn with an heavy burden, one that he now carry in her stead.
You can't help but ask the question who's burning your lips : was your grandfather able to use Falchion? No, says your father, he was not. You don't know how to feel about that ; on one hand, it is a relief that the Fang of Naga wouldn't serve such dark purpose. On the other hand, what would it tell about you if it turned out you couldn't use it either? Would that mean you were like your grandfather, destined to bring misery to the world? You always had wanted to ask your father to be tested to find out if you could wield Falchion, but now you're not so eager to find out.

I'm of two minds on asking Robin. I very much want to stay on his good side, on the other hand he knows. If shit goes down, if the Cult gets to his kids, we're the one(s) that are going to have to deal with it. I really need to play Fire Emblem Fates. Have no idea what's up, though I hear the Awakening future kids are in it. I am looking forward to killing the red blood family. Nurture wins over nature bitches!
Birthright: Story, bad challenge (Ryoma OP plz nerf)
Conquest: Challenge, bad story (Corrin = Too dumb to live... although the final boss is pretty awesome)
Revelations: Still in the middle of the LP for it.
Depends what you look for, really. In terms of story, it's rather unimpressive, in my opinion. Still, I had fun with castle building and online options.
