New Good Seed and Omake Rule Updates
Good Seed and Omake Spreadsheet Rules:

Firstly, if you have questions about Good Seeds and the like please read here. If that doesn't answer your question please ping me in thread, or on Discord.

If you write a new Good Seed, or write an omake, please update the spreadsheet if you have access.

If you do not have access, please ping a collaborator (Swordomatic, Alectai, Quest, TehChron, Insane-Not-Crazy, Humbaba, ReaderOfFate, Kaboomatic, no., BungieONI) letting them know what you want and they will update the spreadsheet here. To gain access, you will need a gmail account of some kind. Throwaway emails are fine (I'm using one for the spreadsheet), but to gain access it's as simple as sending me either your email via PM, via DM in Discord, or just in Discord's #spreadsheet-requests channel.

This is mandatory. If a Good Seed does not record their omake by pinging collabs (or just requesting access and editing things themselves - this is the preferred option), I won't give out awards. If a new Good Seed is not recorded here, they won't advance. By doing this it makes the whole thing manageable for me - it's gotten pretty unwieldy!

-----------------------

Omake Writer Instructions:

There are four fields you need to fill out.

Omake Link, which is just a link to your first omake for the turn. This makes it easier for me to read them as I do the update - without this it's tough to know off the bat which omake were written this turn, and to properly

Requested Bonus, which is your requested bonus for your omake. You can leave it up to me if you like. You can see more info in the Good Seed infopost here.

Cultivation Aims. For those following unorthodox paths - higher than 9th Heavenstage or later than 7th Dao Pillar paths. Please put in what you are aiming for before you break through. I have left it as 'default'. If you do not edit it, I'll go with that.

Turn Notes - Do you want to do something specific? Enter a Secret Realm? Help the Clan out in some way? If you have something specific you want to accomplish on this turn, put it in turn notes so I can adjust your Fate around it.

All other fields are for QM use to record character information to properly run the flow of the game.

Broadly I see it as groups of cultivators under Legion discipline going across the lands, escorting merchants, righting wrongs, and so on. The traditional reasons for a state to maintain concentrations of force at points for things like political control don't really apply in Turtle World - your ruling caste are your concentrations of force, and it's very rare you'd see cultivators formed up into a legion of thousands except in times of war.

However, basic training is crucial - the Clan spends a lot of time and energy making sure cultivators are able to work together in formation at the drop of a hat, even if you spend a lot of time adventuring alone.

Part of me thinks of it as somewhat analogous to the Roman army in the middle Republic period, where service in the legions was compulsory, but most soldiers spent most of their time not being legionnaires. In the Golden Devils you technically hold rank all the time, but obviously most of your time isn't actually spent as a legionnaire fighting.

The comparison is more apt than I might have thought, actually. Golden Devils conscripted into the ranks of the legions as a consequence of cultivating, the various minor powers in the region serving as foederati on major campaigns - the main difference of course is that the legions aren't just military structures here, they're also social ones and cultural ones - if everyone is a soldier, the legions aren't just military institutions, they're closer to highly militarized villages or towns, or maybe tribes.
huh. Any chance this can be threadmarked as Clan Structure ? Hmm, i'm getting shades of Codex Alera, where the number of Top Tier talent will also affect the internal rankings of the Legions.

I guess this would make it possible to have Legions giving out rewards to the Cultivators within them to maintain or improve their internal rankings.

Fellow Commander Welcome! Nice to see another Good Seed that seems to be aiming for Formation focus ? I'll really like the idea of leading cultivators into battle and i'm glad that there are other good seeds aiming for the same!

Well, formations are not Aris' main focus, he is a relatively standard all-round/sword cultivator in combat. I read having formations as a Clan focus as meaning investing considerable time and resources into training everyone in these techniques and drilling cooperation into them, instead of for example teaching everyone the Clan's Secret Ancestral Sword Art and having every junior practice the perfect cut a million times (thus encouraging everyone to take the sword path and attracting foreigners seeking to pursue the sword path, as they would be better than regular sword path cultivators by default). I imagine that the combat situations in which these formations can be used are actually rather limited (as opposed to most other cultivation paths), and therefore most cultivators in a formation-specced Clan would have a baseline combat skill that they use in most situations. As a consequence, there would be a limited amount of actual Formation specialists -- you just need to have all your cultivators do the technique in formation, while only needing a few experts controlling/directing it.

Aris would then be the guy telling everyone when to form up and hold fast and when to break up and charge, but ideally leave the actual formation-controlling to an expert.

 It strikes me that our talents compliment each other well

More seriously, depending on if my Fate Roll succeeds this turn and on what Formations get added to the Clan Library, the synergy might be pretty good. It was mentioned before that there are formations that grant everyone's Qi/atk/def/ any stat you prefer to 1 champion, so if that is created it's literally possible to recreate the Champion Duels from Homer.

An Army Channeling Qi to their Champion as he faces down the enemy champion! I mean something like that will benefit cultivators who go for a more common path since it's more clear on how it can be implemented ?

Also.
replacing HECTOR with the midstage boss our Clan has to fight. :D

About to head off to work, but I must ask, are we going to get a 'Regional Report' from the perspective of 'Outsiders' at the end of the Report List?

Because I'm very curious as to what the outsider view of the Golden Devils are, since this report seems to at least be making a token effort at being accurate over being a propaganda piece.

This has probably been covered before but I can't find it, but what's the difference between the Flood Dragon Gang as Allies and the Shimmering Soup Sect and Hong Xuan Clan as (Ally) if there is any. Is it because the Flood Dragon Gang is a band of wandering cultivators that isn't a territorial power?

The Flood Dragon Gang are a bit more powerful/more closely tied to us than the other two, mainly because we spent a shiny on getting them as our allies

Ahhh so they're like more reliable allies instead of vassal Sect/Clans then? I.e the Shimmering Soup and Hong Xuan are more subservient.

Magnus Centenius 6 - Adventures in Cooking
Magnus pt.6 Adventures in Cooking

Normally, a kitchen in a popular restaurant would be a scene of controlled chaos and chefs move from station to station preparing dishes of great taste and effects. Instead, the kitchen is just a scene of chaos. Bright red smoke clouds the space as chefs run around blind with tears streaming down their face. Magnus, the poor fool who caused this mess, was rolling on the floor in pain as the first person to have been blasted in the face with the smoke. As it turns out, cook and chemistry does have some major differences. In this case, throwing in something is a decent water content to a pan that is cooking something spicy on high heat is not the best idea.

Now, most would just consider this a learning experience and move on, but for poor Magnus this was the third time that week something like that happened, and it was the first day of the week. The last time, he created some kind of melting soup that ate through the wood bowl it was poured into and through the floor until it hit the stone foundation. Then there was the time one of his BP somehow got into the stew he was making and it turned into some kind of monstrous blob that tried to eat the whole restaurant before Magnus could stop it.

His master, an old spirit chef named Mia, decided that if Magnus could only make poisonous food disasters, then maybe he could make something that is suppose to poison a person. Thus, Magnus was passed on to a Brew master to learn the ancient art of making popular consumable poisons. His new master, Sake, was a master of making strong and delicious wine. More specifically, he makes brandy and wines that become better with age. Some of the better ones can be aged for hundreds of years before reaching peak flavor.

Not that Magnus is trusted with such responsibilities yet. First, he has to successfully brew a drinkable wine, before refining the wine into brandy. Then, he will be allowed to learn the secret of making a long lasting brandy and wine.

After five years of failed batches, over cooked distilled brandies, and incorrectly made containers. Magnus was finally able to make passable batch of both wine and brandy made from that wine. His master allowed him to become a journeyman brewer, and promptly kicked him out to find his own way in the world.

Magnus put put his first successful batch of wine into 10 bottles and the brandy into a single barrel. He sent them home to store until they were ready to drink.

Happy with a new skill to practice, Magnus went off to the desert to find hallucinogenic cacti and new poisonous creatures to mix into his alcohol to create something new.

@occipitallobe i think this is my worst Omake, it hated me. I think I'm going to have more fun making up fruits to make drinks out of. Not excuse me, I have a bottle of Moutai with my name on it

I haven't written much about the Flood Dragon Gang, but their primary difference (apart from those listed above) is that they have an Early Nascent Soul in command. Territorial allies are essentially well-treated vassals. The Flood Dragon Gang share major similarities of philosophy with the Golden Devils, so they're likely to come to your aid even at significant risk to themselves.

It's very broad at the moment. I might think over it more, and make a more comprehensive version my next infopost once the various Regional Power posts are done and consolidated.

I actually wasn't going to do one for the Desert Barbarians, but it wouldn't be a huge imposition, so I might to round the list off.

Vote done. A short one for a minor thing (for those worried about spelling, I'll drop the second 'g' from craggs).

Year 53 - The Night Devil Fortress
The Night Devil Fortress.

Seven great walls, each bearing a name in the Old Tongue, the Tongue of the Clan. It sat around a massive array, an offshoot of the Shattering Glass Spear Array of sorts. Rather than built to fire a single massive spear capable of slaying those in Foundation Building with ease, it was there to fire hundreds and thousands of lesser spears at enemies en masse, the array itself carved into the skull of Elder Corpse Gulper. The skull was laid into a great piece of sandstone, and around the fortress were hidden many targeting arrays. It sat near the border against the Devil Bee Sect, and was to serve as a massive source of artillery fire against them, enabling the Clan to strike at them with impunity as they flew into the lands of the vassals and allies of the Golden Devils.

Manuel had been called there to both inspect it, but moreso to open it officially, to let the Xin and Hua see their new protector, the symbol of Clan protection - and authority - over them. With raids from the Devil Bees growing greater, there were fears among both minor powers as to what might happen, and it was key to ensure that if their longtime enemy chose to invade, they would bite down on bone, not meat.

"This wall is named Apelpisía, or Despair. For when the first wall falls, the second wall is where the defenders shall face despair, and must reach deep within themselves to fight on.", a Foundation Building woman spoke.

Manuel did not know her - she was one of the builders and architects of the Clan, and he rarely felt the need to interact with them directly.

A fine, seven-walled fortress, sitting at the entrance to the Great Ravine, the easiest way for Devil Bees to fly out of their territory and into Golden Devil Clan territory. It was not the defense he might have planned personally, but, then again, he thought of these things in terms of Nascent Souls, or Late Core Formation cultivators at the very least. To counter the raiders in lesser realms, better to turn to those who had experience in fighting them, and who would be endangered if their plans failed. How could he plot against the weaknesses of a Qi Condensation cultivator? They had nothing but weaknesses compared to him, and so it was difficult. Yes, leave Qi Condensation to Qi Condensation, for the most part.

A few days later he returned home, the Hua Empire having renewed higher tributes and offered him a bowl of their finest Weeping Spirit Dates. Not very useful for a cultivator, but certainly delicious. He bit into one as he flew along, nodding his head at the sweet taste. He would have to share some with Kleisthenes, to make up for the prank he had pulled...

-----------------

A few years earlier...

Manuel hurried home, carrying Corpse Gulper's dismembered corpse with him. Who knew what allies he had? Who knew what threats lay in wait? Better to return home, recover all his Qi slowly, and search out the possible threats over the next few years before leaving the Clan headquarters again. He doubted such a plot to kill him existed, of course, at least directly. But he would much prefer to face such a possibility with his Core Formation Elders informed, his Qi recovered, and a few years to think over and search out any peculiarities that existed in the Clan's territories. Taking due care was tiresome, but consistent hard work and equally consistent carefulness were the keys to victory, not recklessness.

Still.

He sent out a message to his Council, letting them know what had happened. All but Kleisthenes.

He flew to her home directly, letting a fragment of his aura interact there. Feeling nobody at home but her, he smiled.

Perfect. Vengeance would be his.

He knocked on the door.

Kleisthenes answered.

"Yes, Grand Elder?"

He grinned.

"You know, Kleisthenes. I went out to fight Child Corpse Gulper, and let's just say I accomplished quite a feet."

He pulled out the leg to show her, foot first.

She recoiled violently.

"Manuel, what on Earth-"

"Kleisthenes, Kleisthenes. Don't get worried, make sure you keep your head about you!"

He pulled the bloodied head from his immortal aperture. This time she calmed down, looking at him with something between horror, frustration and a tremendous urge to laugh.

She snorted and coughed all in one peculiar motion, and spoke.

"Grand Elder. Thank you for gracing my house tonight. After all, it is my son's birthday celebration."

Manuel froze. He hadn't felt that at all. Probably some clever array to hide lesser cultivators to allow her to... no, no. It was the corpse. The fading aura of the dead Nascent Soul made it hard to feel lesser auras, and he had let his guard down once back in the core of the Golden Devil fortifications.

However, the boy was there - Manuel remembered seeing the report, how he had advanced to Foundation Building before his 100th birthday - and looking somewhat... nonplussed.

Time slowed to a crawl as he let his Soul take over, thinking more rapidly, pausing the excruciating process of cultivation for half a breath as he attempted to think of his next move. She had outplayed him! Coming to her house to make jokes and simply leaving was not done. A few jokes in poor taste as part of a celebration while offering a gift to apologise for dragging her away from her son's birthday... yes, it fit well enough.

"Of course, fellow Elder. I came here both to celebrate and call you to Council, but also to give the fine young man a gift by way of apology. I could hardly drag you away from such a celebration without offering something in return for your time."

He thought frantically. Yes, yes, a good lifesaving treasure.

He pulled out one-half of a palm frond that had been shrunken down to fit into the palm of a hand.

"Here you are, young Hektor. Simply wave this, and you will find yourself one hundred li closer to the Spirit Palm in the centre of the clan that gave the leaf - or under its boughs, if you should be less than one hundred li away. A useful treasure for one of the Clan's great talents, we would hate to see you fall."

With that, he called Kleisthenes away. There was much to discuss in Council - the prizes they had won in victory would be much-needed across the Clan, and having them work to distribute them efficiently and immediately would be crucial.

----------------

@Enigma - your lifesaving treasure! You'll still get a regular Fate roll otherwise, don't worry.

Ferenike - Good Seed Background
Ferenike - Good Seed Background

From the sands at the edge of the Hong Xuan Clan and the land where Child Corpse Gulper fell in battle with Archegetes Konstantinos a girl in the 1st Heavenstage walked into the lands of the Clan. In her hands she held the broken spear and shorn in half shield of one of the Legion, and strapped on her back she carried the corpse of a Legionnaire. When she arrived at a Clan outpost and stepped into the small oasis the Legion maintained there the sentries found her trailing drying blood from a dozen wounds and broken bones marring her bronze flesh and staining her sandy hair pink with dried blood, her flesh blistered by the heat of the Sun and her brown eyes dead with exhaustion. Having fulfilled her self appointed task she collapsed into the grass and lost consciousness.

When Ferenike amazingly awoke the following day the doctors there found her able and willing to move even with her horrible wounds, her force of spirit driving her on as she requested to speak to a Centurion in the tongue of the barbarians. One was already waiting for her and swiftly set about interrogating her for her story.

What came out was a tale of a journey across the sands in the lands of the Hong Xuan Clan. She had been separated from her nomadic family by bandits of the Blood Path before being saved by pair of cultivators, one of the Golden Devils and a Flood Dragon Gang member, both Qi Condensation cultivators. With her family dead and their bodies spread across the sands she traveled with these two men for two years, helping them in their battles using what little she had learned in her family as the Golden Devil regaled her with tales of the Clan to which her appearance indicated she was likely related.

Until tragedy struck again and the Flood Dragon member was swallowed by a Thousand Glass Furnace Scorpion and the Golden Devil member was grievously wounded, breaking his equipment on the chitin of the beast before it was slain. As the poison of the beast ran through his veins the Golden Devil scion directed her to bury his friend and gave her his remaining Spirit Stones. Then he told her what would be his last wish, to be carried to the nearest Clan outpost so that he could either receive treatment or be buried on Clan lands.

Ferenike carried him across the sands, fighting off beasts attracted to the smell of blood and poisoned tissues with the man's broken spear and the sharp edge of his broken shield, gathering wounds across the journey, not sleeping or resting as she walked through the day and night as the sun boiled at her flesh and the night winds lashed at her with whips of sand. The man died on the third day of her trek, just before she reached the outpost, but even as her failure crushed her with despair she kept going. Endless patience and insistence drove her limbs forward as the sands seemed to stretch to infinity before she reached the outpost.

When she finished, she asked the Centurion if she could join the Legions. Moved by her compassion for one of his former men and her willful determination he accepted the young girl and arranged to have her sent her off to the Fortress for training with a recommendation. After attending the funeral of her friend she traveled to the Fortress in a supply caravan, spending the travel there healing and going over the pamphlets on the and there she was tested and found fit for the body of the Legion, those individuals who provide the mass of cultivators for the Hoplite formation.

She took to it like a bird to the sky, becoming a solid reliable core of her squad, finding the circulations and breathing regimen of the Hoplite coming to her naturally. Her incredible well of patience pushed her on, a rock for her squad-mates to center around and follow after. She excelled with the spear and the aspis shield of the Legion, one a dancing scorpion tail and the other an impenetrable bulwark in her hands. She couldn't do less than excel.

She'd decided that horrible day in the Desert when her last friend died that she wasn't strong enough now to change the world into what she wanted, and remembering his final words to her she knew that the only thing standing in her way to that strength was time and effort. Her Dao is the Dao of Patience, the grinding sands of millennia wearing away a cruel edifice which would see her happiness crushed between its gears, every breath she takes, every gasp of Qi torn from the world one more victory for her and one more loss for the Heavens.

@occipitallobe decided to dip my hand into making a Good Seed. For her Starting Perk I want Resilient Will. She knows what she wants to do and she is patient enough to work for it, though I do want to double check my assumption that it helps with the doubt parts of Tribulations.

Current Status as of Turn 5: 97 Years Old as of Year 120, Cultivator of the Eleventh Heavenstage of Qi Condensation (1 turns from breaking through to the Twelfth Heavenstage, 204 approximate Cultivation Years). 200 year life span. Healthy.
Starting Perk: Resilient Will - Ferenike's willpower and patience is absurd in her cohort, giving her resistance to the doubts brought on by Tribulations.
Impact Boosts: The Boiling Legion of Glass Body bloodline has reemerged after a thousand years of dormancy in her body.
Overall Impact: +7. Invincible in Qi Condensation.
Impact Breakdown:
-Bloodline: +1
-Fate: +2
-Ghost Stoneflag: +4
Crazy Stuff
: Attempting to reach the 12th Heavenstage. Seeking lore on the requirements one needs to fulfill to reach the Emperor's Pillar (Ninth Pillar) stage in Foundation Building.

Lifesaving Treasures: An Eight Silver Wind Binding.
Healing Treasures: Seven Venom Serpent Coffin (Spent. Used on Turn 5).

Created Formations:
Century Oasis Formation. This formation draws on the power of the desert sands, air, the sun and the moon, tapping into the dragonlines which flow through it and it concentrates this power amongst the members of the formation. The users of this formation share vitality, speed of healing, and endurance which is further amplified by the concentrated amount of desert Qi. Thusly, cohorts using this formation find themselves expending fewer Spirit Stones to heal and march through the desert or improving the effect of Spirit Stones they do expend, thus enhancing our advantages in our home.

Turn Three Fate: Auspicious Caravan - Ferenike and her squad were patrolling a road as they were attacked, a Foundation Building rebel expert against the Cannibals seeking to use them, as well as a caravan of five thousand mortals they were guarding as his own Blood Path foundation. The entire squad were badly wounded, but managed to hold out - after their Hoplite Formation fell, Ferenike managed to personally distract and delay the enemy enough for an allied Foundation Building expert from the Flood Dragon Gang to arrive. An excellent contribution that won her enough Contribution Points to quickly recover her injuries and cultivate frantically, reaching the 8th Heavenstage in a mere two decades. One of the mortals was the son of a Core Formation Elder, who forged her a Teleportation Amulet, 'that you may escape danger once as you have saved the life of my son once'.

Turn Four Fate: The Hand of War - Sent south to the war. With her group of trainees, she was involved in the disastrous defeat where the Elder of War was killed. Wounded, she managed to shepherd most of her trainees into a southern city, only to find it under siege by the Devil Bees. After months of siege, the city of Guo Wo fell, and the remaining garrison of the city were driven out. They were rescued by a column of relief troops, but Ferenike was Badly Wounded, trying to save what little remainder of her command. The only bright point in her past decades was her ability to break through cultivation-wise prior to heading south.

Turn Five Fate: Trials of Command - Lead a makeshift legion at Pleuron, leading the defense after the city was abandoned by the Elders for almost three weeks before the Foundation Building Experts arrived. Several forays into other besieged cities to rescue juniors. Seized a Dark Sin Mango from an enemy cultivator who fled, gaining much cultivation as a result. Able to gain forty years of cultivation in twenty, no small thing.
Cultivation - Reached the 10th Heavenstage (-3 to 11)
Health -
Full.

Turn Six Fate: Tutelage from Dust - Falling from the sky, Ferenike saw two unfortunates fall around her, thrown away by the tearing and ripping of space. Luck was with her, though, and as she reached a whirlwind, she was thrown again into the sky, flying hundreds of thousands of li away. Eventually she landed, in the home of what had clearly once been an ancient cultivator. "Kowtow three times and take me as your master, and I will acknowledge you as an honorary disciple in the art of formations.", said the notes on the grave outside. She did, and a fragment of will poured into her brain, existing for only a few seconds. In those few seconds it redesigned her Century Oasis Formation, turning it from a thing only usable by the lower echelons of Qi Condensation into something usable by all below Core Formation. 'A gift to a new disciple', was the whisper. Alongside the legacy was a small book with a number of notes on formations, a powerful Ghost Stoneflag (+4 Impact), a formation flag carved from ghosts that had been imprisoned for so long they petrified into a sort of stone. With it, formations are easily set up, less easily broken, and it serves as the keystone of any major formation with ease. A Hoplite led by Ferenike will not break until the last drop of Qi is exhausted from all within, and will work with immaculate efficiency. Lastly, some insights on cultivation, along with a few scattered herbs and spirit stones - trash to an ancient cultivator, but enough to push Ferenike into the 11th Heavenstage, and barely a step from the 12th.

Escaping was not easy, however. On leaving she found herself surrounded by a series of angered Star-Eels seeking prey, and had she not used one of her precious treasures, her chances of escape would have been nil.

tsk tsk tsk Manuel. Your prank failed so hard you had to give your prankee's son a birthday gift. He had eyes but was not able to see the birthday streamers.

I have an idea for a making an affordable to use puppet. There are 2 main reasons a puppet is expensive. First the materials used are not cheap, it's basically the stuff you make armor out of, but enough to make a whole body. Second, you need a lot of Qi or spirit stone to power it. Otherwise it won't have the power needed to hurt people stronger than you. My idea is that the puppet is turned into a poison puppet, closer to the puppets in Naruto. They are suppose to be destroyed and release a cloud of powerful poisons.
All I need is an array expert to make a wind array to spread my poison as far as possible when destroyed. And maybe a 1-2 defense array so it looks like a normal puppet

@Enigma - your lifesaving treasure! You'll still get a regular Fate roll otherwise, don't worry.
There's something strangely funny about an austere powerhouse showing someone a severed head and making a pun about it.

Index updated up to Ferenike. No joke, I'd been at the end of my seat the past two days just waiting for the good seed post to come, because I have to update all the status after that.

PFFFF! That was awesome! I get the sense that our Grand Elder likes to prank himself lol, either that or his paranoia level to pranks is on a hair trigger.

Well.. Technically our Clan's profession is Array making, so i guess that next turn you can either set " Poison Puppet " as a Fate Goal and let RNG see if you succeed in creating one for the Clan like what i'm doing this turn for Formations ? Nothing to say that you can't work with a Clan expert for 20 years on creating it after all.

Alternatively, you can go for it as a 1 cool thing bonus to get it as a guranteed but tied solely to the good seed.

The hard part in making anything is the first try, I want to make this mass produced in time for the trials, that way when our people are attacked, the other sects take disproportional damage

@occipitallobe decided to dip my hand into making a Good Seed. For her Starting Perk I want Resilient Will. She knows what she wants to do and she is patient enough to work for it, though I do want to double check my assumption that it helps with the doubt parts of Tribulations.

I'm fine with that. Most Good Seeds take a bonus more in line with combat or generic strength, so I'm happy for Ferenike to have a bonus to Tribulations. That being said, she will be a little more likely to suffer mild negative outcomes (primarily wounding, or injuries causing her to lose cultivation in a battle) relative to the her cohort of more combat/strength-focused Good Seeds.

I've got plans for that, but her big thing is staying alive and to keep going as long as possible. Patience doesn't come cheap and such like.
