I'm all for looking into Dementors but didn't they all leave with the Aurors back to the ministry? I have an idea how we can track down that specific Dementor though - we should see if we can utilize the Patronus's seeking out function. Binding a dementor into our service has potential Death shenanigans too.

As for the plot we might be only left with Tonks for now. Engage with her using whatever means the thread deems necessary.

Edit: Oh yeah and there's Sirius. Completely forgot about him.. He was involved in the investigation too.

Attacking Tonks can vary easily backfire. Remember we used the forgetful potion to get rid of snapes memories and he still has them imagen if we attacked Tonks and the same thing happened then we would be sent straight to Azkaban

so after we get an O on our OWLs, convincing Mcgonagal to let us take the NEWT should be easier. at that point I propose that we ask Mcgonagal to let us take the faculty entry exam for Astronomy, Since I doubt they actually wrote down a rule that a student of Hogwarts cannot simultaneously be an instructor at Hogwarts.

consider that being an instructor at hogwarts would take us time. What would we get from that which would be worth it?

Firstly, the ability to flex on our friends and so called peers, secondly a teacher at the foremost magic school probably has a massive research budget. Thirdly, there may well be some secrets of hogwarts that we would be told if we became faculty. Fourthly, getting a headstart on employment could let us get our economic freedom earlier.

the first is already handled by the time we're obviously qualified. or by the time we've passed our owls and newts. and if we flex too hard, people might just conclude we're beyond them (many already probably do) and stop registering it as 'flexing' instead of 'the nature of the world'.

The second may be true, but. what can we actually spend money on that is useful? I didn't get the impression the Wizarding economy had anything valuable to harrys learning- otherwise why didn't harry buy it with the money he Does have? Ancient runes could benefit from better materials for final projects, but not learning, I think; Astrology is very knowledge-oriented, not external reagents based in a way I've noticed, and dark arts are illegal.

Third is a valid point, though I don't particularly expect it to pan out.

Fourth is irrelevant similarly to the second, and also because Harry already has a sufficient degree of power that he will simply be able to make money if he has to, i think. He made a vaguely-defined notable amount with the cooling stones earlier, for instance.

man, I really want the Hermetic attainment, it puts us within spitting distance of a house elf's magic power, and between child prodigy and greatness: spells, it should significantly ease our academic troubles, freeing us up to focus more on our specialties without risking our grades.

The larger the amount of spells being boosted by greatness the less effect it has. So it might not have that great a effect

Yeah, we definitely won't become hypercompetent, but even a medium amount of talent in spells when combined with + 50% learning speed for such disciplines should definitely suffice to let us keep up on coursework for those subjects, and + 100% learning speed for non-magical areas of study, which I imagine would cover history of magic at least. Not to mention that it also has the side benefit of boosting our already absurd proficiency in the dark spells section of the Dark Arts.

I had a curious musing. The animagus potion is tedious to brew and depends on a lot of factors like cloudless moonlight and thunderstorm.. otherwise you have to keep redoing it over months. Harry though, could just horoscope it and see his probability of a successful brewing checking on the weather conditions ahead. And then only make the attempt on the month he had a guaranteed odds of success.

And later we could pull stunts like leaving everburning candles in select safespots so we can travel to them in our transformed state - the travel through fire thing. Most wizarding homes all have fireplaces so we could easily visit people as well without floo powder or dealing with wards.

We should attempt to follow through with the older hanging plots. We never found out what was the source of the screaming in the dungeon or what Hecate was up to. The potions thief who is now a third year.

The ghost plot with the bloody baron we triggered with Neville fell through as well. Now that we have Ron and Hermione we could follow through and see if there's any founders interaction there with Slytherin and Ravenclaw.. Another interesting tidbit, the Fat friar seems to have gone into seclusion from the late 80s. He is rarely seen and doesn't interact with people anymore.

Also I propose Harry starts calculating his monthly odds of a successful Animagus transformation in his regular monthly horoscope from now on.

We have confirmation that the potions thief was a second year during that time. The death eater shenanigans were only a Halloween thing. Daphne just indirectly gave them information for the passage into Hogwarts unnoticed.

Anyways.. I was thinking that the Patronus could enable us a few certain unique actions - specifically the messenger function.

Imagine finding anyone hidden anywhere and being able to send them your voice. We could sic a Phoenix onto the Azkabanite for instance - and make a declaration of war. Or should we recover our memories we could similarly message the Gilded King - to open up intrigue and collaboration. He did say he was aligned with us.

Using the Patronus to hunt down the Dementor involved with the artifact is also a possibility.

Also a Patronus would lets us do some coordination stuff too beyond the codex. Say Harry's friends are trapped somewhere for example and they're unable to use the codex we could send the Patronus to them and give them useful information - like where to go for help.

And I might be wrong about this but canonically didn't the Patronus-speak bypass the Fidelius charm?

After literally blowing off any plot prompt, I think that investing overly much into the situation comes across as erratic and inconsistent - more so since we have no actual leads to pursue.
I think that we should take this turn to create an infrastructure for our investigation and attempt to outsource some of the investigative work to others and then wait for another prompt to appear and grab onto it.

Additionally, a few of the spells that we are to learn this month are very interesting.
The Obliteration Charm, in particular, is interesting, and I'd want Harry to master it to a good degree.

There is also the matter of removing the curse on the DADA position, which is something that I think that we should do given the fact that Sirius now has a new hobby and we don't know how it will interfere with his teaching ability and given the nature of the curse as expelling anyone who is a worse teacher than young Geist I'd really rather not find out.

With that in mind, here is my plan:

[X] Plan Foundations
-[X] Devotion to Schoolwork
-[X] Inform the members of the inner circle of all of your findings regarding the Aurors and their plans so that they may conduct their own investigation. Ask them to keep you informed since you care about this development just as much as they do.
-[X] Use your prowess with Astrology to remove the curse over the DADA Professor position
-[X] Attempt to bind a few dementors to your will so that they may act as covert agents for you or, if not possible, to receive updates regarding the situation around the castle. Attempt to use the Patronus charm to aid you in both holding them back as you are binding them and in possibly locating specific dementors of interest (such as the one that was attacked). Otherwise do so by questioning the dementors.
