To seek death would be to potentially throw away everything we've worked for...

[X] Seek Death

...and yet.

Excerpts from Discord about Greatness, the Dark Arts and Gnosis.

L
hmm
how much greatness do we currently have
getting an idea of how valuable a +greatness is would be key to this one

Birdsie
4, but you started with 3

L
damn
so singularity + mastery
was only worth one
oof

Birdsie
Greatness isn't power-level
It's an abstract representation of how dastardly awesome you are at heroic exploits and being the most important person in the world
Hermes Trismegistus, when he peaked out, had around ~20 Greatness
Merlin would've had around ~40 in his prime incarnation, and the Founders around ~15-16 in their primes, and closer to 10 Greatness around their old age.
I won't tell you how much Dumbledore and Voldemort had.

J
so, would it be true to say harry got +1 greatness from his contributions to this crisis, not any of his training?
like the pocketstones, runeplank, and warning?

Birdsie
On that note, a blurb exists called Eminent Attainment; one of its prerequisites is to have a lot of Greatness. I won't tell you what it does, but its opening line is, "To have more greatness than anything is to be the greatest thing in the universe - the axis the worlds orbit."

F
And if we choose the first or second option, will we be able to steal gnosis because of Harry's new motivation?

Birdsie
Harry's underwent drastic change as you'll see next chapter
But anyway, no, he'd not consider stealing Gnosis
Stealing Gnosis is not an efficient method of gathering Gnosis
I'm not sure why you guys are so stuck on that
Harry, brought to his full potential can make far easier and more effective methods

L
are there any more efficient methods of gathering gnosis outside of what we've got
or, which fields should we pursue?

Birdsie
Yes, now that you've reached Master of Dark Arts, there's multiple stupidly powerful synergies you can pursue
Especially with Heartbroken Attainment that's trained properly
you can make a potion that's kind of like an inverse Baruffio Brain Elixir, but affects the soul instead of the mind
you give it to someone, they drink it
and they promptly bleed (literally, physically, bleed) out their enlightenment from their skin as drops you can gather
it'd give you about 2x as much Gnosis per individual as Astrological thievery
although it's lethal

L
rip
astro thievery is just so pleasantly automatic tho

Birdsie
Sure, but it's a lot of effort for minimum gains
I thought you SVers
are all about maximizing returns while being lazy bastards

L
but murdering people for gnosis is just
too annoying

Birdsie
if you want a less lethal version, there's another synergy
you can make a runic tattoo on someone that simply feeds you a direct trickle of their enlightenment into yourself
they'll never again advance in magic significantly, but if they keep trying, you'll get insane amounts of gnosis
so you steal other people's carving

F
How does this tattoo affect Muggles?

Birdsie
Since Muggles can't do shit with magic, it doesn't really do anything

F
And how will this tattoo interact with house elves or homunculus magicians?

Birdsie
To great result
A 6+ Magic Power being feeding you its enlightenment directly?
Goodness me
Even though you're theoretically capable of it, Harry won't apply these for a while, because he's done insufficient R&D
Maybe in a year from now

L
before we get grandmastery over the dark arts
DA is just too good
holy shit

J
like if you stop improving at all, you'd probably stop practicing.

Birdsie
Not advancing other subjects enough is part of the reason why you're in such a pickle right now!
I wouldn't advise it!

F
I suggest we take mental health and the time we wanted to spend on healing, to give to the study of dark studies.

Relevant information from Discord. Hogwarts has charms that detect frequent use of Baruffio's Brain Elixir. Geist Knows they exist but not how to circumvent them.

Is it brewing of it or drinking it? Because if we spike all the drinks or foods with it, that would kind of spoof it by virtue of lots of "false signals". Not that I expect it to be trivial due to house elves, but maybe something along those lines?

I'm guessing everyone voting Seek Death already realizes this and cares more about shaping Harry into being hardcore, but not getting the benefits of the other options *does* mean he's less likely to actually achieve that goal.

At least the other two options provide benefits so that Harry either doesn't have mental health issues (I feel like that's being undervalued) or has more greatness/capacity to snowball and win in the end.

No matter which option is chosen, we can then guide Harry to be more active and pursue the main plot/lore of this quest.

Birdsie
Greatness is half an ISH stage higher than normal magic.
It'd be difficult to achieve that.

L
damn
what stage is normal magic generally operating at?

Birdsie
Around ISH 2. A Muggle effect of infinite technological complexity (ISH 1.999(9)) that induces sleep in a victim would be defeated by a sufficiently energized Reviving Spell.

F
Is greatness added to magical power?

Birdsie
No. It determines your ability to reach above mortals.

F
Will this raise the limit of how much you can strengthen yourself with rituals?

Birdsie
It will decrease the limits of everything.
Because you're greater.

L
how can we earn greatness?
other than following fate's path for us

Birdsie
By grace, unbidden and undeserved.

F
Gnosis Theft Tattoos are a synergy of runes + dark arts? Is it possible to make a tattoo invisible and invisible after application? What happens if you tattoo a demon? Will the tattoo work if you then send the demon back home?

Birdsie
Yes. Yes. I dunno. No.

F
Is it possible to change a tattoo with the help of astrology to allow gnosis to be taken away from demons recalled to the abyss?

Birdsie
Astrology wouldn't help here.
What kind of Astrological method enchants tattoos to work in Hell?

F
I thought we could use the stars as gnosis transmitters from the demons to us.

Birdsie
Hell has no stars.

F
Is it possible to make tattoos that accumulate gnosis?
Demons sit in hell and accumulate gnosis in tattoos. We summon a demon and take the accumulated gnosis.
(This is how I imagine dark herbology)

Birdsie
Sure, but the limit would be roughly .01 Gnosis. Also demons can't generate Gnosis in Hell, there's no enlightenment to draw on down there.
You'd need to find a method of forcing them.

F
In hell, gnosis can't accumulate conceptually, or they just don't do anything there, so gnosis doesn't appear?

Birdsie
The latter.

F
But if we can convince them to perform actions that create gnosis (for example, meditation), then everything will work out?

Birdsie
No, because they can't really do anything in Hell, including meditation.
The only real method would be to rewrite Hell somehow into a format where demons are forced to participate in activities.

F
How is this possible if the stars don't affect hell? Runes?

Birdsie
Neither of those methods would work, no.

F
And what kind of activity is best suited for creating gnosis. Spiritual, physical, mental, or a combined type of activity.
And does the development of gnosis depend on the level of intelligence? For example, if we summon several monkey demons and force them to engage in gnosis-bringing activities, it will be equivalent to a more intelligent demon.

Birdsie
If only you knew that or possessed hints of what it might be.
Geist would suggest the only development that really matters is spiritual.

F
Is it possible to steal greatness and how effective and deadly will the theft be?

Birdsie
Not at your level.

F
The level of greatness or the dark arts?

Birdsie
Both.

L
how much greatness and DA would we need?

Birdsie
A lot.

F
And what kind of zombies can be raised with the help of dark astrology and how intelligent are they? For example, is it possible to create zombie ants that collect ingredients for us?

Birdsie
Very stupid zombies with little physical ability. One step below memetic Stormtroopers in every respect.
If you want real quality, you'll go for Inferi instead.

F
Are they smart enough to collect what we need?

Birdsie
Theoretically.

F
Aren't infernal and zombies the same thing, how do they differ?

Birdsie
No. One is shit, the other isn't.

F
And how are infernals created?

Birdsie
Inferi*
Through Dark Magic

F
Is this magic available to us now? And if not, how do I open it?

Birdsie
Yes, in theory.

F
And what prevents the theory from being translated into practice?

Birdsie
The fact that you don't know even the most basic Necromancy, let alone the advanced stuff. You'd have to train and learn, first.
You'd do it rapidly, of course.
Given your Master status.
Another issue, however, is that Harry is unwilling to raise corpses as slaves.
It's disgusting.

F
Even animals or insects?

Birdsie
How would those be useful?

F
These are self-propelled runes, they are collectors of ingredients, they are beacons for magic.

Birdsie
Insects are too small to scribe any useful runes on them.

F
Harry clearly wasn't looking at Naruto. Then he would have realized that a thousand bomb bugs could be dangerous.

Birdsie
Beacons for magic is ???
F
Dozens of ants can drag a scroll or rune to the right place. Including a beacon for his other runes.

Birdsie
And collectors of ingredients - sure. A handful of leaves gathered and brought to you over the period of a day.

F
This is a passive income that does not require any effort from Harry after the launch. And unlike zombie people, insects will not attract attention.

Birdsie
But at that point, it'd be more ergonomic to necromance a dead human or something.
They will get eaten up pretty fast by scavenger birds. Also necromantic spells tend to decay.
I'm not saying that small insectoid servants aren't useful; what I am saying is they aren't particularly useful, particularly for the things you ascribe they could do for you.

F
We'll make the rats catch bugs and drag them to us. And then massively resurrect them. In addition, they can be changed using the stealth rune.
We are not limited to insects, all small animals in the forest can become zombies. And if we practice, they will not become zombies, but Inferi.

Birdsie
You're still very greatly overestimating them.
There's a reason Dark wizards preferred humanoid zombies.

F
If we combine alchemy with runes and dark substances, will we be able to make insect/animal zombies effective?
Create an alchemical vat modified with runes. There will be a potion in it, in which the bodies will lie. After that, they will become much better zombies.

Birdsie
Yes, but how does that help with the fact they are small, fragile, and weak?

F
They will be smarter than usual, and there will be thousands of them.

Birdsie
Any wizard that knows Incendio at intermediate level, or any other fire spells, can solo a near infinite army of such insects.
Also 50% smarter than an insect is still as smart as an insect. Without pheromones, they won't do much.

F
These are bugs that collect ingredients.

Birdsie
Okay but let me reiterate: why?
There are smarter and faster ways to automate

F
Is it possible to combine them into a collective mind?

Birdsie
Not... That I can think of. Not without Imperius Curse at stupidly high levels.

F
And if you replace their brains with runes, leaving the body of a zombie?

Birdsie
You'd need stupidly high skills in Runes to make them that small.
You can't just 'replace a brain with runes.'
Even for something as primitive as an insect, you'd need a stupidly high-level array of runes that takes hours to carve.
The precision, effort, study, and time that goes into every insect would be immense.

F
Is it above the level of Odin's legacy?

Birdsie
Odin would've never used runes so meekly.
He carved symbols into reality, and made reality bend to the symbols.

F
I mean the achievement that deprives us of the eye but makes us skilled in runes.

Birdsie
It's significantly below the Unoculaic Attainment.

N
Do we have any chance of convincing Sirius let us stay in a monestary abroad or something during our summer trip?

Birdsie
No.

N
Out of curiousity, does sirius have any hobbies?
What does he do during the summer?

Birdsie
Grades papers, trains his magic, and goes out shopping.

N
Trains his magic?

Birdsie
Yes, what's so weird about wanting to be good at magic?

O
You don't survive the DADA curse by collecting bottlecaps
______________________

Birdsie
lol Harry is the most hardworking student at school

F
What about Hermione?

Birdsie
Second best

F
But she studied better than us in several subjects.
potions, transfiguration, charms.

Birdsie
you're the best in Charms, tied for Transfiguration, tied for Potions, you're the best in Astronomy, second place in Herbology, tied in History of Magic, best in DADA
A month or two can't make up for an entire year of supremacy
Harry's almost neurologically impaired in a way
He's the only child at Hogwarts willing to sit in his room at midnight, repeating the same spell over and over on the same object without complaint until he gets it right

F
And how much would Harry and Hermione's progress increase if they studied together all year? For example, joint homework or helping each other in those classes in which they excel each other?

Birdsie
They already did that as much as possible

F
Do teachers find Harry's behavior disturbing? Or do they suspect that Harry is doping?

Birdsie
No. No.

F
Will they start suspecting something if we start using a strong brain potion moderately?

Birdsie
Yes.

F
How strong is our power over the territory captured by the dark astroglia? Will animals and plants obey our will in this territory? Is it possible, for example, to force a unicorn to give some of its blood or to force a tree to attack a passing person?

Birdsie
Yes, yes yes.

F
How many territories can we subdue? How noticeable is our influence in the occupied territory?

Birdsie
One.
Very.

F
Is it possible to expand the limit over time or break the connection with the earth to create a new attachment?

Birdsie
Yes.

F
How is this reflected and can we be tracked by this influence?

Birdsie
Corruption, probably.

F
For example, how will this affect the forbidden forest?

Birdsie
It'd make it more forbidden.

F
It doesn't seem that noticeable.

Birdsie
Sure.

F
And how will the teachers notice that Harry uses a strong brain potion if he drinks it in moderation?

Birdsie
Because there's Charms on Hogwarts that detect frequent use of Baruffio's Brain Elixir.
I won't tell you how they work.

F
Does Geist know about their existence or how to get around them?

Birdsie
Yes, no.

F
Would he be able to share with us how these charms work or is this knowledge protected by an oath?

Birdsie
He doesn't know how they work.

J
can they detect that he used it over the summer, if he stops a week before returning to hogwarts but used it regularly in the vacation period?

Birdsie
They can't.
But using Baruffio's Brain Elixir too often is a bad idea anyway.
It melts your brain into sludge.

F
The field is regularly used once a week for a month. How much time should pass for safe use with the same interval.
And how much would this potion help us in any complicated rituals or inventing something new?

O
You asked Birdsie about the elixir in thread a while back. Here's the exchange.
F: Will Harry's learning speed up if he takes Baruffio's Brain Elixir at intervals that are safe for the psyche, or will the effect be too insignificant?
B: At this point, Harry's level of dedication and hard work have reached such an exalted level that not much can help accelerate his progress, aside from supernatural means which alter his fundamental understanding of a subject to confer stupendous, natural talent (Thrice-Great), or, indeed, improved memorization - which this elixir does offer in fair amounts. As such, it would improve Harry's long-term progress by around 10% if taken at safe intervals, and by 20-30% if he chugged it at every opportunity.

For those who don't know what the ISH is, it's A Simple Transaction/Rihakuverse analogy. It's short for Infinite Singularity Husk.

A small Strength ISH advantage can be made up for with better base stats in say... an arm wrestling contest. No amount of lesser power can overcome a sufficiently large ISH gap though.

While there are exceptions, metafictional effects don't have to be ISH 4 for example, in a nutshell it's like this.

1-1.99- Mundane physics effects, infinite energy is 1.99 repeating.
2-2.99- Conceptual effects. An ISH 2 defense would probably need infinite mundane energy to breach.
3-3.99- High Interpretation Exalted style perfect effects
4-4.99- Metafictional effects/effects that work at the level of whatever determines reality in the story. NLF Bugs Bunny and NLF Saitama would probably be here, as might Featherine at 4.99 or something.
5-5.99- Being your own author with full self indulgent author powers
6-6.99- Hypothetical powers better than being your own author, like having the right smarter than you post singularity intelligence be your author.
7 - The scale goes further but beyond this point comprehension is literally impossible for baseline humans beyond bigger number is better.

For those who didn't read the Discord thing, normal magic generally operates around ISH 2 in this system.

Does anyone here have the slightest concept of what a post-death world might look like? Without proper planning this may end up like Miracle Day from Torchwood.

Proper planning it is then. There's an infinite cosmos waiting for immortals to colonize. We just have to get everyone working together.. Autocratic regime as the god emperor of magic it is for us.

People fly out of the earth and begin to fly into a rage / arrange obscenities / something else due to the fact that they flew too close to Mars, Venus or another planet / star.

Fghubyygvb's angle has been ruled out by birdsie remarks on Discord.

F: How do stars and planets act on those who work in Earth orbit for a long time? Do they experience any special influence of celestial bodies?
B: No.
F: Will the influence of stars and planets affect the crew during space travel? For example, if the ship approaches Mars, will they go mad with rage?
B: No.
F:
That is, outer space is absolutely neutral, but as soon as the influence of a star/planet falls into the zone of influence of another star/planet of the planet, this influence acquires properties.
Did I understand correctly?
B: Sure

[X] Head the Spirit's Advice

Giving away an ISH gain during our 1st year just to try to influence our very long term goals is a bad idea. People who are completely focused on immortality research will have plenty of time to get Harry to prioritize it in later decisions (and it will be way easier with increased greatness).

I don't think we're actually getting any ISH out of this.

Like, our greatness attribute goes from X to X+1, but the ISH rating of our greatness remains at 2.5ish.
